Say what you will about Rick Perry, but the man does have a singular ability to put his foot squarely in his mouth.

“Those who are going to be over 21 on November 12th, I ask for your support,” Perry said, eliciting a few chuckles from the crowd. "Those who won’t be, just work hard. Because you’re... counting on us.”

Amazing. He got the voting age AND the date of the next presidential election wrong, all in a single sentence!

I for one hope all his supporters really will show up and vote for him on Nov. 12th.

Every election cycle, we have people trying to play shenanigans on voters, telling them one group votes on Tuesday and their group votes on Wednesday, or some such. This is the first time I've seen a candidate try to spoof his own supporters in such a fashion, though.

Hello,

I think he must have been tired.

Really REALLY 'tired'?

I know, lame, but it was the first thing that came to mind.

He seems very, very tired most of the time lately. I wonder if he's suffering from "exhaustion", the way Hollywood celebs do when they're really in rehab.

Then again, maybe he's exhausted from doing drugs all the time...

Hello,

Well, I don't do much in life, and I often feel tired. I frequently say things that are senseless when tired.

There's no need to assume drug use just because he's not a favored political candidate.

As I say to people who bash Obama for ridiculous reasons... Do you really need to manufacture reasons to not like this guy? Isn't there enough material of substance out there?

A slip of the tongue, or even several, has nothing to do with the reasons he is a bad candidate for president. If you strip away all the mistakes and misstatements, leaving behind only what he intended to say, his platform remains of questionable value.

I escaped Texas a couple decades ago myself, by moving to Austin. If I had to leave this area, I'd put the entire state in my rearview mirror and never look back.

You got it, Anthony. Both him and Cain; their faux pas make headlines and get talked about for days, but it's already obvious neither is going anywhere.

He certainly doesn't need to be on drugs; his brain is apparently addled enough on its own.

And that all his supporters under 21 think they can't vote yet...

What I love about Rick Perry's continued gaffes and faux pas is that it not only finishes him as any kind of national politician, it's also doing a bang-up job of finishing him off here in Texas as well. The pure unadulterated idiocy that is Rick Perry simply cannot be ignored any longer, even by his own supporters (both of them).

Oh, that's lovely news! Given how he's "created" so many jobs that are minimum- or low-wage jobs which aren't enough to survive on, gotten RID of so many actual living-wage jobs, and so much more, it would be nice for Texas if he'd shot himself in the foot. But only if you can get someone BETTER--which might be tough, in Texas!
