Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Yep - Cuomo was responsible for the really high density, high interaction, broad areal coverage of NYC. Plus the very limited testing. Sure. Whatever.

Meanwhile, old people in NYS were FAR better protected under Cuomo than old people were under DeWine, who managed to kill 4X as many per COVID death as Cuomo.

How DID DeWine manage that, I wonder? Do you think he targeted old people in particular?

See? You can't sustain a fact-based discussion and you quickly default to trolling and name-calling, right JACKass? And you claim ** I ** start it!

NYC is a unique place unlike anywhere else in the US.

The REST of NYS which is a lot more like the rest of the country did exceptionally well compared to everywhere else.

But if you want to continue to claim Cuomo was responsible for a high percent of deaths coming from nursing homes AS YOU'VE BEEN DOING, then you need to explain DeWine's 4X higher death rate failure in his republican paradise.

Or, abandon your argument, change the topic, ignore reality, AND TROLL.

As always.

I have no idea what the fuck you're talking about with Ohio.

Cuomo trapped the sick and the elderly together and killed them by the thousands.

Fuck your gaslighting strawman. I don't play your bullshit games.

And as for calling you names, boo fucking hoo. You never quit. This doesn't just reset every day because you say so.

Then why did you pretend to respond?
Quote:

Cuomo trapped the sick and the elderly together and killed them by the thousands.
The majority of deaths came BEFORE that policy, not after. And despite the policy, NYS has only ~23% of all COVID-19 deaths coming from nursing homes, while the national average is 42% and Ohio's is 82%. Cuomo did something really right and protected a LOT of elderly people compared to say ... DeWine. And DeWine did something really wrong.

Unlike you, I've provided lots of links from lots of 'sources' in lots of threads, including for these facts. I'm sorry you can't come to grips with reality.

You've become nothing but a troll, JACK. ALL you do - and I mean that literally - is insult, demean, namecall, change the topic, strawman, lie, and of course post every unsupported agendoid 'fact' in the book. You contribute NOTHING that's on-point, on-topic, well-supported, and logical, to any discussion.
You've become a mockery of yourself.
And you did it to yourself.

32% of 32,570 = 10,423 dead old people from homes in NYS
82% of 3,178 = 2,605 dead old people from homes in Ohio

Looks like 4 times as many dead old people from homes in NYS than in Ohio.

I don't know. It sounds like a pretty stupid thing to even argue about. Dead people are dead people. And there is a whole lot more of them dead in New York.

But as you said, NYS is different than anywhere else in the country.

(Which is an argument I've made in the past that you completely ignored when it didn't suit your own agenda).

There could be 1,000 different explanations for why the spread killed a greater percentage of old folks in homes in Ohio than in NYS.

Maybe one of them is that mostly only old people die of it, and NYS was busy throwing every single cause of death that wasn't Coomph related into the Coomph bucket where Ohio didn't do that and their numbers actually reflect reality.

What I said was NYC is different from anywhere else in the country. CITY is different from STATE.

I'm not going to respond because you can't make an accurate(honest?) argument.

But I WILL point out that in NYS as of the 17th there were a total of 25,056 deaths, and 6,494 were from nursing homes or assisted living facilities, for a percentage of 26% of all deaths coming from those places.

As Trump Ignores Virus Crisis, Republicans Start to Break Ranks
President Trump continues to press for a quick return to life as usual, but Republicans who fear a rampaging disease and angry voters are increasingly going their own way.
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/19/us/politics/republicans-contradict-
trump-coronavirus.html?referringSource=articleShare

“President Trump’s failure to contain the coronavirus outbreak and his refusal to promote clear public-health guidelines have left many senior Republicans despairing that he will ever play a constructive role in addressing the crisis, with some concluding they must work around Mr. Trump and ignore or even contradict his pronouncements.”

That's the problem. We are so far in right-field that people lose track of the reality of American politics.

The GOP doesn't have any conservatives left. The DNC is the party comprised of conservatives with a few progressives here and there. The GOP is only neo-confederates and regressive facists now.

