Chapter 4-- I'll Tell You No Lies

Inara fixed a tray of food for Saffron, completely with strawberry shortcake. She picked up the tray and walk to the kitchen door. Zoe rose an eyebrow as Inara headed towards Saffron's bunk.

"Is that a good idea?" Mal said to Zoe.

"I'm not sure,Sir," they gave each other a wary look.

Inara went into Saffron's bunk with the food quietly. When she saw Saffron wasn't in her bed, Inara looked around the room and found Saffron sitting on the floor in the corner facing the wall. She was whispering something to herself and she had obviously been crying. Inara's heartbroke for her, she was obviously a damaged individual, but she steeled herself against comforting her. Giving Saffron any kind of outward sympathy was a mistake.

"I brought you food," Inara placed the tray on her bed.

"Thank you," Saffron said and didn't move, she just remained in the corner.

"Mal told me you came out of your bunk today," Inara said and Saffron nodded.

"I was hungry, I had melon and apples," she said.

"I'm sorry for that, Zoe and I was preparing something for Jayne and River, we forgot you were down here," Inara apologized, she should have taken better care of Saffron even though she didn't like or trust her, she didn't want her risking her baby by climbing up and down the stairs because she was hungry in the afternoon.

"It's okay," Saffron said, distantly.

Inara left Saffron disturbed by her behavior, she came back into the common area concern written all of her face. Mal picked up on it first.

"What's the matter, bao bei?" He asked as he helped her clear the table.

"She's so manipulative, and she's such a," Inara growled hating that she cared. "There's something going on with her, something dark," she said and mal nodded.

"It's my fault,she was apologizing to me, talking about her time in prison and the lessons she learned. I asked her about the scars on her wrist," Mal said.

"I found her on the floor in the corner just looking at the wall," Inara closed her eyes.

"Should I apologize?" Mal asked and she put her hand on his arm.

"She's not that way because of you," Inara assured him.

"It could all just be a con to keep her here after the baby's born," Mal said and Inara shook her head.

"I know a little about acting Mal, she was as serious as a heart attack, trust me," Inara said.

After Inara nad Mal cleaned up the kitchen and everything was quiet on Serenity, Mal went to get the tray in Saffron's room. Saffron was still in the corner. He sat down on the bed.

"Do you want to talk about it?" he asked and she shook her head. He sat there with her until finally she spoke.

"I was in prison serving a five year sentence. I knew I'd be better off just serving my five year sentence and going on with my life, but it was five years! I couldn't bare to be locked up for that long. So I began looking at the guards, seeing who was stupid enough to become my next mark. There was one in particular, Josh. We flirted, constantly, he was young, not a day over nineteen, might as well had sucker stamped on his forehead. I told him that if he just got me out, we would run away together and I'd be his wife. It took him three months to come up with the perfect plan and during those three months I kept him enticed by... well you know," She touched her belly and Mal raised his eyebrows catching her drift. "He snuck me out by disguising me as a new guard, he got me the right identification and everything. He snuck me out and I was scott free, we broke atmo the next day."

"I fell in love with him, Mal. I should have left him on the nearest planet, but I loved him so much," she wept.

"What happened to him Saffron?" Mal asked.

"We were in Deadwood, I didn't want to go because I knew one of my marks lived there.."

"One of your ex husbands?"

"Yes, Sheriff Bullock, God when he saw me he looked at me with such hatred, he tried to take lock me up again, but Josh...he was so brave," she sniffed. "He fought for me, and got himself shot in the process. We managed to get on our shuttle and break atmo, but he was in bad shape. Mal, the only man I ever loved in the verse, was bleeding to death. For the first time in my life, I didn't care about my own freedom, I just wanted him safe. I landed us on Athens, trying to find a doctor for him, all I found was Boris, the slave driver." She turned back to the wall. "He let him die in the street, he didn't even bury him, he just let him rot where he fell, the rats picking at him like he wasn't a person."

"Saffron," Mal shook his head.

"That's why," she raised her wrists. "I thought I'd be better off if I was with him."

"But you were pregnant." Mal surmised.

" I didn't know until after, when I woke up in the clinic. This baby survived the stupidest thing I had ever done in my life, I knew then that it deserved a chance, even though it'd be born without knowing decent parent and without it's father," She sighed. " Ye Soo, I'm alone Mal."

"You have that baby. You're not alone."

"This baby deserves better," She wiped her tears.

"This baby is the only person in the world who'll love you as much as it's father did. Unconditionally, no matter how you screw up."

"This baby can't be like me, Mal."

Later on Mal stood awake with Inara sleeping softly in his arms deciding whether to truly believe her story or not. For the first time ever Mal actually saw Saffron for exactly who she was, no go se, no lies, just a flawed woman in trouble. The woman he saw in that bunk wasn't a women who'd survive long out in the verse, and maybe that was exactly what she wanted him to think.

It was a tricky situation, one to be pondered. Inara's hand slid up his thigh and he looked at her with one eyebrow raised. She smiled innocently and then kissed him softly as one of her soft delicate hands snaked around his man parts. Mal grinned with and eyebrow raised. He'll leave the pondering over Saffron for later.

