Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Now the house is full of Pholcidae ... those small, slender, long-legged spiders. I know: sounds really disgusting unless you find buggy creatures interesting. The Pholcidae efficiently control flies, mosquitoes, anything that flies in here ... and they usually control other spiders. One time, I did find a black widow in the cupboard, had to remove her myself. One friend referred to them as my pets; & I sometimes treat them that way. Needless to say, when I have guests, they prefer to visit on the patio. ... oooOO}{OOooo ...

Quote:Homemade Ant Killer With Boric Acid ... Types of Ants Boric acid ant killers aren't effective against all species of ant. They work best against ants that are a nuisance in your home, such as the Argentine ant, the Pharoah ant and the odorous house ant. These ants are small and usually black or reddish-black, often called sugar ants. Other ants that normally stay outdoors, such as harvester ants or fire ants, aren't as receptive to boric acid ant baits. What to Mix Some ants have a sweet tooth while others are more likely to seek out fats and grease. Mix your boric acid with a couple of different foods to find out which one draws the most ants before you settle on your recipe. You can dissolve sugar in water, use jelly or honey, or use peanut butter or regular butter. Mixing 1 teaspoon of boric acid with 1 cup of the food makes a 2 percent solution. If you're using sugar water, add about 8 teaspoons to 1 cup of water, then add 1 teaspoon of boric acid. If the ants aren't attracted to your baits as well as you'd like, reduce the boric acid to 1/2 teaspoon per 1 cup for a 1 percent solution. Clearly label any leftover bait you store ...

I can't do much on it when they've got me on 5 days though. That's not something they're regularly going to do though since there are limits to how many hours they can work a part timer on average in any 12 week stretch. I'm okay with working as many as they'll give me at the moment though. Do Right, Be Right. :) I hope your project works out. One of these days I will get back to trying to find a publisher for my book. I just get lazy and when I get hit with a round of depression I just plain don't want to do anything because I don't care.

Quote:Originally posted by Brenda: Thanks. I've been fortunate enough not to get sucked into alcohol for many reasons or smoking of anything either. The depression made itself known after my mom died. Tried to deal with it then but it didn't work. Had to deal with it after my guy died as I found I wasn't thinking straight. So about 3years worth of counselling and now I can handle it. It comes and goes. Holidays are bad or when I hear that someone's had a baby. That's still a bitter pill for me because I was not fortunate enough to have had kids. I have several sites plugged into my favourites on publishers in Canada and agents. I was straightening out my list for them a while ago and I will go back to it.

Quote:Oh yeah. My mom, my dad and my guy and my friends know that a bored Brenda is not a good thing. *L* That's why a friend's mom got me a membership in my local seniors centre when I turned 50. She figured that I could find something to do there. And it has helped along with a small part time job. I'm reading again and I do write a little bit again. So I am not in too bad of shape.
Quote:I know. My 1 day a week got screwed up with Christmas and so I will be working this Thursday afternoon. But that is good and I have other errands to run which will be easier now that the ruttin' snow is gone.
Quote:I always hoped that I would have 1 or 2 kids but my life didn't go that way. First the brain surgery and getting back on my feet after that then my mom had surgery and you look at the clock and think there's still time. Well by the time was right, I was too old for a host of reason. Over 50year old me would love the help I could maybe get from having more family around me. My folks were both older than everyone else's, so my dad went when I was 13 and my mom was cancer and I looked after her through it all. My Blair it was just one of those things. I am. Always working on things.
Quote:Glad you got tonight off. Don't know what I will do with myself this evening. Find something to watch on YouTube that is not quite right for New Years. *L*

Quote:Originally posted by Brenda: I know pot is not addictive but asthma runs in my family, so I stay away from smoking period. I'm fortunate to not have an addictive personality so the fact that I do have to take seizure medication while not something I like, I have no major problems with. But with that medication I stick to the none narcotic drugs. I know when my body has reached its tolerance level for caffeine and I cut down on it for a week or so until it clears out of my body then I go back to it.
Quote:I hear ya Jack. I've never been big on people even when I was a kid, teenager and young adult. I had and have a small group of friends that I talk to on Facebook and see in RL. We have lunch and coffee and talk. But that's about it for now. People I see at the senior's centre are okay for a couple of hours but then I reach my limit and that's okay by me.
Quote:It won't be that warm. But the sun will be out and walking will be alright. My landlady has heat upstairs but I am cold where I am. My hands are starting to hurt because of it.
Quote:Oh, I thought I would get married to or at least have the father of the kids with me.
Quote:Well, since I can't get cable being in an illegal suite. I make do. I can find a few things that I like on YouTube, so that is what I do.

Quote:I like talking on the phone. I should be talking to a cousin of mine. Last time she wrote me a letter, she chewed me out. *L* Yeah, I miss an aunt of mine like that. My dad's oldest sister. She died of cancer over 10years ago.
Quote:Think I've been pretty explicit that I don't live in the US. I live in British Columbia which is in Canada. I've tried all the legal ways to do something about her this year over the summer. Just had no luck with it.
Quote:Right now I don't know where I am. I miss my guy still but am open to a new relationship if it happens. Kids aren't there unless I become a step-mother and marriage...I don't know. Blair, I would have done the whole thing for him but now I am back to what I felt like for years that I don't need a piece of paper.
