But long before Mueller's report was completed, Crowdstrike had ALREADY testified (2017) that there was no clear evidence that ANYONE had "stolen" DNC emails.

In fact, the timestamps on the DNC files indicate that the files had been created MUCH faster than could be achieved by internet transmission, and the fact that the timestamps were all even numbers also indicates a thumb drive, not a remote "hack" over the internet.

So not only is there no evidence that the files were "stolen" (hacked remotely) there is technical evidence that the files were physically accessed by someone plugging a thumb drive or two into a server-connected PC, and copying them.

NOTE that they didn't charge Flynn with talking to the Russian Ambassador, or allege that his conversations with the Ambassador were illegal or even improper. Why didn't they charge him along those lines?
Because they felt they couldn't make those charges stick.

Now, IMHO, if a transition team makes informal contacts with foreign powers before the inauguration, that's pretty much par for the course, especially if the outgoing administration is going to set a foreign policy course that could permanently damage the incoming administration's goals. I'm absolutley sure that the Biden* team (Jake Sullivan for example) talked with both Merkel and Boris Johnson before the inauguration.

I've read plenty of puffed-up resumes in my life, and that article sounds like a bad one.

What I see, JO, is an incoming Trump administation with a different policy towards Russia, specifically the idea that Trump thought he could slow down the alliance between Russia and China, or possibly split Russia from China so he could focus his attention on China as the greater strategic threat.

A policy that the Biden* administration is trying to follow at this very moment, BTW..

Maybe you can't see the forest for the trees, but all of the allegations about Trump "colluding" with Russia, and Russia "interfering" in the 2016 election are just that: allegations. Accusations without EVIDENS.

I think the thing that is hard to wrap your brain around is the idea that the security state of two nations (USA and Britain) and the M$M could pervert the truth so massively and so constantly that it boggles the mind.

But all you have to do is look at all of the OTHER lies that the M$M has told, about ... well, everything. Even the potential laboratory origin of Covid-19: It was a conspiracy theory. Until we were supposed to wipe our brain of the "conspiracy theory" theory and reprogram it with the "new conspiracy theory" that it WAS a lab-based virus...

You see how that goes?

How many times do you need to be lied to before you get the idea that you're dealing with sociopathic liars?

And before you tell me that "Trump lies" ... I never believed him to begin with, anyway. I voted for him for three reasons that were achievable in his purview as President. The rest was all chaff in the wind and campaign rhetoric as far as I was concerned. Just like most of what dem candidates say.

"Ex parte" means "without the presence of the other"

Basically, the DOJ filed to dismiss because Concorde had asked for the evidence against it ("discovery", a normal part of a trial) and the DOJ apparently suddenly decided that the evidence was "classified" and couldn't be shared with the defendant.

Yanno, I never recalled Trump or anyone saying that, and when I tried to web search for a quote that was EVER said, I came up with nothing.

So I would look for quotes along those lines, if I were you, if only to prove to myself that I wasn't mis-remembering it.

In any case, if Trump has said something like that I personally would have understood it to mean no contacts ABOUT THE ELECTION. Bc everyone knows that Trump made a lot of money with the Miss Universe contest in Russia in 2013 (as BTW did NBC https://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/trump-nbc-split-dollar47-million-on-

I think the thing that wigs you out is that Trump isn't paranoid about Russia, like you are, and he's pretty relaxed about dealing with them bc he doesn't see them as the primary threat against the USA.

And quite frankly, neither do I. I think China is eating our lunch. And AFAIK so does Biden* (or at least Sullivan) because he's doing his best to extract us from Ukraine, the ME etc to focus on China.

For example, first denial: They're talking to Manafort, Trump's campaign manager. They aren't asking Manafort about the price of corn in Iowa or Trump's past or ongoing business dealings with Russia, which Manafort would have no knowldge of. They're asking Manafort about what he should know: the Trump CAMPAIGN. Is the Trump CAMPAIGN coordinating with Russia, about the CAMPAIGN? In Trump THE CANDIDATE coordinating with Russia about his CAMPAIGN? They even use the word "campaign". How can it possibly be any clearer???

If you were say, watching an ad, and it said "we know somebody who knows somebody who knows somebody who might have some kind of product to sell kind of like a couch", how much credence would you give it? Hopefully you understand that silly that would be.

