Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

A new app automatically reports potholes to the government. I don't know whether to be impressed or frightened at the amount of information going out into the 'verse about our daily activities.

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Then the question arises: "But do they give a shit about doing anything about it?" The potholes, I mean.

Well, I gotta hand it to the road crews around here - we decided not to fix the west end of one of the local main drags cause we cannot afford it (Thank you, Snyder you dick!) and cause the companies the State would allow to do it (Synder cronies) are all complete freakin crooks and like as not they'd make it worse and we'd still be out the money...

So the local road crews cadged up a truck full of that gritty black goop they shovel in as a better-than-nothing patch for potholes, and when I collected one of my flunkies from the hospital down that way I spotted them on the way back - since it wasn't completely and officially sanctioned they didn't have flaggers or signs and seemed to be doin the job by stickball rules - get on it when you can, and when you can't call "CAR!" and get the hell outta the way.

Now that may work with the low speed and light traffic that was goin at the time, but I really felt for them guys, all but playing frogger to try to patch in the worst of the potholes and the only official support they had was a blind eye to it...
Every little bit helps, but half this state is falling apart cause the damn Rethugs and their cronies loot every ounce of the budget they can reach and then point the finger everywhere else when the bill comes due - other than the blind, stupid faithful, everyone here is startin to have a lynch mob mentality regarding them, and it sure ain't helped when folks hit potholes that damage their rims or undercarriage and the State tells em to piss up a rope cause there's no money, while Snyder and his cronies live high on the hog.

If Habitat for Humanity didn't need this lumber so damn bad I'd be tempted to cull out some and build a pitchfork&torches stand.

We're doin okay on that front, between the Girl Scouts and the local Astaru, plus whatever locals pitch in, AND a program to teach ex-cons with the felony mark of doom construction skills in hopes they can maybe work around the death mark, we got the people power for this - one of the tricky things is getting supplies cheap since everyone is hurting for money thanks to the sucking sound our economy has become as the bastards at the top vaccuum us poor bastards dry...

Which is where yours truly comes in, as I've just processed a couple purchase orders for "ugly" lumber - stuff that's discolored, has knots, or other mostly cosmetic flaws that discourage it's sale commerically at typical hardware stores, and yes some of those flaws are more than cosmetic and you lose a certain percentage of it (but less than you think, if you're clever with your cuts) but overall nailing this stuff at bargain basement price is a coup, cause the folks who ain't gonna freeze their ass off in a shelter don't care whether the stuff is pretty or not, and once the drywall gets hung nobody is gonna be lookin at it anyways.

Governments ain't worth a damn, but yanno, a lot of people are.
