Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

Recently in another thread, Frem described some prototype weaponry that operated on directed energy or magnetic principles.

I wanted to create a space to talk about such weapons.

I also had a specific question... Has anyone heard of research on magnetic weapons that use bismuth, and its diamagnetic properties, as a projectile?

Thanks,

Hello,

Additionally, has anyone done any work with solenoid driven projectiles? That is, not a coilgun, but rather a solenoid fired projectile weapon where a solenoid impacts a projectile and propels it. I understand that a solenoid can generate tens of newtons of force, and I imagine that such a force could propel a light projectile formidably, such as a dart.

Not so much, Anthony, from what I understand, after they got done laughing at me, the energy loss makes that concept very inefficient.

Although some nailguns actually DO work that way.
http://home.howstuffworks.com/nail-gun1.htm

A long while back there was also a dude (other than Ritter, who also did) experimenting with the gyrojet principle, which was always problematic due to piss poor machining, bad rounds, and low initial muzzle velocity.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyrojet

What he did was use a slightly larger round and as a "primer" used a .22LR Rimfire, which would give the projectile an inital muzzle velocity of about 400fps, which climbed radically to about 1400fps around 35-40 feet or so, but given the rabidity of the "Batfuckers" (i.e. BATFE) his work is anything but public, as you can well imagine, since technically a gyrojet projectile is a "destructive device" requiring a $200.00 USD Tax Stamp (Read: bribe) EACH and would thus make public experimentation impossible.

And while not a weapon, per se, there are currently various projects regarding certain exploits and weaknesses to the ADS Pain Ray, given what the obvious intention and purpose of the fucking thing is, despite all those denials and the morons who bought that load of shite.

Taserproof jackets are out, and available, but you'll have to do your own digging and of course, obvious gov drones get scammed deliberately, mind.

One reason the geekfarm has restricted any public output of HERF devices, beyond certain trustworthy folk in DepHomeSec (there ARE some folk in that dept who do it right, and we have good relations with them as concerns DTW, since nobody round here wants a blown up airliner landing on their house, unless they're upside down on the mortgage ) is because everybody with half a brain knows it would wind up in the hands of so-called "law enforcement" personnel who can NOT be trusted with such things, given how rabidly they abused the Taser...

You can just see it, right ?

Sitting across the street from some activist they don't like, firing their HERF through his house, over, and over, and over... with no proof and not having to account for it whatsoever ?

And being that human health effects from the damn things have not yet been fully researched, not to mention what that'd do to all of someones electronics - would YOU trust the blue suited mafia cartel with something like this ?

Conversely, there's also experimentation with "hardened" electronics and various shielding against HERF weapons, which we are also not inclined to share at this time, because while it has obvious military applications, given the very high possibility that the next target of the active duty military is gonna be our own citizens, fucked if we're gonna give up one of the few edges we have against a military so technologically dependant they're all but helpless when their toys don't work.

It comes down to a matter of trust, really...

Would you REALLY want development of this stuff picked up by a military-industrial complex who's first thought is to give it to the SWAT goons and current US Army on domestic deployment potentially against US ?

Fuck that, I want it in OUR hands, as a check against that very behavior.

There's some far out stuff on defence as well. British tanks are set to be protected by an electrical 'forcefield'

There's the US Navy's up and coming Railgun concept as well.

Oh how very amusing, apparently the powers that be want their own GeekFarms, workin for THEM!

They don't seem to understand that because of their very NATURE, these kind of folk are anti-government to a degree which no amount of money is gonna surmount.

Just ask any geek or hacker worth their salt what they think of DRM, or Vista, or Vehicle EDRs, or RFID - and watch them go foaming at the mouth berserk.

And then try to picture these guys happily inflicting it on others ?

Sure, they'll get some people, and what they'll get is well dressed ass kissers from technical "schools" which teach passing tests via memorised buzzwords, who've never gone hands-on in their life despite all that paper, do NOT understand how shit works, and cringe at the very concept of original thought.

Up against folks like Kevin Mitnick, BernieS, C0mrade JJ, Dante, Se7en, Captain Midnight, N0mad, and so *many* others who are often enough backed up by folk with people and organisational "hacking" skills like yours truly.

And it sure didn't help when an american corporation tried using retroactive copyright scheming to try and fuck with Linus Torvalds - and here's a hint folks, when Finland threatens to kick your ass, THEY ARE NOT KIDDING, just ask the Russians.

Threatening Torvalds is to hackers, what threatening God would be to Christians, and since the US Government made what side of that it was ever and permanently on quite plain - no hacker worth the name is EVER gonna work for em other than using them and their gullible stupidity to wipe out their rivals and competitors.

Hey Frem,

Thanks for looking into it. :-)

Have you heard anything about a diesel gun? Using the exhaust of a diesel piston reaction to propel a projectile? I understand that there are many flammables that will ignite under high-speed compression.