Thanks to 6ix for posting some numbers in this discussion, which seem to relate to reality.

So, 22,142 non-nursing home dead in NY.
And 573 non-nursing home dead in OH.

kiki, did you give your login password to second or thuggery?

Why you would claim that 22,142 dead is far better than 573 dead, let alone 4 times better, is confusing. Perhaps your Libtard Maths abacus has a broken rung or more.

If you want to talk about NYC, please specify your definition. NYC Metropolitan Area, which includes several states? Or NYC proper, just the 5 boroughs?

With population of 8.3 Million for NYC, and 19.8 million for NY, and 11.7 million for OH, your wild claims look downright preposterous.

Can anybody other than kiki explain why NY should be held as a model of positive performance, either the city or state? Compared to OH, which really seems to be closer to the model many should be striving for. Not as good as FL, tho.

Do you understand ratios at all?

If I have 1 million people and 100 die of a disease, 0.01% have died from that disease.

If I have 100 people and 100 die of a disease, 100% have died from that disease.

Even though 100 people have died in both examples, in the first case the disease seems to affect the population hardly at all. In the second case, the disease exterminated the entire population! I'd say the second case was worse than the first - wouldn't you? Or, if that question is too theoretical for you - would you rather be in a population where hardly anybody dies of a disease, or in a population where everybody dies of a disease?

NYC (City) is a unique COVID-19 example in the US, because of its size, density, and interconnectedness ... as well as the timing of COVID-19, before there was any level of testing, or experience with effective prevention, or experience with effective treatment.

However, because it's hard getting data re NYC compared to NYS (State); because Cuomo is the governor of NYS (State) and not NYC (City); and since I'm comparing NYS (State) (an entire state) to Ohio (an entire state) (ie apples to apples); I used NYS (State) figures.

So overall, due to its unique circumstances, NYS had a lot of deaths compared to other states, mostly driven by NYC numbers. DESPITE all the issues surrounding NYC, and DESPITE the order that SUPPOSEDLY targeted people in nursing homes and care facilities, of all the people who died in NYS, only 26% came from those facilities.

Whereas in Ohio, 70% of deaths came from those facilities.

If one is going to criticize Cuomo for his policies that SUPPOSEDLY put old people in care facilities at SPECIAL risk compared to everyone else in NYS - one should 4X criticize DeWine who did a 4X worse job protecting those people. Because, why were old people at such a tremendous risk in Ohio compared to the overall level of infection and death in the general population?

I hope that clears up your mental confusion which seems considerable!

BTW, I can think of many reasons why old people in Ohio fared so much worse compared to the general population in a republican paradise - and it could be due to pre-existing general lax standards and enforcement* in those types of care facilities. Yanno - trusting business to do what it wants to do, which is making the most money possible, and turning a blind eye to anything else. And already having written off the old and helpless as not being worth any extra co$$t for protection$$.

(ie - personnel standards, training, established procedures their documentation and its availability, level of overall care requirements, staffing levels, infection control, general care procedures, available PPE, outsourcing and availability of critical functions etc)

“Slow the testing down,” Trump said, and it’s happening.

Trump himself explained the strategy a month ago at his Tulsa rally: When you expand testing, he declared, “you’re going to find more cases, so I said to my people, ‘Slow the testing down, please.’”

A fascinating Times post-mortem on Trump’s failed coronavirus response helps us understand what happened.
www.nytimes.com/2020/07/18/us/politics/trump-coronavirus-response-fail
ure-leadership.html

And I do mean post-mortem: Americans are dying of Covid-19 at a rate eight times that in Canada, 10 times that in Europe.
www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/07/19/coronavirus-us-failure/

The Times account makes it clear that the Trump team never seriously considered trying to deal with the pandemic’s reality. It also makes it clear, however, that officials convinced themselves back in April that they were getting away with this abdication of responsibility, that the coronavirus was going away.

And by the time they realized that the virus wasn’t playing along with their political games, it was too late to hide the truth.