Jayne laid sweaty, spent, and breathing heavy amongst the red and gold sheets of his and River's bed. River kissed her way up his chest, her long damp tendrils of hair sticking to her face and arms. When her hand wrapped around Jayne's member and squeezed Jayne pulled her hand away and then laughed.

"Ain't nothing left, girl, give an old man some rest," he grinned. River whispered on his lips.

"I want all of you tonight," she kissed him and he laughed.

"You wanna give me a heartattack, that's what you want. Three times in a row already, " he sighed and she laid down next to him. "You've gotta be sore." he touched her body running his hand from shoulder to hip to ass.

"Not sore enough," River said breathlessly disappointed that she was ready again, but he was not. She slid besides him. "You made me want it this bad, so you can't complain. Not when you make us fit together so perfectly that I don't want to be apart from you," she kissed his shoulder and Jayne pounced on her.

"You know how much I love it when you talk like that. Like you belong to me," He growled and she laughed as he took her small breast in his mouth.

"I do belong to you, I was made for you," she whispered. Jayne kissed down her abdomen.

~ Inara rode Mal, her hips rotating so it felt as if he wasn't just going in and out of her, but all around her in a circle as well. Her body swirling up his shaft and then down again was going to make this copulation quick and to the point.

"Ai ya, bao bei, you're killing me," Mal gasped his hands slid up her body to her breast. He pinched her nipples and she dug her fingernail into his shoulders. "You are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen," He whispered in her ear. Inara had heard that many times be none of them touched her heart more. "I love you, Nara"

"I love you so much, Mal," She said and Mal turned them over. ~

"Yes, Yes, like that, I'm coming, I'm coming! Jayne!" River said as Jayne brought her over the edge with his mouth and fingers. He slid up her body and kissed her hard. His tongue delving into her mouth, she tasted herself on his tongue. He thrust rough and hard into her. Something that before, when they first started making love, he'd never do in fear of hurting her. Over the course of their year together, he realized that he continued to underestimate exactly how much River could actual take.

"Harder," She cried out and wrapped her legs further around his hips. He brought her legs over his shoulders knowing that she was flexible, he slammed into her hard.

"God," she arched against him, the fire that was just a dull throb was now a pulse growing wider and wider throughout her body. "Make me come, Jayne, Make me come again....and again... and again," she cried.

"Needy little thing aren't you?" Jayne smirked and pulled almost always out and slammed into her again.

"Only for my Jayne," she said breathlessly. Jayne let her legs down and he bent down and kissed her. "Let's make a boy, tonight." Jayne smiled as he slid them to the edge of the bed. Once to the edge of the bed he stood, while still inside River, she had to arch to keep him inside of her he grabbed a pillow and put it under her. He grabbed her knees to his sides.

"Hold on, this is going to be a bumpy ride," he winked and River gasped as Jayne discovered something new inside her that made her scream and that pulse explode. ~

Mal thrust himself inside of Inara, holding on to the head board making sure he didn't leave her behind, Inara hands grasped and clutched Mal's ass. Inara was trained to make adequate noise while making love, not too soft and not too loud. Nothing said trashy border whore to a companion than a loud gutter mouth, but she wasn't a Companion anymore.

"Fuck," she gasped on with a drawn breath " Fuck, I can't," she cried out with one hadn twisting up the sheets besides her.

"Come on Nara, come on," Mal coached her his thumb rubbing her right where she needed. Inara was different from every other women Mal made love to. Inara always fought orgasm, too many years of Companion training had trained her body to be a vessel, to disconnect the physical with the mental. It was a battle to make her come and come hard, but Mal loved it. It was his challenge and he always came out victorious.

"Give it to me, Nara, give it to me," he said and she arched her body becoming taut like a bow ready to be shot. He bent down and sucked a very sensitive nipple and she came in a rush of warmth and tears and gasps all in which Mal swallowed.

Mal let himself go inside of her, spilling his seed deep, thrusting hard until his legs finally gave out and he collapsed on Inara. She held him to her. Her hands in his hair. He kissed her and smiled. He wanted to do this with her forever.

"Inara?" he whispered rolling to his side. She kept her arms around him her thigh over his leg.

"Yes, bao bei," she smiled happily in after glow.

"If I were to ask you a question, would you say yes?" he asked and Inara looked up at him. He looked as scared as a man in a room full of Reavers.

She touched his face and she kissed him, "If it's 'the question' then of course, I would say yes."

"Good, cause I'm gonna ask you," Mal nodded and Inara smiled.

"I will be waiting for you to," she said knowing they probably sounded ridiculous to outsiders, but this was how their relationship worked.

"Nara," he said after a long moment of silence. She was just drifting off to sleep again.

"Yes, bao bei," she yawned.

"I can't wait," he sighed, sounding annoyed with his own impatience. "Will you marry me?"

Inara laughed and then nodded, "Yes, yes, of course, I will marry you." Mal kissed Inara and they made love again.

Jayne made one last thrust and spilled himself deep inside River and with a knowing that only she possessed, she knew that they had just made a boy.
