Can you imagine the hue and cry that would rise up if Romney announced a "White People for Romney" campaign? But here's BO proudly unveiling "African Americans for Obama."

KPO

Sometimes you own the libs. Sometimes, the libs own you.

A better equivalent imo would be 'Gays for Romney' or 'Latinos for Romney' or even, 'Mormons for Romney'. I can imagine that.

Minorities often have their own specific interests - or are on the sharp end of gov. policies the way white people aren't - so they flock to a candidate/party they perceive will look after their interests.

Pres. looks tired in that vid.

It's not personal. It's just war.

I think Romney is doing just fine with the groups supporting him. And you're not far off, either:

As to Gays for Romney: "Log Cabin Republicans is the only Republican organization dedicated to representing the interests of gay and lesbian Americans and their allies." -- They support Romney, not Obama:
Quote:

To defend their claim to a smidgen of space in the GOP's ideological pup tent, the Log Cabin Republicans — a gay and lesbian group — are attacking Barack Obama for doing what Mitt Romney won't: say he supports same-sex marriage.

Under other circumstances, the president's statement might have moved the group to respond with high praise. Gay marriage, is after all, a top Log Cabin goal. But in this political silly season, rational behavior is the first casualty.

And yes, there is a specific group called "Latinos for Romney"-- http://www.latinosforromney.com/

And of course there are Mormons for Romney, tho' no specific group that I can find. On that subject:
Quote:

During the presidential campaign of Barack Obama, African-Americans were criticized for blindly following Obama because of race. Similar charges are not being leveled against Mormon voters for Romney.

Humans are social animals and we all have reasons for hewing to identity and affinity groups, as well as calculations about whether and how supporting a particular candidate will affect us and our communities.

There is no question that anti-Mormon bias is going to be a factor among some Republican voters when it comes to Romney. But I’m also interested in whether and how the close hewing of Mormon voters to Romney as a candidate will be explored with the same persistence than the black vote for Obama did.

So while I know you were joking, in this weird world, none of them are actually jokes.

He's also got plenty of support from the usual suspects:
Quote:

The top five donor groups in Romney’s campaign are individuals and political action committees associated with large financial institutions, led by Wall Street giants Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase, according to information compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan research group that tracks campaign donations.

By contrast, Obama’s top five contributor groups include individuals and PACs affiliated with high technology giants Google Inc. and Microsoft Corp., and the global law firms DLA Piper and Sidley Austin, and do not include those associated with banks. http://bostonglobe.com/metro/2012/05/15/donors-with-big-bank-ties-favo
r-romney-desert-obama/4Db5GaQpmzDLigc4rCEVML/story.html
already know who supports whom, of course, but it is in black and white, just FYI.

With regard to the paragraph about "Humans are social animals", that makes perfect sense, and given there are the two OFFICIAL groups mentioned above, why would it be any more strange for Obama to have an african-american group supporting HIM? Unless you're a hard-core righty who's determined to find something, ANYTHING, to complain about Obama.

Gays for Romney. Curiouser and curiouser...

They call it a "tea party".

Good one, Mike. Given the makeup of the Tea Party, that's very apt.

I might also say that any group called "Americans for Romney" would be the equivalent of "White People for Romney", given that minorities are often not considered "Americans" by whites.

But the Tea Partyis closer to the mark, admittedly.
