This is not about semantics.

This is about distinguishing two very different concepts, which for some odd reason, you appear to be unable or unwilling to distinguish.

1. Vaccines cause autism.

2. Vaccines MAY BE a contributing factor in the development of one type of autism: regressive autism.

You accused me of #1, of being "stuck on vaccines" despite many other possible causes of autism.

My position is #2, which recognizes that autism is a heterogeneous disorder that almost certainly have many possible etiologies.

CTS,

Have you tracked down the cause? Is this SV-40 contamination?

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

No, of course CTS hasn't tracked down the cause.

DT, when diseases (such as pertussis, measles, rubella, EBV etc.) have a history of causing encephalopathy, does one HAVE to look very far to find a cause for vaccine-caused encephalopathy? Pertussis causes encephalopathy in 1 out of about 250 kids. The cellular vaccine does the same, but at a much lower rate. The acellular vaccine at an even lower rate still. The immune system is a powerful killer. It is potentially far more dangerous than any disease you could possibly acquire. We depend on our immune systems to target the invader and then stop. That means that the immune system has to reliably know self from non-self, to remember over long periods of time the nature of previous invaders, to kill cancer cells, to stay out of the brain (that's what the blood-brain barrier is for) and not to get mixed up. But the immune system screws up. Shit happens, yanno?

I personally cannot handle wheat. My body apparently can't tell the difference between gluten - a wheat protein- and my intestinal villi and my thyroid. That's why celiac disease causes malnutrition diseases such as anemia, and also Hashimoto's thyroiditis/ encephalitis.

The best line of investigation IMHO is not to find what's "wrong" with the vaccine per se, but to determine how it created a bad reaction. For example, is there a genetic component? Was the blood-brain barrier opened by stress? Does the practice of giving multiple vaccines cause an increase in reactions?

When you amp up the immune system you're messing with very powerful forces. Usually, vaccination is a helluvalot safer than the disease itself, but in some cases it is not. We need to figure out how to identify the exceptions to the rule.

If you are asking about the lady, I only talked to the lady a few times. She wanted my opinions whether there were any other options she didn't think of. I, or anyone else, couldn't help her. About a month later, I didn't hear from her again. I suspect she chose to move.

Are you asking me about the cause of autism? No, I don't know what the mechanisms are. I have suspicions, conjectures, and hypotheses, but none I wish to advance on this forum.

Here is the actual Wakefield paper if anyone cares to read it.

http://www.generationrescue.org/pdf/wakefield2.pdf

Quote:

We did not prove an association between measles,
mumps, and rubella vaccine and the syndrome described.
Virological studies are underway that may help to resolve
this issue.

If there is a causal link between measles, mumps, and
rubella vaccine and this syndrome, a rising incidence
might be anticipated after the introduction of this vaccine
in the UK in 1988. Published evidence is inadequate to
show whether there is a change in incidence or a link
with measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine. A genetic
predisposition to autistic-spectrum disorders is suggested
by over-representation in boys and a greater concordance
rate in monozygotic than in dizygotic twins.

We have identified a chronic enterocolitis in children
that may be related to neuropsychiatric dysfunction. In
most cases, onset of symptoms was after measles,
mumps, and rubella immunisation. Further investigations
are needed to examine this syndrome and its possible
relation to this vaccine.

Anyone who says he claimed MMR caused autism either did not read this paper or does not understand English if he/she did.
