Yep, Obama's hand picked guy. Came out and declared that we have to drastically cut spending or we are going to be broke. Even with tax increases the debt will continue to skyrocket. This is not good for this administration. It confirms what the tea party has been screaming about for months, entitlements and big government are sinking this country.

"BOSTON -- Did you know that our government only has enough money to pay for Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid? That we borrow to pay for education, defense, roads, research and absolutely everything else? That $920 billion of the money we borrow comes from China? That if we continued on autopilot, by 2020 we would be paying $1 trillion a year in interest on our debt?

These startling statistics were presented by Alan Simpson and Erskine Bowles, co-chairmen of the Bipartisan Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, at a governors meeting here Sunday. The grim numbers were only slightly less alarming than the political picture – ideologues without facts, partisans without flexibility, and a commission without much authority to force hard choices on the nation and its leaders."

This story was covered last nite on some cable shows. On one hand it gives me cause for great concern, considering Obama's hand-picked Democrat spoke the words, but on the other hand not so much concern.

For all this doom & gloom being predicted out there, from hyper-inflation destroying the US Dollar, to un-sustainable debt and interest, I find myself curiously not worried.

I'm not worried because Wall Street and monied people don't seem concerned. They're going to suffer far more than I if either doomsday scenario plays out in the future. When you don't have much, you don't have much to lose.

So which defense projects would you recommend cutting? After all, it is by far the largest discretionary spending part of the federal budget. Heck, we could cut our military spending by half and still have the biggest military in the world.

Let's cut military spending and put that money towards paying down the debt!

Hello,

The rate at which we spend money has been alarming me since before the 2008 election, when such alarm was one of the primary motivators for backing Ron Paul and his fiscally frugal policies.

Ending two wars and stopping our occupation of allied territories would go a long way towards reducing our yearly shortfall. However, there are some things we can't undo.

The only self-corrective mechanism in capitalism is that bad businesses fail. We have invested a lot of money to prevent that. I'd have rather seen the money spent elsewhere. Not only was bailing out the banks a bad idea (says the man who works for a bank) but it communicated something dangerous to the businesses of the nation. Essentially, that it's possible to reach an 'I Win' critical mass where you are considered so indispensable to the country that no mistake you make will result in your failure.

We are a nation that spends well above our means, and when things get tight, we double-down. No one of any political affiliation can possibly believe that such behavior can continue indefinitely. At some point, rules of money will be badly broken in order to escape our failed policies. Probably we will create whatever amount of money is necessary to ameliorate the situation. This amounts to a tax upon everyone.

This is actually fine, as long as every country inflates at the same rate. But I don't think that is particularly likely. Instead, the value of our money will decline in relation to other nations. Look for 5 dollar loaves of bread at Walmart in a couple years. 20 dollars in 10 years. And meanwhile, don't look for pay raises that will match inflation.

There won't be any.

This is, of course, just my opinion.
