The 1776 Commission was an advisory committee established in September 2020 by then–U.S. President Donald Trump to support what he called "patriotic education". The commission, which included no historians specializing in United States history, released The 1776 Report on January 18, 2021, two days before the end of Trump's term. Historians condemned the report, saying it was "filled with errors and partisan politics". The commission was terminated by President Joe Biden on January 20, 2021.

If it had been real German Nazis writing the 1776 Report, it would have been an example of real scholarship, but since the Report was written by Trumptards, it is an example of incompetence for which Trumptards are well known, except they don't know it themselves.

Trumptards steal at work, thinking nobody knows, then go on and on about their honesty, integrity, and work ethic. At least the real German Nazis would actually do what they said they'd do. Their goals were awful, but they were competent. Not so with Trumptards. Your goals are awful but, praise the Lord, you are also incompetent.

Trumptards won't admit Trump has cheated his entire adult life, from failing to pay contractors, to taxes, to adultery, to cheating at college. Why? They cheat, too. They are him, but not as daring.

An America without Conservatives

A missing tradition is haunting us, though we may not even realize it’s missing. It was called “conservatism,” and in the Anglo-American political tradition it has a record of partnering with liberals to create some of our greatest moments of democratic progress.

Our new president did once publicly hope to govern under a new and restored regime of that legendary chimera “bipartisanship,” liberals and conservatives hammering out compromise bills that advance the public interest. But that fantasy has quickly faded. Even after the departure of the former president and his hateful ways, what’s left of the Republican party seems to be a beast of unqualified partisanship, angry, ravenous, utterly uncompromising.

This became obvious when the “Covid Relief Bill” had to be passed in the Senate with only Democratic votes. Yet it was almost self-evidently needed as a response to an unprecedented public crisis. It was beneficial enough for some Republicans to take credit for it in public . . . despite having voted against it.

Where is the GOP that is heir to, for instance, the conservatives who helped pass civil rights legislation and who founded the Environmental Protection Agency? Or heir to the British conservatives (Tories) who expanded the electorate and made the entire system broader, less class-based, more democratic? Plaintively we ask, where are the conservatives of old? Ay, where are they?

Replaced by reactionaries, every one. And this is not name-calling. It’s sober truth. The United States, as of this writing, has no conservative party. Probably hasn’t for a decade or more.

The grand Anglo-American tradition of careful conservatives offering measured reform and real progress has vanished from America. An apocalyptic trio has replaced them: resentment, revanchism, and reaction. With three “R’s,” alliterative, as if for a tidy little sermon. And I can’t help wondering: what is the sickness of soul that leads to such angry irrationality?

* * *

Once upon a time in the United Kingdom, a conservative Tory government soon to be headed by Benjamin Disraeli oversaw a huge expansion of the right to vote, doubling the electorate in England and Wales. Some of the issues it addressed will sound familiar to an American audience.

“The Second Reform Act 1867 increased the number of men who could vote in elections. It expanded upon the First Reform Act, passed in 1832 by extending the vote to all householders and lodgers in boroughs who paid rent of £10 a year or more. It also lowered the property threshold which enabled agricultural landowners and tenants with very small amounts of land to vote. This legislation was influenced by the campaign of the Chartist movement, who were dissatisfied by the limited enfranchisement granted in the 1832 Act. The movement, driven by the working classes, petitioned for universal male suffrage and protested when their demands were rejected by Parliament. Eventually, Members of Parliament acknowledged that further reform was necessary.”

Why Do Republicans Hate Renewable Energy?

Pols who genuinely cared about energy independence would be going gangbusters for renewables (& building domestic battery supply chains). But the ones who say it most are the fossil fuel shills, which shows they care about the FF industry, not independence.

Even if you think climate change is just a progressive hoax, there's really no reason to oppose renewable energy. At the very least, it produces fewer air pollutants than fossil fuels, which everyone can agree is a good thing. And the industry as a whole would provide as many jobs as the fossil fuel industry if it were the same size. So why not support the hell out of it?

What you'd expect under normal circumstances is that senators from big coal and oil states might oppose renewable energy for purely parochial reasons, but that's a small fraction of all senators. And anyway, if this were truly about protecting the fossil fuel industry, conservatives would oppose nuclear power too. But they don't. They're all for it.

When you put this all together, what you have is this: Republicans oppose wind and solar; support nuclear; and support coal and oil. What kind of sense can you make of this?

Only one: they oppose whatever liberals support and support whatever liberals oppose. Rolling coal, baby. That's it. Own the libs. Welcome to the modern GOP.

Boot Camps For Crushing Democracy
Records show right-wing groups have used their conferences to teach Republican lawmakers how to gerrymander their states and suppress voting rights.

