Answers to all my other posts last night, but not this one I see....

Maybe it all made a little sense?

is you knowing you're completely right. I see.

Hubris:

extreme haughtiness, pride or arrogance. Hubris often indicates a loss of contact with reality and an overestimation of one's own competence or capabilities. wiki
See any similarities to your statement?

I know we're already there with overpopulation, I just don't accept your conclusion. We ARE big enough to avoid what's coming because of it far longer than most of the rest of the world, and I don't think it has anything to do with cutting off benefits HERE. I find your expectations highly dramatic for anything which will happen in my lifetime, or possibly ever, here in America. It is certainly going to get bad; I'm not so arrogant as to think I can predict how and when it will happen, is all.

As to third-world nations, I LIVED in one (Afghanistan) and can say with absolute certainty that you are talking through your hat. There is no comparison whatsoever between us and them; I know many are saying we're already there or we're going to get there, but it would take a lot more than you think you're seeing to make us anything like them. THEY are the ones who will feel the overpopulation horrors first; we'll be among the last. I might guess along with Canda, Australia, maybe even South America or parts of it.

There were problems with my sig previously, which others mentioned and I worked to correct. I asked at the time if anyone else was having any more problems with it and nobody else was, so I'm assuming you're the only one. If you're the only one, the problem isn't on my end.

I think I would qualify for hubris if I was posting like I do from my parent's basement. Or if I was posting these comments on an internet connection I couldn't afford on my credit card, while living in a house I couldn't afford and I was begging for money from the government to pay for my excesses.

I'll point out again that the fact that I played the game far better than anyone I know my age and most people I know twice my age states that I do indeed know a little bit what I'm talking about.

So, again, I reject your idea of hubris playing a factor here.

Why are you so sure we're "big enough" to weather any storm coming? You're always asking me for proof. I want to see what proof you have for that statement.

The way I see it, the only reason we've weathered the last 40 years is because we've run up a 13 trillion dollar credit card bill on the backs of the rest of the world, not to mention state, county and city deficits... and the also the huge individual credit debts from the good people who are too proud to file for bankruptcy.

In the last few months we've seen our credit rating as a nation dropped by one of the 3 bureaus for the first time ever and we almost witnessed a national government shut down (not for the first time, I admit). We've also started to get threats from the big boys in China about our leaders commenting about how they manipulate their own currency unfairly to give themselves an advantage over us financially.

Threats.....

From China.....

It's already begun.

I couldn't give two craps about you having lived in a "true" 3rd world country for a while.

The only advantage we have over Afghanistan when the printing press fails is that we have fertile land and not sand everywhere.

But....

Oh yeah.... how much of that fertile land have we been selling to foreign investors the last decade?

We don't live in a 3rd world nation now. I never said so.

We live in an over-self-indulgent, past-it's-prime, self-proclaimed superior nation which is very comparable to the end of the ancient Greek Empire.

Back then, wars were fought with chariots and swords.

Today, wars are fought with 1's and 0's......

We may have invented the 1's and 0's, but while we were all getting fat and watching American Idol, there were quite a few other countries learning how to better wield them than we have.

Seriously.....

This should be our nation's flag at this point

EDIT: BTW... something in your posts did this to me again. I know you say it's not you, but you're the only one I respond to that leaves my replies grayed out.

EDIT2: After removing the following, I don't have this problem with your posts anymore......

I replaced some "o"'s in "Font" with "0"s so you could see. I also put some "i"s in quotes as well. I'm sure you'll be able to figure out what the offending tags are.

Not sure what the problem is, but you should look into it.

BTW... I love my General Discussion Peeps. If you feel a strong need to judge me on RWED discussions I've had in the General Discussion, I welcome it, but I also say that they are two different worlds......

And while my core never wavers and though I may say things you don't like in the RWED, I'd never say them in General Discussions and I hope you would do the same.

The "offending tag" is the last image in the signature. Anyone who uses an image in their signature gets this if you quote their entire post. Simple solution? If you're the one quoting them, go back inside the close-quote brackets and just add a space, or a line. It allows the quote to close without trying to use the final part of the image tag.

If you're the user, and you want an image in your signature, try putting a line of text underneath it. Or even just a line of dashes or an underscore or something. It will help.
