Well... not me. If it weren't for home improvement expenditures nothing has changed here. I have no mortgage or rent. I have no money in the stock market. I buy stuff in bulk and usually find prices lower than what they were before Biden* trashed the world economy.

Sucks to be everybody else that's heading to the polls or sitting this one out though.

Admittedly though, that Dollar Tree going to $1.25 from a buck really stings.

The typical U.S. household is spending $445 more a month due to inflation.

Well... Not me.

If you don't include what I've spent on materials for fixing things around the house, my expenditures this year come out to around $19 per day. That's also a year where I've bought electronics I usually don't spring for, additional tools to my collection that I don't count in rehab material cost and bulk buying a LOT of stuff on the cheap that I will use in the future and is more valuable to me than cash is with the price of everything climbing. I've got plenty of room for all of it now that I've dehoarded all the crap I never needed and I've fixed up cabinets and closets in a house for 5 people with only 1 person living here.

Though I can't avoid the higher natural gas prices, I will be blunting them by keeping the heat lower this year. It only took me a few days to become acclimated to 55 degrees in the house with the thermostat set at 53. I can never go back to living without A/C, but you can always put more clothing on.

The rest of the article title was...

"Here’s how to reduce the bite"

Households can take certain steps to blunt the impact — and most are unlikely to feel good, according to financial advisors.

Deal with it, bitches. Seriously... all of these articles are written from the perspective of well-to-do people who have never had a taste of poverty, and are written to and for people in the same boat.

First, it’s critical to separate fixed from discretionary expenses, said Madeline Maloon, a financial advisor at San Ramon, California-based California Financial Advisors, which ranked No. 27 on CNBC’s FA 100 list.

Fixed expenses are outlays for essentials such as a mortgage, rent, food, transit costs and insurance, for example. Discretionary costs include spending on, say, dining out or vacations — things people enjoy but don’t necessarily need.

There’s often less flexibility to cut fixed expenses, meaning nonessentials are the budget area where households likely have to make cuts if they want to save money, Maloon said.

No shit, Madeline.

I'd ask, "What? They don't teach you this in public school?" But I already know the answer to that. No. They don't. They didn't in the 90's, and there's no way they do today. Cogs in the machine is what you are.

Quote:

Households may need to ask questions, Maloon added, such as: Is that new car necessary? Can I buy a used car or a cheaper model instead? Is a home remodel essential or something that can be put on hold and reevaluated at a different time?

Americans can also consider substitutions: traveling somewhere closer to home instead of a more expensive vacation destination farther away, or staying at cheaper lodging, for example. Or, perhaps getting a haircut every eight to 10 weeks instead of every six.

They can also reassess monthly subscriptions — to clothing and streaming services, for example — which can often serve as “money drains,” Maloon said. Some may be little-used but continue to suck money from your account each month.

“If you’re continuing to live the same lifestyle, you’re paying more for it,” Bert said.

If you're continuing to live the same lifestyle, you deserve to pay more for it, Bert.

A haircut every 8 to 10 weeks instead of 5, Bert? I'd bet my let nut that you haven't gone more than 2 weeks without a haircut since you landed that job. And you don't go to Supercuts or Great Clips either, do you Bert? I'd love to see you try not getting a haircut for 2 1/2 years. I dare you.

Welcome to my life. The one that I started living when I lost a great job in 2001, and one I chose to keep living even when I did get another great job and every day ever since.

To the people that articles like this are written to and about, I feel no pity for you. With the amount of money you've pissed away over the last 20 years, you shouldn't ever have to worry about working another day in your life, but since you've been living paycheck to paycheck for 20 years filling your lives and your heads up with shit you don't need, now you are whining about having to cut out that brand new car every 2 years or that bi-annual cruise, or stop paying for 20 streaming services simultaneously.

Woe is you.

Get fucked.

How come none of these stories ever actually talk about people who are really hurting during this recession that is killing people who were already barely making it without any luxuries because the food they need to eat is becoming unaffordable or the gas they need to get to work only goes half as far as it did 2 years ago?

Don't bother answering that. I already know the answer.