South Dakota boasts stringent voter ID laws and a recent review of its legislative districts show a “persistent Republican advantage” thanks to gerrymandering. The uneven playing field has helped South Dakota garner national headlines for its right wing legislation, such as laws attacking the separation of church and state.

The state’s Republican lawmakers didn’t come up with these policies by themselves. National organizations have been actively coaching its lawmakers on how to best take advantage of redistricting and deflect claims that voting restrictions are discriminatory, according to documents obtained by The Daily Poster through a public records request.

One of the groups, Wallbuilders, made a name for itself promoting legislation on issues such as displaying religious symbols on state property. But at Wallbuilders’ 2018 Profamily Legislative Network conference in Dallas, Texas, attendees were also taught about the legal validity of restrictive voting laws, according to documents describing the event obtained by The Daily Poster.

The other group, ALEC, or the American Legislative Exchange Council, taught a South Dakota legislator on how to best gerrymander state districts at its 2019 conference in Austin. According to documents describing the event, one of the attendees found that the conference “provided a lot of good and useful information on redistricting and ways to reduce the risk of lawsuits.”

Usually the subject matter of such invite-only conferences is shielded from public view. But both events were highlighted in a monthly “Legislator Update” newsletter produced by the South Dakota Legislative Research Council, a group of nonpartisan staffers who work in South Dakota’s state house. The publication is intended for South Dakota lawmakers, according to a description on the front page of each issue. The Daily Poster obtained copies of the newsletter using a public records request.

Such materials demonstrate how right-wing groups are working hand in hand with Republican lawmakers to strip voting rights and proper representation from the public, in order to safeguard these politicians’ elected positions and facilitate these organizations’ extremist goals.

US set for flurry of ‘Christian nationalist’ bills advanced by religious right

Legislation that would erode LGBTQ and reproductive rights expected to be introduced in states across America, experts warn

Donald Trump is set to leave the White House and Republicans are about to relinquish control of the Senate, but experts are warning the US is facing a wave of rightwing ‘Christian nationalist’ legislation in 2021, as the religious right aims to thrust Christianity into everyday American life.

With the supreme court now dominated by Trump-appointed conservative justices, elected officials in states across the country are set to introduce bills which would hack away at LGTBQ rights, reproductive rights, challenge the ability of couples to adopt children, and see religion forced into classrooms, according to a report by the American Atheists organization.

In recent years Republicans have sought to infuse religion into state politics across the country, many of the bills lifted from model legislation drafted by well-funded Christian lobbying organizations under an effort known as “Project Blitz”.

So, her defense is: "Only a stupid person would believe a liar like me." This is beyond satire.

Sidney Powell's defense would be humorous if there were not millions of people who actually believe her claim (a particular one with a distinctive orange face just repeated the claims two days ago). If thousands of idiots were not so into it that they almost destroyed our democracy on Jan 6, and if the Republican party didn't use it as a rationale for hundreds of proposed laws intended to limit the right to vote.

Fascists always have low IQs.

Funding Hate: How extremists like the ones who attacked the Capitol are making money off the internet
https://www.splcenter.org/news/2021/03/26/funding-hate-how-extremists-
ones-who-attacked-capitol-are-making-money-internet

Authorities have now charged more than 300 people with crimes in connection with the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, including two men charged with assault on the police officer who was killed and at least four dozen who are affiliated with the QAnon ideology or far-right extremist groups including the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers.

But despite the arrests and a vigorous federal investigation, the extremist ideologies and conspiracy theories that fueled the attack aren’t going away anytime soon. In fact, extremists have exploited new digital technologies to create a broader, more decentralized movement – and a web-based infrastructure that is helping their leaders raise millions of dollars to fund their activities.

Years in the making, this movement – based on white supremacy and a rejection of our pluralistic society and democratic values – was turbocharged by Donald Trump’s presidency. And, though Trump’s influence has begun to wane, it will likely continue to grow more militant and spawn violence and acts of terror long after Trump has faded from the political scene.

As the federal government and anti-racist groups mobilize to combat this threat, the financing of extremists in this increasingly decentralized landscape is a major concern.

Monetizing extremist content
In the past, hate groups raised money by means such as charging dues, selling products or requiring the purchase of uniforms. The funds were then used to pay for the distribution of propaganda and other recruitment efforts. Some groups, like the antigovernment group Oath Keepers, which has thousands of dues-paying members, still use this model.

Today, though, many white power groups and personalities are raising money through crowdfunding and the distribution of propaganda itself across a variety of platforms. The solicitation of donations during live video streaming, for example, is emerging as a major source of revenue.

