America loves a winner!

House democrats gave Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY) a standing ovation today after his censure and speech on the House floor.

I watched the Censure, I should have taped it then added a laugh track.

That's disgusting. I remember that Republican involved in a sex scandal who got a standing ovation from THAT side of the aisle when he returned. They are all pathetic hypocrites.

I get that he's been there forever and has probably done some good things...but it's still stupid and a typically political move, to me.

Hello,

How bizarre. Perhaps I misunderstand what a Censure is.

Keep the Shiny side up

It was interesting that in D.C. the local NBC affiliate's news didn't show - and hardly mentioned - the censure, but cut into news coverage to show Rep. Rangel's response live.

Anthony, how so? Who remarked in any way that Censure was anything but what it is? I'm just confused.

Wikipedia: "a process by which a formal reprimand is issued to an individual by an authoritative body. In a deliberative assembly, a motion to censure is used. In politics, censure is an alternative to more serious measures against misconduct or dereliction of duty."

The concept that people should give a standing ovation to someone who has just been censured by the legislature is hypocritical, in my view. I finally remembered who got the standing ovation when he'd done something reprehensible was: David Vitter. Equally hypocritical.

Politics = hypocrisy, far too frequently.
