I'd like to start a thread that is a bit different than "what song are you listening to now" Simple rules(That I hope we all follow)

1) post the lyrics to a song you love.. with no commentary....without naming the artist

2) If possible add a link for the song(so if someone likes the lyrics they can hear how the artist performed it)

3)You have to comment on the lyrics of the post above you before you post your own.

Civility please(yes, coming from me that sounds hilarious...but try...I give my word I will not Troll this thread)

I'll start

"Disintegration"

oh i miss the kiss of treachery the shameless
kiss of vanity the soft and the black and the
velvety up tight against the side of me and
mouth and eyes and heart all bleed and run in
thickening streams of greed as bit by bit it
starts the need to just let go my party piece

oh i miss the kiss of treachery the aching kiss
before i feed the stench of a love for a younger
meat and the sound that it makes when it cuts
in deep the holding up on bended knees the
addiction of duplicities as bit by bit it starts
the need to just let go my party piece

but i never said i would stay to the end so i
leave you with babies and hoping for frequency
screaming like this in the hope of the secrecy
screaming me over and over and over i leave
you with photographs pictures of trickery
stains on the carpet and stains on the scenery
songs about happiness murmured in dreams
when we both us knew how the ending would
be...

so it's all come back round to breaking apart
again breking apart like i'm made up of glass
again making it up behind my back again
holding my breath for the fear of sleep again
holding it up behind my head again cut in deep
to the heart of the bone again round and round
and round and it's coming apart again over and
over and over

now that i know that i'm breaking to pieces i'll
pull out my heart and i'll feed it to anyone
crying for sympathy crocodile cry for the love
of the crowd and the three cheers from
everyone dropping through sky through the
glass of the roof through the roof of your mouth
through the mouth of your eye through the eye
of the needle it's easier for me to get closer to
heaven than ever feel whole again

i never said i would stay to the end i knew i
would leave you with babies and everything
screaming like this in the hole of sincerity
screaming me over and over and over i leave
you with photographs pictues of trickery
stains on the carpet and stains on the memory
songs about
happiness murmured in dreams when we both
of us knew how the end always is...

how the end always is...

3) Dark, and bitter. I liked it put to the music.

1) From the ice-age to the dole-age
There is but one concern
I have just discovered :

Some girls are bigger than others
Some girls are bigger than others
Some girl's mothers are bigger than
Other girl's mothers

Some girls are bigger than others
Some girls are bigger than others
Some girl's mothers are bigger than
Other girl's mothers

As Anthony said to Cleopatra
As he opened a crate of ale :

Oh, I say :
Some girls are bigger than others
Some girls are bigger than others
Some girl's mothers are bigger than
Other girl's mothers

Some girls are bigger than others
Some girls are bigger than others
Some girl's mothers are bigger than
Other girl's mothers

Send me the pillow ...
The one that you dream on ...
Send me the pillow ...
The one that you dream on ...
And I'll send you mine

2)

This song's just on my mind at the moment, I don't know why, could be the boobies thread...

Very nice. happen to know it so for Hee Hee and Ho Ho

See KPO we are more alike than you think...

a man in my shoes runs a light
and all the papers lied tonight
but falling over you
is the news of the day
angels fall like rain
and love is all of heaven away
inside you the time moves
and she don't fade
the ghost in you
she don't fade
inside you the time moves
and she don't fade
a race is on i'm on your side
and hearing you my engines die
i'm in a mood for you
for running away
stars come down in you
and love...you can't give it away
inside you the time moves
and she don't fade
the ghost in you
she don't fade
inside you the time moves
and she don't fade
don't you go
it makes no sense
when all your talking supermen
just take away the time
and get in the way
ain't it just like rain
and love...is only heaven away
inside you the time moves
and she don't fade
the ghost in you
she don't fade
inside you the time moves

I have an old friend that collected Psychedelic Fur albums but I was more into Black Sabbath at that time.

Can I tell you something?
I got to tell you one thing
If you expect the freedom
That you say is yours
Prove that you deserve it
Help us to preserve it
Or being free will just be
Words and nothing more

Can I tell you something?

Yes. Two peas in a pod.

3) Nice enough but is there any great, politically inspired right-wing music? I'm yet to be convinced.

