How's the weather by you Brenda?

Got a few more cold ones here and then we're in the 30's and even the 40's for the next two weeks... or so we're told.

I think we might be coming to the end of your last winter in that shabby situation :)

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Weather's been dry around here for the last couple of days and sunny. Weather site I checked a bit ago said it's suppose to hit 6C tomorrow which is around 46F. That will be nice.

I hope it is that last of winter. February and March you never know up here. Have to see.

Idiot landlady unplugged something for a second when I was replying to you and I had to do a reboot.

Finally stopped snowing here after 8 straight days of snow. Might get warm enough to melt a bit of it the next two days. Almost 50 on Monday though, so if it hasn't melted by then we should be in luck.

Be safe. It should be almost over..... hopefully.

It's not suppose to stay here and we didn't get much. Just means that I have to be really careful walking around here. My cane is handy as are my boots. Heading out in a bit to my chiropractor's appointment.

The snow is pretty well all gone today and it is looking like rain. So if that happens should take care of the rest of it.

So *fingers crossed*

I had my umbrella with me today when I went out to run some errands to be on the safe side but I didn't have to use it.

Glad it's warming up for you up there Brenda. :)

We're getting hit with a mighty fine warm spell here too. It will be almost 60 on Monday and Tuesday, and every day in the 2 week forecast is looking to be over 40 degrees save two of them. That brings us into March. Yay!

Man... if we get a reasonable March this year than everything kind of balances out and winter was just ass backward in 2018. Fingers crossed!

We're getting torrential rain here now. Almost all 20" of snow from the last few weeks is gone now. At least my sump pump seems to be working. *fingers crossed*

60's for the next two days, then a dip down in the 30's for 2 days, then every day the next two weeks on weather.com shows a high in the 40's. Awesome way to finish up February!

Rain, for us, is always eight days away. I can't tell you the number of times this winter ("rainy season") that I've seen rain in the long-term forecast, only to have it evaporate five days out. Ridiculously Resilient Ridge Redux - Rewind! here we come.

Well, ONE piece of good news, at least! I don't know if I mentioned it, but we've been hiring a homeless guy for yard cleanup and gardening ... somebody we knew knew somebody else who knew this guy ... pay him $20/hr for 5 hours work, plus a home-cooked lunch and supplies to take "home". He's been biking 15 miles one way to get here, and bikes 15 miles back each week.

Older guy, 50's; guy has his head screwed on straight, not a drug addict or alcoholic, just made some bad decisions and lost his economic footing in 2008 and never really regained it. LA County FINALLY made homelessness a priority, put 1/4% sales tax to fund programs, and this guy FINALLY got into assisted housing. YAY! At least he has a place to shower, stay warm, and cook meals. And considering how cold it's been here, that's a wonderful thing! They said they're going to fix his teeth and get him regular medical care. We stay in touch by text; I hope to see him again this weekend or next. I have my fingers crossed that things work out well for him; he deserves it. And of course, he continues to work for us, if he so chooses. Or until he finds something better.

Ya'all can have the rain we've been getting.

Fortunately my sump held out and I didn't have any power issues, but my brother's basement flooded. It was a real freak of nature occurance. His home is over 30 years old and there was never a well or sump installed. He's not in a flood zone. We just got an insane amount of rain in two days on top of the 20 inches of snow that melted. A lot of stuff he had in the crawl was destroyed.

I'm going over there tomorrow to help them try to clean up the mess.

He's taking a positive attitude about it at least. I'm kind of worried they're both turning into hoarders and he's looking at this as an opportunity to let a lot of stuff go that he's wanted to get rid of for years.

I haven't seen my niece since Christmas, so I was really looking forward to that, but their washing machine busted and she's doing about 9 loads of clothes at her mom's and she took my nice with her. :(

Yeah... Yesterday they both left so he could get some work done and that's when he did it all. They would have been home today if it wasn't for the washing machine busting and her having to go to her mom's to do all that laundry. I'm going with my old man down to see my other brother for a few days next weekend, so hopefully we can all get together the following week now that I have some more days off.

