As most will know, Rotten Tomato bases its averages for movie reviews off of a national list of movie critics.

At 91% it has received better opening acclaim than:
88% Inside Man
75% V For Vendetta
77% Munich
84% King Kong- Oscar
76% The Chronicles- Oscar
89% Harry Potter an...
83% Walk the Line- Oscar
76% Crash- Oscar

Slither was just released today. It is FAR too early to start comparing its tomatometer to all of those other movies which mostly, have been released a LONG while ago, or at least have had a decent run in the box office so far (Vendetta, Inside Man) and therefore have a full archieve of reviews. Slither (as of now) has 37. The others have at least, 140. The ratio is way too wide for any sort of comparing.

I do think with its current ratio, the tomato-meter will remain quite high but I think its unjust to compare its current percentages to those movies' full database of reviews. I've seen movies, in the high 90's go down at least 10% in a week.

But of all the movies opening that have just around the same number of reviews. Slither is doing the best BY FAR.

92% Slither
64% ATL
63% Ice Age: The Meltdown
10% Basic Instinct 2: Risk Addic...
64% Brick

On the subject of Slither, does anyone know if the actor who played the Sheriff in The Train Job is also in the movie? I've only seen the trailor, but I'm sure that I saw him...

69 is good at Metacritic, it's a lot more than most of the current movies. Mediocre is anything less than 60.

Serenity got 74 which is very good, probably top 10%.

I noticed that, too (haven't seen the movie yet), and posted in two other Slither threads here that I saw the sheriff...

Glad someone could confirm this!

Slither earns $1,500,000 friday and looks to earn about $4 million in it's first weekend of release.

Not too great :(

If I remember correctly Serenity earnt $4 million on the Friday and $10 million over the weekend.

edit- but I just remembered that Alan is in Ice Age 2, so great news for him, as that reached an incredible $22 million of Friday.

I never go by the critics reviews
The majority of them want movies like Brokeback Mountain and other controversial movies in their good list.
I go by what entertains me and gives me an escape from the "real world"

A sign of a good movie is one that the director will actually sit down and enjoy and enjoy it with a crowd. Lucas , Speilbeg, and Ridley Scott do this and the majority of the time they succeed

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

I just got back from seeing it. Not as good as I hoped after seeing all of the rave reviews, but still very entertaining. Nathan was fantastic, of course, but it probably won't due very well overall. There was only 10 or 12 people in the theatre for the matinee. The first time I saw Serenity, at that same time, there was 30 people there.

But I hope it does well.

I saw it at the screening in Chicago on Thursday night. Loved it. Very funny dialog, and some nice gross-out moments. I'll definitely be seeing it again.

I have seen Slither and thought it was crazy, horror fun. I also noticedone of the deputy's asked Bill (Nathan's character) if they should bring the gernade and he said no...shades of Serenity flashback boys and girls. Nathan did great.

Yes he is the mayor. I saw the movie at it's first show at the local theater. I also dragged a freind who is not into horror movies & he laughed his ass off. It has some great effects if you like horror movies. It is also really funny. Laugh out loud funny. Nathan does a great job & I am not just saying that beacuse I'm a browncoat. The mayor can't remember his name is also hilarious. Just a good flick go see it.

Just saw it yesterday. It is delightfully disgusting, crazily creepy and wonderfully hilarious. It'll make you want to throw up and laugh while people die. See it! Plus it has the sheriff from the Train Job in it. There is great acting and real characters (which is, of course, almost unheard of in horror movies). Again, see it!

I went to see Slither as I promised, and stood up at the end and wished Nathan a happy birthday. I am not generally one for horror movies, because the people in them rarely have realistic reactions to the crazy sh** that is happening around them. Slither was hi- larious, not just because of the one-liners, but because the reactions were more realistic. I was pleasantly surprised by the movie. Also, from boxofficemojo.com, the production and ad costs are listed as N/A, which sometimes means that the numbers haven't been released, but usually means that they are rather small, so the movie should make its money back fairly quickly.

