In many Silee fics I have read, there is a relative of Kaylee's names Mac.
Is this an inside joke, or did I miss something in the series/movie? (Not bloody likely)

Hmm...nah, blackbeanie....just something an author dreamt up and and other authors decided to use as the name for Kaylee's older brother or relative. Kinda like multiple people using "Deadwood" for the name of Jayne's home planet, even though there's no canonical evidence of Jayne's home planet being named, or making Zoe a spacer kid when all we got is one line from "Heart of Gold" that seems to indicate she grew up on a ship

No, you didn't miss anything, Mac it would seem is a author imagined character, as there was no mention of him in the series or the movie, or even any of the peripheral(sp) comics or other things that I've seen.