1) Some great politically inspired lyrics:

How many roads must a man walk down,
before you call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove fly,
before she sleeps in the sand?
And how many times must a cannon ball fly,
before they're forever banned?

The answer my friend is blowing in the wind,
the answer is blowing in the wind.

How many years can a mountain exist,
before it is washed to the sea?
How many years can some people exist,
before they're allowed to be free?
And how many times can a man turn his head,
and pretend that he just doesn't see?

The answer my friend is blowing in the wind,
the answer is blowing in the wind.

How many times must a man look up,
before he sees the sky?
And how many ears must one man have,
before he can hear people cry ?
And how many deaths will it take till we know,
that too many people have died?

The answer my friend is blowing in the wind,
the answer is blowing in the wind.

The answer my friend is blowing in the wind,
the answer is blowing in the wind.

3) I've always loved that song! It's sort of epitomizes the sixties to me.

Well, I dreamed I saw the knights
In armor coming,
Saying something about a queen.
There were peasants singing and
Drummers drumming
And the archer split the tree.
There was a fanfare blowing
To the sun
That was floating on the breeze.
Look at Mother Nature on the run
In the nineteen seventies.
Look at Mother Nature on the run
In the nineteen seventies.

I was lying in a burned out basement
With the full moon in my eyes.
I was hoping for replacement
When the sun burst through the sky.
There was a band playing in my head
And I felt like getting high.
I was thinking about what a
Friend had said
I was hoping it was a lie.
Thinking about what a
Friend had said
I was hoping it was a lie.

Well, I dreamed I saw the silver
Space ships flying
In the yellow haze of the sun,
There were children crying
And colors flying
All around the chosen ones.
All in a dream, all in a dream
The loading had begun.
They were flying Mother Nature's
Silver seed to a new home in the sun.
Flying Mother Nature's
Silver seed to a new home.

Wow , those are cool lyrics. Puts me in mind of Silent Running , and a song Joanie C. Baez did for the film's soundtrack...

Here's my little contribution , dedicated to my adopted mei-mei whom I call by the nickname
shenzhou. My soul-sister's a spaceship , we had a complicated childhood.

I'm keeping you i'm keeping you
I'm keeping you so realize your fate
I'm keeping you i'm keeping you
I'm keeping you so settle down now

You landed here from inner space
You landed with that screwed-up look on your face
I wanted you from way back when
I wanted you for years, then years again

I'm keeping you i'm keeping you
I'm keeping you so settle in now

My return to wildlife by satellite
By beautiful moon-shining girl
Whether by hard ground or splashdown
We're safely back in the world

My heart's not new
I'm not like you
I've loved and been loved well and badly too
My body's been through everything
I've used and been used
I got over it
There's something that you learn on a tightrope
Just outside the spotlight there's a big net waiting for...

My return to wildlife by satellite
By beautiful moon-shining girl
Whether by hard ground or splashdown
We're safely back in the world

I'm keeping you

By the way , Thank You Tanya , for singing that concert for me while I stood in the front row at your feet . and gazed into your loving eyes. My heart is still on your side.

3) That's a sweet song Out2.

A few other good/lyrical songs that come to mind, that I may as well just reel off:

A window into British society, from an upper-lower-middle class viewpoint:

The Smiths "I know it's over" (pretty melancholic):

Favourite song. Simple lyrics, to the point, lots of rhyming... just epic:

It's not personal. It's just war.

I don't know to many British bands, but they do have some awesome ones.

Woke up this morning, started to sneeze
I had a cigarette and a cup of tea
I looked in the mirror what did i see
A nine stone weakling with knobbly knees
I did my knees bend press ups touch my toes
I had another sneeze and i blew my nose
I looked in the mirror at my pigeon chest
I had to put on my clothes because it made me depressed
Surely there must be a way
For me to change the shape i'm in
Dissatisfied is what i am
I want to be a better man

Superman superman wish i could fly like superman
Superman superman i want to be like superman
I want to be like superman
Superman superman wish i could fly like superman

Woke up this morning, what did i see
A big black cloud hanging over me
I switched on the radio and nearly dropped dead
The news was so bad that i fell out of bed
There was a gas strike, oil strike, lorry strike, bread strike
Got to be a superman to survive
Gas bills, rent bills, tax bills, phone bills
I'm such a wreck but i'm staying alive

[look in the paper, what do i see,
Robbery, violence, insanity.]