Sorry to hear about the snow by you. I think we might be pretty much done here. The forecast for the next two weeks by me shows highs from the 40's to the 60's so any snowing we get should only be incidental and melt really quickly. Winter's almost over :)

I'm glad that the snow is melting ... again.

I've been checking out the weather because it's been in the news. This is for Jack "Record Atmospheric Moisture Feeding Central U.S. Flooding - The most significant flooding thus far has been in Southwest Michigan, Northwest Indiana, and Northeast Illinois, where the heavy rains fell on a snowpack that completely melted, releasing meltwater equivalent to another ½" – 1” of rain".

Meanwhile, here it's been dry, dry, dry as a bone.

Hi Kiki,

Yes, I did. With a new story in the works I have to go back to an older one to check on something. It's a good thing that I have a habit of doing things long hand.

So am I. Maybe this week I can get some stuff done without worrying about falling but we shall see. Suppose to be dry here tomorrow.

Well... NW Indiana here and NE Illinois, most of the rest of my family. :(

My backyard was a marsh for about 2 days, but since my power didn't go out and my sump still works I was fine. Just got a few gallons of loose water on what would be the living area if my basement was finished. I don't think it would have gotten in there if I had installed my gutters already. It's on my spring to-do list. :)

That was really messed up for my bro though. The house was designed without a well or a pump because it's not low at all. The house has been up over 30 years and that's never happened before (so he says). I told him that if he wants to I'll help him dig a well and we'll put a pump in there with a long hose that he can pull out and put out of one of the windows in case this ever happens again. He's not set up at all for a proper sump system, but at least if he's home or somebody has the keys if they're on a vacation when this happens next time somebody can go down and get the pump going.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

I know it's very hard for formerly homeless to adapt back to home-based life. Apparently, the house has something of a "den mother" who cooks b'fast and dinner. Man... that's nice to hear. I hope he does well too Sigs. :)

I was just listening to a podcast with Joe Rogan and the Amazing Atheist yesterday and one of the tangents they got off on was that anybody in this country that is working a minimum wage job should be able to afford a place to live and food on the table with that money. When you're giving 30 to 40 hours of every week to somebody, that should come with at least 3 hots and a cot.

I agree with that 100%

In this new economy we live in, more of the good jobs are going to keep disappearing and all that will be left are the service type jobs that pay next to nothing unless you went to college and were smart enough to get a meaningful degree in something that won't disappear soon, or you're lucky enough to have a daddy that's in one of the Unions.

I'm still hoping that the Universal Income becomes a thing.

Went to a local casino on Friday. Took $100 with me and had a real good morning. Walked out with $334 in my pocket.

That's amazing good fortune! I have never ... and I mean NEVER ... won at anything. I used to tell my workplace lotto pool that they should pay me to stay OUT of the pool so I don't contaminate them with my bad luck. But they never did.

I played at the casino twice. I lost $40 bucks in about 3 minutes on slots and never played them again. I won about $175 at Blackjack and decided I would never gamble again because the rush is too good. That was maybe 15 years ago.

If I never gamble again at a casino, I'm one of the few people who can honestly say that I've beat the house over the long run.

It was. I won over $200 on 1 slot machine. Because of my seizure disorder I can only handle being in a casino for about 2hours after that it becomes too much. I go to one maybe twice a year. It's just for fun. I have never walked out with that much money from a casino. Usually I break even or loose about $40.

Yes and it suppose to rain some later this week but that's okay as what is left of the snow will be all gone.

My mom and I started going when one opened up in my city over 30years ago. We only went a couple of times a year.

I do the same thing now. I go twice a year but like I told Sig. The clanging and the noise gets too me after a couple of hours because of my seizure disorder. That's why I limit myself.

I go for fun and limit myself to $100 and that's what I play with. Usually I loose a little and sometimes I win a little and there are times I break even. This time was just wow!

That's cool. I'm not saying that people shouldn't gamble and you're totally being smart about it and only gambling with money you can afford to lose. We all have to have our fun.

I've got a little history with addiction though, and my reaction to "winning" was very similar to my one experience on a prescription opioid that somebody had given me after I was injured pretty badly once, which was "This feels WAY too good and I'm never doing it again".

Congrats on your win. :)