At this point it’s not even clear what purpose obstructing testing is supposed to serve. The attempt to engineer an economic boom before the election has already failed, as reopened states are reversing course. And Trump has already squandered all credibility on the coronavirus; even if the numbers on reported cases suddenly started to look much better, who besides his hard-core supporters would believe them?

So this doesn’t look like a political strategy as much as an attempt to soothe the boss’s fragile ego. Trump keeps insisting, falsely, that the only reason we’re seeing so many cases is too much testing, so his aides are trying to mollify him by holding testing down.

And if this cripples America’s pandemic response, making a test-trace-isolate strategy impossible, well, actually dealing with the virus was never part of the plan.

"As we just heard, even though most face masks make lip reading harder or cover a smile, we've been told again and again to wear them because wearing a mask lowers the chances that you will spread COVID-19 to others. But a growing body of evidence suggests that the opposite is also true. That is wearing a mask might protect you, too. Here to walk us through the research is Dr. Monica Gandhi, an infectious disease specialist at the University of California, San Francisco."

Hmm. Should I listen to experts who study this stuff, or some dipshit who never finished high school?

You've been wearing a mask when your alone in your mom's basement fapping to animal porn for the last 20 years.

What the fuck do you care?

Whereas in Ohio, 70% of deaths came from those facilities.

kiki posting more Fake Math multiples, without foundation data:
one should 4X criticize DeWine who did a 4X worse job protecting those people. Because, why were old people at such a tremendous risk in Ohio compared to the overall level of infection and death in the general population?

More baseless opinionating, from the Fake Maths:
BTW, I can think of many reasons why old people in Ohio fared so much worse compared to the general population in a republican paradise - and it could be due to pre-existing general lax standards and enforcement* in those types of care facilities.

From the only numbers provided in this discussion (by 6ix), we see that 2,605 nursing home deaths out of OH population of 11.7 million equals 22.3 per 100,000.
And 10,423 nursing home deaths out of NY population of 19.8 million equals 52.6 per 100,000.

In kiki's universe, killing off twice as much old folk in NY compared to OH is a far better solution to saving lives.

And 573 non-nursing home deaths in OH, gives us 4.9 per 100k.
With 22,147 non-nursing home deaths in NY, gives us 111.9 per 100k.

In kiki's universe, killing off 22 times the general population in NY compared to OH is the far better solution for saving lives.

Perhaps kiki's bias is showing, with NY being a Libtard Democrat shithole and OH being (according to her) a Republican Paradise.

When did you decide to abandon facts and logic and become a troll, JSF?

The facts are plain, but you seem intent on ignoring reality in favor or trolling.

JACK's contention is very clear: he claims that Cuomo TARGETED nursing home/ care home patients with EXTRA RISK COMPARED TO EVERYONE ELSE.

But COMPARED TO EVERYONE ELSE, nursing home/ care home patients were twice as protected in NYS as the national average, and 4X better protected than in Ohio. Cuomo did a lot that was far more protective of that population than elsewhere.

The facts are extremely simple, common sense, and easy to understand.

Can you deal with facts? Or will you continue to troll?

Wow. You trumptards must be devastated.

Sorry reaver. I can’t see myself promoting anything being reported on by an entity calling itself the DeadState. The DeadState focusses on the absurdity and triumphs of people, politics, current events, religion, and the overall human condition from an unapologetically secular progressive perspective.

Careful reaver. The far left is every bit a danger to democracy as the far right. And both are equally unhinged. America needs to remain a work in progress. The far right would destroy that through authoritarianism, while the left would destroy it by completely dismantling capitalism. They want everything to happen now; today, and they really do believe America’s resources are limitless.

I remember Bernie Sanders health care would cost 10 trillion dollars more in ten years than the money he could take from the rich to pay for it. When that came to light his bid for the presidency ended. The same happened to Warren because she stubbornly held onto that. With the economy the way it is today. And the overwhelming debt accruing in our cities; the trillions in bailouts from Washington, we are left with little to work with. An approach from the middle leaning slightly left is the needed methodology.