In fact, crowdfunding and online content monetization enabled the extremists behind the “Stop the Steal” movement to make anti-democratic organizing a livelihood. Far-right activist and self-described “Stop the Steal” national organizer Ali Alexander, for example, has relied on websites like GiveSendGo, an alternative to the popular crowdfunding site GoFundMe, to secure funding for his activities. Nick Fuentes, a prominent white nationalist, has long earned his income from monetizing livestreams on YouTube and, later, DLive, a youth-targeted gaming website that was used to livestream the Capitol invasion. Vincent James Foxx, head of the far-right media outlet Red Elephants, has used the same livestreaming platforms, as well as the mobile payment service Cashapp and content monetization platform SubscribeStar.

Some extremists who stormed the Capitol actually made money from it. Tim Gionet, a longtime white nationalist personality who streams under the moniker “Baked Alaska” and who was arrested for his role in the Capitol riot, made roughly $2,000 from his Jan. 6 livestream, while his followers commented, “HANG ALL CONGRESSMEN.”

In November, the SPLC’s Hatewatch reported that dozens of extremist figures were each earning thousands of dollars per month on DLive. As the post-election period became dominated by Trump’s false assertion that the election was fraudulent, these DLive streamers shifted to video streaming at in-person events branded with the slogan “Stop the Steal.” Not surprisingly, boosted by this new mission and purpose, streaming donations shot through the roof, and some DLive streamers received nearly $44,000 from donations during November and December alone. Some of those same individuals ended up being featured by House impeachment managers as key perpetrators of the Jan. 6 violence when they once again used DLive to livestream the events at the Capitol.

Even when mainstream social media companies block extremists from using their services, the decentralized technology landscape too often fills the gap. YouTube, for example, has many such deplatforming strategies, including account time-outs, removal of chat features and disallowing bad actors to take donations or profit from advertising revenue. Some newer, smaller companies, however, have stepped in to provide alternative sites.

Myanmar Treats Protesters as Criminals, Kill over 400, As GOP Legislators Attempt To Do
https://www.opednews.com/articles/Myanmar-Treats-Protesters-by-Rob-Kal
l-Criminalizing-Protest_Myanmar_Protest-Civil-Disobedience_Protester-210328-724.html

In Myanmar, the half million strong army, the Tatmadaw, described as "a robotic rank of warriors bred to kill," according the NYTimes, has killed over 420 protesters.

They are killing their own people of Myanmar, people protesting for freedom and justice. Do they seem like monsters?

And yet, in the US, state after Republican-run state is passing laws criminalizing protest or legalizing the killing of protesters-- by automobile otherwise.

The scum who killed one cop and injured over 100, who attacked the capitol were having wet-dreams about killing Nancy Pelosi, Democrats, liberals, socialists and even Vice President Pence. Trump repeatedly encouraged violence against media and against protesters.

I don't think this idea of killing protesters and people on the left is a small thing. I don't see it as an outlier. I believe there are millions, yes millions of right wingers who would support the criminalization of protests-- at least protests by people on the left. I believe there are millions of people who would, if not approve of, accept the intentional murder of protesters by people driving into them. And we know that murderer Kyle Rittenhouse has had more than a million dollars raised for him by his supporters.

This is happening. We get to see what it looks like a few kicks of the can down the road, in Myanmar. The template exists. The Republican party is moving the US closer to that point. So far, here in the US, the killing of protesters has been fairly isolated. Yesterday, Myanmar's Tatmadaw soldiers killed over 100 people, including three children.

You think it's worse in Myanmar? Tell that to the families of the people killed in the grocery store in Boulder, the massage parlors in Atlanta-- and scores of other places in the US. The 420 number of people killed in Myanmar is dwarfed by the number of people killed in the US because the Republicans have blocked any attempts to pass laws that make people safer from guns. It's just a matter of framing how these neatly coifed, suited up, church-going members of the Senate are different than the monsters in the Tatmadaw who massacre civilians.

The NYTimes article quotes a captain in the Myanmar army who says that "most of the soldiers are brainwashed."

How is that different from the millions of Trump cult members, the millions of Qanon believers who have, in my opinion, become delusionally insane. They are also brainwashed, with the help of Fox News, OAN, Breitbart and other far right news/propaganda sources.

We have serious problems that portend great danger. Aggressive steps must be taken. It's going to take Chuck Schumer figuring out how work with Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema to get them to allow some modifications of the filibuster rules so that issues relating to democracy and justice cannot be blocked by these McConnell-led subborners and enablers of such monstrous deeds.

We need federal laws that make it clear that protesting is a core constitutional right that cannot be eroded, that protesters have all the rights of protections from murderers and perpetrators of violence that every other citizen has, and we, of course, need federal laws that effectively decrease or completely prevent the commission of mass killings.

This is essential. Joe Biden is fixated on infrastructure, and that's a good thing, but a robust infrastructure that allows killing of protesters and innocent victims is not enough.

Trump diehards are ready to embrace fascism -- and blame antifa for making them do it: conservative author
https://www.rawstory.com/gop-fascism/

Diehard supporters of former President Donald Trump are increasingly willing to admit that they are ready to abandon democracy, and they're blaming antifa and Hunter Biden for supposedly leaving them with no other option.