So who is he?
He's my husband.
Well who in the damn galaxy ain't!

I saw Slither opening night as I promised Nathan. ( I think we all did )
I loved the movie, I am not a horror flick fan, so it was a stretch even though Nathan was in it.
HILARIOUS! I agree with a lot of the responders above, lots of Firefly/Serenity flashes there, with the granade and a lot of the smart ass comments, you know, as if we took Mal, threw him back to 2006 and allowed him free use of the work "FUCK" lmao.

Now, for my rant of the evening ( morning, whatever )

The movie was spoiled for me by one ( or 5 ) little things... CHILDREN! Some idiot parents actually brought their VERY young children to this movie. SO, most of my evening, between laughs and "OWNED" shouts, was muchkins wondering around the theater, and crying about the evil slugs gonna get them. Can we say, NIGHTMARES??? ANYONE???

Nothing that I hate more than stupid parents... I mean jeez, my daughter is five, loves Firefly, and has a great ground on reality. BUT, I wouldnt allow her to see Star Wars Epidode III and I screened Harry Potter before allowing her to see it. "Slither" is NOT one she'll be seeing for the next oh... 12 yrs!

Its all so fancy, and there's some kind of hot cheese over there...

America loves a winner!

I liked it. It wasn't awesome, but it was good fun. I actually like Lake Placid a bit more, but I'd put Slither in that catagory. Some gory stuff w/ some damn funny lines tossed in there.

Oh, and 1 more thing. It's really great to see Nathan on the big screen again. It suits him just fine. Hope there's plenty more of that (sequel!) *cough* on the way.

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

Just read the Slither review on MSNBC. They had some very shiny things to say about our captain.

"As Bill Pardy, the police chief in a hillbilly town overrun by killer slugs and flesh-munching zombies, Fillion expands on the droll flair he mastered as skipper of the rickety spaceship Serenity.

“Slither” also lets Fillion cut loose and get really goofy, all the while maintaining his boyish rogue’s charm. This guy deserves to be a major star."

OMG - I'm glad I'm not the only one. When my husband and I went last weekend, there was a family with two pre-teens there. From two rows back, I could see and hear that they were not in the least bit comfortable. How could the parents not notice? I don't consider myself a prude (I was an exotic dancer in my youth), but between the language and the gore, pre-teens should NOT be seeing this. Kids are more sophisticated than previous generations, but basic brain wiring just wouldn't usually allow them to process these images. Only my sense of self preservation kept me from expressing a few choice words.

We LOVED the movie, BTW. We were still laughing at certain scenes hours later.

Hate horror, loved Slither -- hillarious B-movie fun. My girlfriend and I were both MST3King the whole thing with Firefly quotes in fitting moments, for which there were many. It was nice that the film was opened with "huh" -- but was dissapointed that Nathan's final line as they're walking past all the human devistation wasn't "yep...that went well..." :-)

I finally got my chance to watch Slither yesterday. I thought it was soooo funny! I dragged my friend along, who is now a fellow Browncoat, and she enjoyed the film too. It's not a movie you have to sit and think really hard about. If you're tired, want to relax, and laugh this movie does it for ya.

Nathan was great. I'm not sure if I would have seen this movie if he weren't in it, so hats off to him for directing me to such a funny horror film.

BTW, I liked the fact he was wearing a Brown coat in the movie (like most cops in that area would), and the young girl's name was Kaylee. (although spelled different) Nathan's character had a bit of Mal in him which I thought was sweet.

I just got back from seeing it. Dear God, Jesus is it funny? See I go into movies having VERY low expectations, ezpecially ones with this nature, but when you're laughing so hard yolu choke on popcorn or just about tinkle yourself, it's definitely one to go in top 100's in my book. Definite replay value and overall hilarious dialogue. Nathan and what's his face sheriff man from Train Job have some of the best lines ever.

"What's a 'Gina?"

"Uh, well, 'Gina, it's one of those countries, you know, like where 'Ginese people are from."
