Chapter 3- Easier Said Than Done

Jayne and River spent the next three days tip toeing around each other. Avoiding each other like the Gorram plague. River was hurt that Jayne was ignoring her, Jayne was pissed he couldn't get River out of his mind. Mal was growing suspicious of them and Inara was trying to divert his attention elsewhere, because she knew that Jayne and River need time to truly understand what was going on between them before Mal or Simon got involved.

Simon had his hands full with Zoe who was having a lot of false labor pains and Kaylee was constantly trying to fix Serenity who was working on more spare parts than usual since this was actually the longest time she spent in the black without actually touching down planetside. It was just a stroke of luck that she found out about River and Jayne.

Kaylee had been working hard to find something on the ship that she could convert to a working part of Serenity's engine. She had found the perfect metal shape she needed in a box of scrap metal underneath the cargo bay stairs. She was quietly putting together the parts under the steps when she heard Jayne rushing down the stairs with River hot on his heels.

"I wish to talk to you, Neanderthal," River said and Jayne ignored her.

"I ain't got nothing to say," Jayne went to his weight bench.

"You have been ignoring me for three days!" River complained and Jayne hunched his shoulders.

"What's there to say?" he asked and River took off her boot and threw it at him. It hit him in the shoulder. Kaylee had to bite her lip to keep from laughing.

"What the Hell's wrong with you?" Jayne rubbed his shoulder.

"Me? Me? We took part in sexual intercourse and now you are treating me like one of your whores!" Kaylee heard River and her eyes went wide.

"Hey now, whores get coin," he joked. River threw the other boot and it hit him in the forehead.

"Ow, Gorram it, River!" Jayne angrily marched over to River and grabbed her by the shoulders. They looked at each other for only a second before River skillfully jumped into his arms and they began kissing heatedly like they wanted to eat each other up. Kaylee took this time to slink out of the cargo bay. She knew that River had to have known she was there, but River didn't seem like she much cared if she was or not.

Jayne lifted River so her legs were wrapped around his waist, his hands squeezing her ass. She moaned in his mouth. He laid her down on the weight bench, lifting both her legs he removed her underwear as far as her knees trapping her legs together. He touched her womanhood and found her soaking for him. He sank a finger inside of her, and when she squirmed against him with a breathy moan he added another. He thrust his long straight fingers inside of her until she cried out and clenched her legs around his hand.

"Oh, please," she moaned and Jayne undid his belt, found his painfully hard member and sank into her. She cried out from pleasure as he slid out and then back in, finding a deep steady rhythm that was already building up another fire inside her. It brought her body up to meet his thrust and made her pull at his shirt. Jayne heard it tear but he didn't much give a damn. Jayne hand went around her hip and found her with his fingers, stroking her fire in every way. River's dam broke and she cried out.

"I'm coming, Jayne. God, I coming, yes," she said as she rodes the waves of her pleasure that were so intense it brought tears to her eyes. Jayne found himself thrusting harder and faster spurred on by the intensity of her release and with one more deep thrust his spilled himself inside of her. With deep labored breaths he released her legs and pulled out.

Kaylee went back to the engine room contemplating whether she should tell Simon. She knew Simon would probably blow a gasket if he knew, but there was something about the way Jayne looked at River right before they started kissing that caught Kaylee's attention. She had seen that very same look before.

Strong familiar arms wrapped around her waist and she felt lips on her neck. She must've been deep in thought not to hear Simon approaching. She smiled as those hands slid up her sides and she turned around. Her breath caught when she looked into Simon's eyes. There it was, that look. Jayne was in love with River and he was just too damn stupid to realize it. It was then Kaylee decided she would not tell Simon, she was going to forget what she saw and let River and Jayne figure it out on their own.

She had other things to worry about anyway, she thought as she dragged her very willing bao bei down to the floor of her engine room. She could fix the part later.

Inara was sitting with Zoe in the infirmary, Zoe had a rough night of false labor the night before. Inara decided to care for her while Simon went to get some rest. The women were talking baby names when first they saw a very flushed and disheveled River come from the cargo bay stairs. Then ten minutes after Jayne appeared with his shirt ripped wearing a bemused smile.

"Their not," Zoe began and Inara gave her a look that spoke words.

"Really?" Zoe said shocked. Inara smiled.

"For how long?"

"It's a recent development."

"Really?"

"Yes."

"Does Mal know?" Zoe's eyes went big. "Does Simon?"

"Neither know, and I think we should keep that way," Inara said.

Zoe shook her head and then put it out of her mind. What River and Jayne did as two consenting adults was none of her business and it was best that she kept to her own, which was all about her baby. She felt him kick and she smiled.

"How do you like the name, Walker?" Zoe picked up their previous conversation as if they didn't have a brief interlude.

"Walker is a strong name for a boy," Inara grinned taking her hand.