Conservative author Matt Lewis writes in The Daily Beast that he's noticed an uptick in calls on the right to abandon democracy in favor of authoritarian rule, and he's found that they're already trotting out excuses about the left supposedly forcing them to embrace fascism.

Fox News contributor Jesse Kelly, for instance, told host Tucker Carlson that it's all but assured that conservatives will rally behind fascism in the coming years given the extremism of the left.

"The right is going to pick a fascist within 10 to 20… years because they're not going to be the only ones on the outs," Kelly said. "There's 60, 70 million of us. We're not a tiny minority, and if we're going to be all treated like criminals and all subject to every single law, while antifa Black Lives Matter guys go free and Hunter Biden goes free, then the right's going to take drastic measures."

Lewis also points to a recent essay from Claremont Institute fellow Glenn Ellmers, who said that America now needs a "counter-revolution" because "most people living in the United States today—certainly more than half—are not Americans in any meaningful sense of the term."
---
So, most Americans aren't Americans. That's what a fascist would say. It excuses their murderous violence. The "other" is the threat, not them.

Thanks to Trump’s rhetoric, Asian Americans are moving toward the Democratic Party

Asian Americans have been reporting an increasing number of hate incidents since Trump began to use language that associated Asian Americans with the coronavirus a year ago, including a recent surge of violence against Asian Americans, particularly toward the elderly.

Matt Gaetz under INVESTIGATION for TROUBLING Relationship; he may LEAVE Congress for Newsmax

Florida's Matt Gaetz is under investigation by DOJ for potential relationship with a young woman who was not old enough. This is likely why he was planning to leave Congress for Newsmax, and it shows how Trump allies often ignored people like Gaetz when they accused liberals and Democrats. Im sure Ginger Luckey and Nestor Galban are very sad tonight.

Flying around the world with underage girls on the taxpayer's dime.

How the decline of religion is radicalizing the evangelical right
https://www.alternet.org/2021/04/religion-in-us-politics/?utm_source=&
amp;utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=6888

In Western Europe, the far-right White evangelical movement led by Christian fundamentalists like Pat Robertson, Dr. James Dobson, Tony Perkins and the late Moral Majority founder Jerry Falwell, Sr. didn't catch on the way it did in the United States — where White evangelicals have been a major voting block within the Republican Party. Even European Christians who go to church are likely to favor a separation of church and state and be non-fundamentalist in their views. And the U.S., according to Levitz, is moving more in that direction — much to the Christian right's dismay.

Levitz argues that as Americans become increasingly secular in their views, far-right evangelicals will respond in an authoritarian way — including voter suppression.

Levitz writes, "Whatever its impact on the GOP, the implications of creeping secularism are more dire for social conservatives. The Republican Party can ultimately retain political power by bringing its policy commitments into slightly closer alignment with public opinion. That is not an option for the Christian right's true believers. As a result, the movement is becoming forthrightly anti-democratic. On the one hand, the moral minority hopes to impose its will on the nation by judicial fiat. On the other, it aims to disenfranchise the heathen majority."
---
They just don't get it. They're getting left behind by their superiors.

Welcome to Day 72.

Today in one sentence: The Texas Senate passed new voting restrictions in the state; Georgia's Republican-controlled House stripped Delta Air Lines of a tax break worth tens of millions of dollars as punishment for its CEO's criticism of the state's new voting restrictions; about 15 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine were accidentally ruined; Biden asked Education Secretary Miguel Cardona to conduct a review of his legal authority to cancel student debt; and another 719,000 people applied for unemployment benefits.

Nazis hate free elections. They'll even claim that elections proven to be fair were somehow fraudulent, without a shred of evidence. They lie about everything.

The Republican Party Is Now Just a Lunatic Arm of Fox News

https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2021/04/02/john-boehner-book-me
moir-excerpt-478506

Retaking control of the House of Representatives put me in line to be the next Speaker of the House over the largest freshman Republican class in history: 87 newly elected members of the GOP. Since I was presiding over a large group of people who’d never sat in Congress, I felt I owed them a little tutorial on governing. I had to explain how to actually get things done. A lot of that went straight through the ears of most of them, especially the ones who didn’t have brains that got in the way. Incrementalism? Compromise? That wasn’t their thing. A lot of them wanted to blow up Washington. That’s why they thought they were elected.

Some of them, well, you could tell they weren’t paying attention because they were just thinking of how to fundraise off of outrage or how they could get on Hannity that night. Ronald Reagan used to say something to the effect that if I get 80 or 90 percent of what I want, that’s a win. These guys wanted 100 percent every time. In fact, I don’t think that would satisfy them, because they didn’t really want legislative victories. They wanted wedge issues and conspiracies and crusades.
