But he did help subdue the gunman.

Saw this story somewhere else also-- I disagree with Slate's conclusion- in a situation where the armed guy could've made several bad mistakes, including shooting the wrong guy or being mistaken for a second gunman, this guy made the right calls and the right moves in a very few seconds.

Seems like the right thing would be armed citizens with a bunch of experience ( or maybe but not necessarily , a bunch of training. 'Cuz training indoctrinates the biases of the trainer.) with firearms, and a lot of respect for the risks of using deadly force. Not necessarily cops, either; their motivation, now, is to keep cops from getting shot.

Not sure how you'd go about getting that experience, either-- this guy says he was raised with guns, but was never in law enforcement or the military.

If you ain't got a clean shot, you don't take one, thems the rules.

Since he didn't have the shot, he did something else useful - I don't really understand why anyone would think to doubt a guys judgement over not having a clean shot, WHILE so many are screaming that all gun owners are crazy fuckwits, you know ?

I guess someone with a CCW making a rational decision doesn't fit within the way they prefer to view the world, reality notwithstanding.

^^^ What Frem said.

Guy doesn't take the shot because he doesn't have the shot, he's basically called a coward. If he DOES take the shot, he's accused of being a madman or a crazy idiot for firing into a crowd.

I'm with Mike. Also that anyone (like this) who has a gun but doesn't use it in such a situation is snagged by all anti-gun folk to say "see, it didn't do any good anyway!"

I heard the guy with the gun initially aimed at the guy who'd TAKEN THE GUN AWAY from the shooter, but stopped. If he'd been just a tiny bit more reactive, we'd have had one more death, and that of a hero, yes?

I don't trust far too many people with guns; it would be nice if everyone was cool-headed enough to "do it right", but that will never be the case.

Too many nuts HAVING too many guns. Crazies are bad enough, but can't do the amount of damage they do and have done repeatedly in this country without "weapons of mass destruction", which they do.

Good thing no cops were at Giffords' Massacre, or the body count of innocent bystenders woulda been higher.

At Columbine High school Hell, the sheriff deputies gunned down kids trying to escape the kosher homosexuals shooting Christians.

That's why Uncle Scam calls its homicidal employees "trigger pullers". They're brainwashed not to think, just shoot to kill. Ask the millions of dead Iraqis...oh you cant, theyre dead.

Cursed insomnia has me returning to RWED. Anyway, my theory is that people just want an easy answer. They're angry, confused and scared and don't like that Loughner's still alive. Loughner needs help, now I'm not saying he doesn't need to pay for what he's done, but he obviously needs some kind of psychological help, and since he's still alive it's something we have to think about. What created him and what do we do about it? Why can't he have just disappeared?

Also, we share guilt in a sense, as we feel culturally responsible for pushing him over the edge (despite the fact that we have no evidence our politics had a role in this). I think that's mostly our collective conscience talking, we're finally starting to feel bad about some of the vitriol we hurl about. Of course, people don't like to admit to that in public, so they try and make a group not themselves look bad to divert attention.

Anyway, that's just my honest half thought out insomniac guess.

Hello,

Cite this. I have a long-standing interest in this event. If you are speaking truths and not vomiting forth the madness of your broken mind, please give me the data.

Sorry about the insomnia; that’s something from which I’ve almost never suffered, and can’t imagine how people who suffer it can function! I don’t get at least 7½ hours, I’m a walking corpse!

Well, that won’t happen, except by scientists and psychologists. Americans would rather have the quick answer, as you said, an won’t think about their own part in it for shit.

I don’t believe that. I think it’s PC to speak up about it right now, getting on the bandwagon as it were, and that the rest who are speaking up are those who’ve hated it all along, and didn’t speak up before...along with those who HAVE been speaking up and getting called all kinds of names for doing so!

Shall we take bets on how long people avoid the violent rhetoric? No takers? I’m not surprised! Will be fun to watch and see, tho’, bet it doesn’t take long...if it hasn’t already begun.

As to Columbine deputies gunning down kids, I’m betting it’s the usual PN bullshit. I can’t find anything about it, so unless he wants to post a cite—a RELIABLE one—-I’m not buying it. Nor do I buy that if there’d been police at the most recent massacre, that the body count would have been less. Just PN, vomiting shit as usual...

kosher homosexuals shooting Christians
...as I said, the usual we get from him, coming from his world of ugly fantasy where everyone bad is a homosexual, Jew, etc. Long ago got too to be worth noticing.

Yup, it's bullshit:
Quote:

Cassie's Christian martyrdom not only did not happen, what really happened was exactly opposite. The shooters were not targeting Christians. A Christian was not killed for professing their faith, but a Christian that professed faith was spared.

Cassie's myth came from one Christian student. He apparently heard Valeen Schnurr talking with one of the shooters. Valeen's story has now appeared in the Denver Post.

Valeen was bleeding from 34 shotgun pellets. She was down on her hands and knees saying, "Oh, my god, my god, don't let me die." One of the shooters then asked her if she believed in god. Valeen said yes. He asked why. "Because I believe and my parents brought me up that way," Valeen responded. The shooter reloaded, but did not shoot Valeen again.

It's all over the internet how the story of the girl who said she believed in God was then killed, and how it's a myth and never happened. There's more info on that site, and it's easy to find tons of other places where the "Christian" thing has been debunked. It's just convenient for PN, nothing more.