Hey girl we've got to get out of this place
There's got to be something better than this
I need you, but i hate to see you this way
If i were superman then we'd fly away
I'd really like to change the world
And save it from the mess it's in
I'm too weak, i'm so thin
I'd like to fly but i can't even swim

Superman superman i want to fly like superman
Superman superman wish i could fly like superman
Superman superman wish i could fly like superman
Superman superman i want to be like superman
Superman superman i want to fly like superman

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Huh. Amazing how many of these are on my iPod already...

I'll play.

Quote:

The screen door slams
Mary' dress waves
Like a vision she dances across the porch
As the radio plays
Roy Orbison singing for the lonely
Hey that's me and I want you only
Don't turn me home again
I just can't face myself alone again
Don't run back inside
Darling you know just what I'm here for
So you're scared and you're thinking
That maybe we ain't that young anymore
Show a little faith there's magic in the night
You ain't a beauty but hey you're alright
Oh and that's alright with me

You can hide 'neath your covers
And study your pain
Make crosses from your lovers
Throw roses in the rain
Waste your summer praying in vain
For a saviour to rise from these streets
Well now I'm no hero
That's understood
All the redemption I can offer girl
Is beneath this dirty hood
With a chance to make it good somehow
Hey what else can we do now ?
Except roll down the window
And let the wind blow
Back your hair
Well the night's busting open
These two lanes will take us anywhere
We got one last chance to make it real
To trade in these wings on some wheels
Climb in back
Heaven's waiting on down the tracks
Oh-oh come take my hand
We're riding out tonight to case the promised land
Oh-oh Thunder Road oh Thunder Road
Lying out there like a killer in the sun
Hey I know it's late we can make it if we run
Oh Thunder Road sit tight take hold
Thunder Road

Well I got this guitar
And I learned how to make it talk
And my car's out back
If you're ready to take that long walk
From your front porch to my front seat
The door's open but the ride it ain't free
And I know you're lonely
For words that I ain't spoken
But tonight we'll be free
All the promises'll be broken
There were ghosts in the eyes
Of all the boys you sent away
They haunt this dusty beach road
In the skeleton frames of burned out Chevrolets
They scream your name at night in the street
Your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet
And in the lonely cool before dawn
You hear their engines roaring on
But when you get to the porch they're gone
On the wind so Mary climb in
It's a town full of losers
And I'm pulling out of here to win

Not even a big Springsteen fan, but this song always brings me back to 1975...

And, just because it was the first song of theirs that ever grabbed my attention...

Quote:

A dreaded sunny day
So I meet you at the cemetery gates
Keats and Yeats are on your side

A dreaded sunny day
So I meet you at the cemetery gates
Keats and Yeats are on your side
While Wilde is on mine

So we go inside and we gravely read the stones
All those people all those lives
Where are they now?
With the loves and hates
And passions just like mine
They were born
And then they lived and then they died
Seems so unfair
And I want to cry

You say: "ere thrice the sun done salutation to the dawn"
And you claim these words as your own
But I've read well, and I've heard them said
A hundred times, maybe less, maybe more

If you must write prose and poems
The words you use should be your own
Don't plagiarise or take on loan
There's always someone, somewhere
With a big nose, who knows
And who trips you up and laughs
When you fall
Who'll trip you up and laugh
When you fall

You say: "ere long done do does did"
Words which could only be your own
And then you then produce the text
From whence was ripped some dizzy whore, 1804

A dreaded sunny day
So let's go where we're happy
And I meet you at the cemetery gates
Oh Keats and Yeats are on your side

A dreaded sunny day
So let's go where we're wanted
And I meet you at the cemetery gates
Keats and Yeats are on your side
But you lose because Wilde is on mine

PHOENIXROSE

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I'm not the biggest Springsteen fan either, Kwicko, but that is one that I like a lot.
It's difficult to chose between all the songs I love. I may end up posting several, but I settled on this one first.

