I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

And again, how much of that is due to lifestyle choices which are outside the control of the medical system?
But under the control of either the government or the corporations... or both.

For example: fast food. Did you know that fast food activates the same dopamine and endorphin systems as cocaine and opium, and causes what looks like addiction (neurologically-speaking)?

Did you know that fresh whole food is almost impossible to buy in ghettos, and that working women are so pressed they don't have time to cook?

So things like work-hours, vacation time, poverty, lack of education (the average reading ability in Folsom Prison is 3rd grade), the physical infrastructure generated by cars and "white flight", and so forth tend to impose "choices" on people by limiting their options significantly.

But business screams bloody murder if they're even forced to post their nutrition information, let alone switch from transfats to unmodified fats.

BTW- Did you know that health insurances are MAJOR investors in fast food?

All of this is what I think of as people being treated as so much corporate cannon-fodder, and it makes people sick, it really does.

Oh come now Mikey, you know what a damn slippery slope *that* is, since the Gov idea of an 'incentive' is more like outlaw-by-default, abuse of tax law, and various kind of screwery that DOES amount to forcing people.

Also, Siggy's post above is an important factor, our current system and structure of corporate employment works people to death, and the stress caused by it is IMHO, a major contributor in a damned lot of health issues, and that's just flat out medical, and doesn't begin to address how psychologically damaging that is - especially when your children are considered a liability by the company and the pressure about it gets so strong the employee begins to also see their own children as a liability to their career.

I am in the process of pounding it through the thick skull of one of our more recent hires that we - as in we-the-company, are HAPPY that he's a father, and entirely supportive of him and his family about it - he's been a good employee and piss on the corporate empires, WE respect loyalty and repay in kind.

That's one ugly baby though, but then they all look like Boss Hogg to me anyways...
