John Lee, conspiracy therapist at Hollywood award-winner History Channel-mocked SNL-spoofed PirateNew.org wooHOO!!!!!!

Annette Larkins shows off her garden in her Miami-Dade County backyard. It's full of fruits and vegetables. Every corner of her garden has something that is edible. She also collects rainwater to drink and water her plants.

Annette says the food in her garden is her 'Fountain of Youth.'

"I am very vibrant, I have lots of energy, as I told you before, I am up no later than 5:30 in the morning as a rule, and I am ready to go," she said.

Annette's husband owned a meat store in the 1960s. That's when she became a vegetarian. But as the years went by, she became a raw vegan. A

Annette says she does not eat animal products-- her food is unprocessed and uncooked. "My diet consists of fruits, nuts, vegetables and seeds. I do a lot of sprouting of seeds and as you can see from my garden and of course these are the raw foods that I eat."

Annette also juices fruits and veggies. You name it, she can juice it. Grapefruits, pineapples, even spinach. But not everyone in the Larkins family eats and drinks this way.

Annette's husband Amos of almost 54 years chose to continue to eat the way he did when they were first married. "I really wish I would have done what she did," he said.

Amos says people even wonder if Annette is his wife. "They will ask me 'what am I doing with a young girl? or they will say 'you've got your granddaughter with you,' things like that."

Amos takes prescription medicines daily for high blood pressure and diabetes. Annette says she does not even take an aspirin.

Annette says because friends and strangers kept asking her questions about her health and youthful appearance, she decided to publish two Journey To Health booklets, and she produced a DVD 12 years ago.

"The Discovery Channel, they took sections of the booklet and translated them into Spanish which is, by the way, my second language."

So how old is this size 4 beauty? Annette just turned 70-years-old.

Annette says friends her age see the difference in her quality of life. "This one lady who is my age, she was telling her friend, that I used to tell them about eating and they would not listen and her response to that was look at her now, and look at us."

Her husband says she is vibrant person. "She is an amazing person, she does everything. I mean she builds computers, makes all of her own clothes, grows her own food, speak three languages, it's amazing."

You can see some of her age in her neck, which makes me wonder if her face wrinkles have been smoothed out for the picture.

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

Sometimes it's the people who are remarkable, and not the health regimen. There's lots of vegans who don't look like that.

So what did the vegan do for the 70 year old hottie? ;)

Some things that affect appearance of aging..... diet, sunlight, stress, genetics, lifestyle choices ie alcohol and cigarette use, happiness level, general health, economic circumstances

I noticed that some of them have thin skin that is slightly off color to me...
I'd be interested in a study of mental deterioration rates in older vegetarians... I know if I don't get enough protein, not only is my body sluggish, but my brain too...

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

It could possibly be low B12.

B12 - gotta' have it. Made by one celled critters, concentrated up the food chain. B12 makes RNA and DNA, folate makes DNA in a pinch. Your body needs B12 to make proteins using RNA, your can use folate to make DNA for cell division.

If you don't get enough B12, your bone marrow, which is constantly making new white cells, red cells, and platelets, will switch over to using folate and your blood will look fine. But your brain, which makes proteins and neuroreceptors all the time using B12, but which is NOT dividing cells (much), will lack B12 for needed protein synthesis. Your neurons will sicken and die, and your brain will permanently deteriorate.

You either need to eat SOME meat at times, or take B12 vitamins if you are a vegan.

Maybe it is because of the amount of beta carotene that they eat from fruits and veggies and can result in skin discolouration. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carotenosis

Feh, if you have to supplement it in order to not die, it's not a "natural" diet - humans are opportunistic omnivores, although I think whatever the appropriate balance is differs somewhat genetically and culturally.

On the other hand, as I mocked an associate who is something of an "all-natural" fanatic with recently "petroleum occurs naturally too, but you wouldn't wanna eat it, would you ?"

Funny little recipe outta this, site three has a couple "decorative" fruit trees which I am allowed to raid to my hearts content cause the locals don't seem to regard anything that didn't come out of a supermarket package as 'food', and the downed fruit attracts critters...

So the last time I yoinked a couple little apples off the one near building ten, I got a thought from a book I was reading and tried my own crack-brained poor-mans variant - took a knife and cut out the core/seeds, then sprinkled a bit of brown sugar and cinnamon in there and dusted it around, followed by pounding a frozen link sausage through the middle of each and then baking them at 350F for a while - came out pretty good, no gourment pulled-pork stuffed apples, no, but quite tasty as a snack, indeed.

B12 is overrated. I haven't had to supplement for these 5-ish years.

Just gotta have a good mix of tasty.