In every heart there is a room
A sanctuary safe and strong
To heal the wounds from lovers past
Until a new one comes along

I spoke to you in cautious tones
You answered me with no pretense
And still I feel I said too much
My silence is my self defense

And every time I've held a rose
It seems I only felt the thorns
And so it goes, and so it goes
And so will you soon I suppose

But if my silence made you leave
Then that would be my worst mistake
So I will share this room with you
And you can have this heart to break

And this is why my eyes are closed
It's just as well for all I've seen
And so it goes, and so it goes
And you're the only one who knows

So I would choose to be with you
As if the choice were mine to make
But you can make decisions too
And you can have this heart to break

And so it goes, and so it goes
And you're the only one who knows

That's a really beautiful song with great lyrics, PR!

Slow down,
we've got time left to be lazy
All the kids have bloomed from babies into flowers in our eyes.
We've got 50 good years left to spend out in the garden
I don't care to beg your pardon,
We should live until we die.

We were barely 18 when we'd crossed collective hearts.
It was cold, but it got warm when you'd barely crossed my eye.
and then you turned, put out your hand,
and you asked me to dance.
I knew nothing of romance, but it was love at second sight.

I swear when I grow up, I won't just buy you a rose.
I will buy the flower shop, and you will never be lonely.
Even if the sun stops waking up over the fields
I will not leave, I will not leave 'till it's our time.
So just take my hand, you know that I will never leave your side.

It was the winter of '86, and all the fields had frozen over.
So we moved to Arizona to save our only son
and now he's turning to a man, although he thinks just like his mother,
he believes we're all just lovers he sees hope in everyone.

And even though she moved away,
we always get calls from our daughter.
She has eyes just like her father's
they are blue when skies are grey
And just like him, she never stops,
Never takes the day for granted,
works for everything that's handed to her,
Never once complains.

You think that I nearly lost you
When the doctors tried to take you away.
But like the night you took my hand beside the fire
30 years ago to this day
You swore you'd be here 'til we decide that it's our time
Well it's not time, you've never quit in all your life.
So just take my hand, you know that I'll never leave your side.
You're the love of my life, you know that I'll never leave your side.

You come home from work and you kiss me on the eye
You curse the dogs and say that I should never feed them what is ours
and so we move out to the garden, and look at everything we have grown
and the kids are coming home
I'll set the table
You can make the fire.

RIVERDANCER

I like the lyrics far more than I like the vocal execution of them.

Some of them were dreamers
And some of them were fools
Who were making plans and thinking of the future
With the energy of the innocent
They were gathering the tools
They would need to make their journey back to nature
While the sand slipped through the opening
And their hands reached for the golden ring
With their hearts they turned to each other's heart for refuge
In the troubled years that came
Before the deluge

Some of them knew pleasure
And some of them knew pain
And for some of them it was only the moment that mattered
And on the brave and crazy wings of youth
They went flying around in the rain
And their feathers, once so fine, grew torn and tattered
And in the end they traded their tired wings
For the resignation that living brings
And exchanged love's bright and fragile glow
For the glitter and the rouge
And in the moment they were swept
Before the deluge

Now let the music keep our spirits high
And let the buildings keep our children dry
Let creation reveal its secrets by and by
When the light that's lost within us reaches the sky

Some of them were angry
At the way the earth was abused
By the men who learned how to forge her beauty into power
And they struggled to protect her from them
Only to be confused
By the magnitude of her fury in the final hour
And when the sand was gone and the time arrived
In the naked dawn only a few survived
And in attempts to understand a thing so simple and so huge
Believed that they were meant to live
After the deluge

Let the music keep our spirits high
And let the buildings keep our children dry
Let creation reveal its secrets by and by
When the light that's lost within us reaches the sky

Both singers in the above video are poets, but this particular song was written by Jackson Browne. I just love the way the two of them sing it.

PHOENIXROSE

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I grew up with Jackson Browne, my mom was a big fan. I always find his songs to be a kind of comforting presence.

