Chapter 3 -- Revelations

The baby hadn't stopped crying on Serenity. Inara was doing her best to quiet her, but Zoe through a mother's instinct new exactly what was making the baby so grumpy.

"She's hungry," Zoe said taking off her gun and then her armor. She unbuttoned her vest and then her shirt. Inara watched amazed as Zoe took the baby and began nursing her. The little girl latched on and began to suck and nature did the rest.

"I thought you didn't breast feed anymore," Inara said, touching the babies fuzzy blond hair.

"I switched to bottles when Walker began teething," she said. "I still pump though."

"Gaah!" Mal walked in and got and eye full of Zoe's breast as she switched sides the baby happily latched on to the other breast, she looked up into Zoe's eyes and Zoe smiled touching her face.

"Mama?" Walk said and touched the baby head gently. She was surprised her bossy son's gentleness towards the new baby.

Jayne walked in and grinned at the sight of Zoe feeding the baby, "Well at least the new one ain't gonna starve."

"Yeah, um, Zoe, when you're ready, we've located the Tam's," he said averting his eyes. The baby released Zoe's breast with a pop and Zoe handed the baby over to Inara.

"Make sure you burp her," she said straightening up her clothes and refitting her armor. She bent down to her son. "Be good for your Auntie," she kissed him. "I'm ready, sir," she said to Mal.

River had been sleeping when the doors of her cell slid open. Dr. Derring flanked by three heavily armed guards entered her room.

"Where's Simon?" she yelled. "What did you do to him?"

"Simon's fine, my dear, " Derring said and she sighed. It still didn't explain why she couldn't she feel him, but she could read inside the doctors mind that he was still alive.

"I want to see him," she demanded.

"Soon, child," he touched her face and her flesh crawled underneath his hands.

"Why are we here?"

"We've come to realization that you and your brother have the most extraordinary DNA," he said. "Chimeric, your DNA is like a puzzle that always changes. One side effect of these changes is that your brother's blood has the ability to cure a multitude of diseases. One of them being the very resistant strain of the Reaver virus. And you, your blood, your DNA, it awakens the mind. Yes, you two are very special," he said, tying a tourniquet around her arm.

"What are you doing?" she asked and he grinned.

"Just a blood sample, to see if it matches your brother's. Then I will take samples of your ovum," he said sticking her with the needle.

"Why would you need my ovum?" she asked.

"Well the thought is, since you two are chimera, that if you two would procreate, we would have a greater specimen."

"That's sick! He's my brother! Our genetic code is too similar," River yelled.

"Not anymore," Derring smirked leaving her with that bit of news.

God, Simon what did they do to you?, she thought.

"I want you all to be clear about what we're planning to do," Mal said as they took the shuttle to the point where Simon's tracker was blinking.

"We realize, Sir," Zoe said. She could tell that he was nervous, hell, she was nervous. They were blind to what they were walking into. They had no idea how big the place was, or how many soldiers there was. They had to bring Kaylee along just in case they needed some doors sealed and Jayne brought his grenades just in case they needed doors unsealed.

Zoe went to Jayne and placed her hand on his shoulder, "You okay?"

"I just want her back, she expecting Zoe," he said and sighed heavily.

"I know," she nodded and squeezed his shoulder. "We're going to get her back."

Zoe sat down next to him and Jayne turned and looked at her, "If I don't make it, you take care of them for me, dong ma?"

"Don't even talk like that Jayne."

"You are the closest thing I got to family on this boat, I want you to swear, Zoe," he said in an earnest whisper and Zoe sighed.

"If something happens to you Jayne you know I'll look after your family, just as I expect you to do the same, I swear," she said and Jayne nodded satisfied.

Saffron lied petrified with fear and physically hurt. It wasn't long into the sexin' that he realized that something was off. That the sex was too painful for her to fake pleasure from. That her belly was too soft. Too empty feeling. Half way into the rape, The Operative pulled away from her and slapped so hard she fell off the back of the couch.

"Where is it?" he yelled and she cried reeling from the throbbing burning pain in between her legs. "It was stillborn," she lied and he kicked her in the stomach knocking the wind out of her.

"You left it with the space trash, didn't you? You stupid whore! Don't you realize how important it is for The Alliance?" he yelled.

"How important she is! You sick shiong muh duh duang ren hwoon dahn*!" she cried and he grabbed her by the neck and squeezed.

"Good-bye Reba, say so long to your waste of a life," he said as he choke the life out of her.

It's okay, was the last thing she thought as the world went black.

Simon's body was on fire. He felt an anger, a rage he never felt before. He wanted to hurt something. someone. He wanted to kill, to rip something anything apart with his bare hands, his teeth. It didn't take him long to realize what the doctor injected him with. It was the Reaver virus, but for some reason though Simon wanted to hurt and maim and kill, he could control it. He wasn't in the least bit crazy insane like the others.

"You must be wondering what's going on inside of you, all that rage and anger," Derring said from the shadows Simon pulled at the restraints growling. "It will pass, you body is fighting of the foreign virus as we speak and soon it will create antibodies. Oh yes, I'm sorry about the machines, we had to pump enough of your special blood out of your body so the virus would have a chance to maturate in you veins."

Simon growled again screaming, screaming with an anger and rage that felt so good to release. He screamed and screamed until his voice was gone and then he collapsed.

"Good man," Derring said. "Now make me my antibodies."