Now, if it were my job to track these things down, I might have a meeting with them just to make sure I was thoroughly writing it off. And that's what happened. And when they did have the meeting - what was discussed? Nothing about Hillary. Nothing about Trump's campaign.

And what did Mueller make of all this? Because he looked into it in far more detail, with far more authority, and far deeper searches, with far more legal background, than anybody - even Maddow or Hannity.

He concluded there was no 'there' there. There was some false advertising by some non-governmental Russians that Don Jr. casually checked out that resulted in ... nothing.

So when the political scientist Henry Farrell suggested that I look at his field’s literature on cults of personality, I followed his advice. He recommended one paper in particular, by the New Zealand-based researcher Xavier Márquez; I found it revelatory.

“The Mechanisms of Cult Production” compares the behavior of political elites across a wide range of dictatorial regimes, from Caligula’s Rome to the Kim family’s North Korea, and finds striking similarities. Despite vast differences in culture and material circumstances, elites in all such regimes engage in pretty much the same behavior, especially what the paper dubs “loyalty signaling” and “flattery inflation.”

Signaling is a concept originally drawn from economics; it says that people sometimes engage in costly, seemingly pointless behavior as a way to prove that they have attributes others value. For example, new hires at investment banks may work insanely long hours, not because the extra hours are actually productive, but to demonstrate their commitment to feeding the money machine.

In the context of dictatorial regimes, signaling typically involves making absurd claims on behalf of the Leader and his agenda, often including “nauseating displays of loyalty.” If the claims are obvious nonsense and destructive in their effects, if making those claims humiliates the person who makes them, these are features, not bugs. I mean, how does the Leader know if you’re truly loyal unless you’re willing to demonstrate your loyalty by inflicting harm both on others and on your own reputation?

And once this kind of signaling becomes the norm, those trying to prove their loyalty have to go to ever greater extremes to differentiate themselves from the pack. Hence “flattery inflation”: The Leader isn’t just brave and wise, he’s a perfect physical specimen, a brilliant health expert, a Nobel-level economic analyst, and more. The fact that he’s obviously none of these things only enhances the effectiveness of the flattery as a demonstration of loyalty.

Does all of this sound familiar? Of course it does, at least to anyone who has been tracking Fox News or the utterances of political figures like Lindsey Graham or Kevin McCarthy.

Many people, myself included, have declared for years that the G.O.P. is no longer a normal political party. It doesn’t look anything like, say, Dwight Eisenhower’s Republican Party or Germany’s Christian Democrats. But it bears a growing resemblance to the ruling parties of autocratic regimes.

The only unusual thing about the G.O.P.’s wholesale adoption of the Leader Principle is that the party doesn’t have a monopoly on power; in fact, it controls neither Congress nor the White House. Politicians suspected of insufficient loyalty to Donald Trump and Trumpism in general aren’t sent to the gulag. At most, they stand to lose intraparty offices and, possibly, future primaries. Yet such is the timidity of Republican politicians that these mild threats are apparently enough to make many of them behave like Caligula’s courtiers.

Unfortunately, all this loyalty signaling is putting the whole nation at risk. In fact, it will almost surely kill large numbers of Americans in the next few months.

The stalling of America’s initially successful vaccination drive isn’t entirely driven by partisanship — some people, especially members of minority groups, are failing to get vaccinated for reasons having little to do with current politics.

But politics is nonetheless clearly a key factor: Republican politicians and Republican-oriented influencers have driven much of the opposition to Covid-19 vaccines, in some cases engaging in what amounts to outright sabotage. And there is a stunning negative correlation between Trump’s share of a county’s vote in 2020 and its current vaccination rate.

How did lifesaving vaccines become politicized? As Bloomberg’s Jonathan Bernstein suggests, today’s Republicans are always looking for ways to show that they’re more committed to the cause than their colleagues are — and given how far down the rabbit hole the party has already gone, the only way to do that is “nonsense and nihilism,” advocating crazy and destructive policies, like opposing vaccines.

That is, hostility to vaccines has become a form of loyalty signaling.

None of this should be taken to imply that Republicans are the root of all evil or that their opponents are saints; Democrats are by no means immune to the power of special interests or the lure of the revolving door.

But the G.O.P. has become something different, with, as far as I know, no precedent in American history although with many precedents abroad. Republicans have created for themselves a political realm in which costly demonstrations of loyalty transcend considerations of good policy or even basic logic. And all of us may pay the price.