Trusting the light, afraid by the night
Led by their creed they're freed from dark sins
Lost in the light the prophet ruled their faith
Threatening their fate if they venture in darkness

Life for days or life for nights
Worship the sun, don't lose your mind
With the dawn the hope arises
With the twilight comes fears and cries

In the heart of men there are light and darkness
By choosing a side we are killing ourselves
Together we stay in the name of the oath
Forever we will be defending human worth

Prophecies of light and darkness keep the seal of the life's secrets
Together we hold that quest and forever we'll keep the faith

A new arrival in the land of the sun
A blind man predicting an era of changes
The day’ll turn to night, the sun'll turn to black
The truth of the world will enlighten your eyes

Life for days or life for nights
Worship the moon, don't lose your mind
The hope comes with the twilight
Since the dawn there’s only cries

In the heart of men there are light and darkness
By choosing a side we are killing ourselves
Together we stay in the name of the oath
Forever we will be defending human worth

Prophecies of light and darkness keep the seal of the life's secrets
Together we hold that quest and forever we'll keep the faith

Buried into night for the first time as the moon ruled their sky

Both fear and wonders dancing deep in their eyes
The eclipse opened the gates of their bright prison forever

Life for days and life for nights
Worship them both, don't lose your mind
Without dawn no life in eyes
Without twilight no peace inside

In the heart of men there are light and darkness
By choosing a side we are killing ourselves
Together we stay in the name of the oath
Forever we will be defending human worth

Prophecies of light and darkness keep the seal of the life's secrets
Together we hold that quest and forever we'll keep the faith

European metal, ftw.

JAYNEZTOWN

I'm not one for lyric content, maybe I prefer reading an actual Poem or Book

Punk and Rap have a lot of lyrics but musically it becomes 'noise' or shouting

but there are good ones Bob Dylan, Tina Turner, Buddy Holly, Prince, Björk, Roy Orbison, Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, Simon and Garfunkel, Dolly Parton, James Taylor, Van Morrison, Billie Joe Armstrong, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, the Beatles, Kris Kristofferson, Woody Guthrie, Aretha Franklin, Hank Williams, Billy Joel...a lot of Classical guys might be under-rated by people who only know pop, do they know Mozart for example
oldies the Lenopard Bernstein soundtrack compositions or charleston new sound swing era George and Ira Gershwin
I do respect some of the modern-ish singers the Lyrics of Green Day or Billy Corgan or vocalist 'Eddie Vedder' for example.

you know all the pop tunes

Some guys I can't stand, Queen can do it great voices, great groove and layered music if they sound too much like drunks or stoners dumb reggae I don't like repetitive stupid Marley but maybe some songs are ok. Even if some can play well I can get annoyed or bored of them but I can not tolerate Elton John and Bernie Taupin, just way too stupid and theatrical, although 'Prince' was also a freak then went politically religion but I always respected his ability to play
Leonard Cohen is a good lyricist and writes interesting chords but I just find the music kind of boring and miserable. Chuck Berry I think is a fool and a degenerate and the songs are silly not enough in them IMO they sound just stupid...the Beach Boys' always sounded dumb or pop for drunk stoned kids, missing ability or talent by my ears ...some modern British bands went the same way for a while 'sloppy' I would call it. Although changes in tempo or a human touch or mistakes on a live performance are expected 'Joni Mitchell' I think is a great musician really pushes it with strange chords and tuning.

Sometimes rivals help bring out more in song Lennon McCarthy for example or Fleetwood Mac the band that hated each other but Mick Fleetwood not an angry drummer from the Muppets chilled out and grooving on the drum.

I'm not religious but I like the harmony of Classic music “Gloria” tribute to God, an ode to the divine, a celebration of God’s glory and the peace that can be found the presence of 'God'. Vivaldi’s work is long, it begins with the Latin phrase “Gloria in excelsis Deo”, “Glory to God in the highest”. Sets the tone for the entire composition, highlighting the overwhelming praise and adoration lyrics continue to express a longing for a peaceful humanity a want for peace on earth, goodwill and desire of harmony or unity among all people. Lines “Et in terra pax hominibus bonae voluntatis” a wish for harmony and unity among humanity.

but how many followers of pop know the lyrics of classical composers Johann Sebastian Bach or Ludwig van Beethoven, many did sing different praise for 'God' or their 'Nation' but they could also be wild, Mozart was a freak a child who never had a real life like others raised in the arts and very rude in his lyrics
