Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

FWIW I also prefer a painted look, as long as the paint stays hard and doesn't get tacky with weather and/ or time. (But that's true of any wood finish. Literally tacky finishes are a real pain to deal with day to day.) There's just not too many woods where I like the figure-and-grain, or color, or both ... except on floors. IDK why, it's just a preference. I'll say that the one exception was the wardrobe I saw in an antique store, where the wood was essentially neutral brown (no red, green, or yellow undertones) light through dark-medium tones of maple syrup, and the grain was more like a subtle set of highlights that glinted differently depending on how the light shone on it, a bit like a 'tiger eye' gemstone.
Quote:As a piece I thought it was beautiful. But I wouldn't want a whole wall of it! I also did see the grain come through a bit. That's of interest to me because at some point I hope to (carefully) remove some of the drywall and replace it with borate-treated (anti-insect) interior plywood as internal shear panels with one A-face to the inside. If it can be painted to look nice, I won't have to reinstall the drywall there. Good luck on the bleed-through! I had significant bleed-through on my home's exterior since the wood siding is either cedar or redwood, with lots of natural tannins that came through. And Signy had curry-bleed through when she cleaned and painted the apartment! So we both know what a chore bleed-through can be!

A day later (bc I forgot I had to fill out a customs form) I sent our friend in Toronto HIS box. Well, Xmas comes and Xmas goes and neither has received their package. Sis got hers towards the end of the first week in January, and friend got his about mid-January. He was so concerned I emailed him the tracking number which showed it left the LA postal terminal Dec 14, but what happened after that.... ? ----------- Pity would be no more, If we did not MAKE men poor - William Blake THUGR posts about Putin so much, he must be in love.

Quote:Originally posted by SIGNYM: Speaking mail... BRENDA and KIKI, see if you can get "Signed, Sealed, and Delivered" originally a Hallmark series. It's very sweet, a nice watch. In like it because the characters are decent people, and unlike most American TV series there's very little crime and vengeance. I contrast that with "Tin Star" which we started watching, but nearly every character in it is corrupt, stupid, or psychopathic, and it turned into such a murder- fest I just couldn't stomach it anymore. ----------- Pity would be no more, If we did not MAKE men poor - William Blake THUGR posts about Putin so much, he must be in love.

Quote:Originally posted by Brenda: JACK! There was a light dusting of snow last night around my local library but then it turned into rain and that got washed away. Little snow and more rain this morning before I went out for my walk. The rain has dried up now and so we see if there is more rain tonight.

Primer today is generally safe, but it's not as if I've been going outside all that much, and I've got something drying 24/7 in the house when I'm not right up on it painting it. Just feeling a bit run down at the moment. Haven't been sleeping well recently. Hopefully I get a good sleep tonight and don't wake up at the ass crack of dawn like I seem to no matter what time I finally drift off. -------------------------------------------------- A government is a body of people usually, notably, governed by Mark Zuckerborg and Slack Dorsey.

Quote:Just for the sake of completeness, I feel compelled to mention carbon monoxide. Is your house especially well-sealed? Have you been using your heater a lot? Anyway, the symptoms are headache, nausea, aches and pains and fatigue, just like a flu.

The best overall description that I got was that the firehose was originally aimed at norcal, but then it swung south so quickly that SFO central cal didn't get much rain, got as far south as San Luis Obispo where it stalled for a couple of days, leading to as much as 12" of rain and 7' of snow in the Sierras, b4 swinging north again. Still predicted to head back south, I'm predicted to get almost 2" rain starting this evening and thru Friday, you're predicted to get about 2.5" last I checked. Better boogie off to do grocery shopping before it rains. Ta ta! ----------- Pity would be no more, If we did not MAKE men poor - William Blake THUGR posts about Putin so much, he must be in love.

Or at put a pan of water on the stove, set on low. Or drape a wet towel underneath/ in front of your heater registers. Those should humidify the air enough to suppress the static, I hope! ----------- Pity would be no more, If we did not MAKE men poor - William Blake THUGR posts about Putin so much, he must be in love.

Also helped hubby glue up more of the bedframe. Since rain is preventing me from much-needed yardwork, I suppose I should turn my attention indoors. Just trying to get up the steam to do it.
