Freedom is Important because People are Important

My Mom copied this article, which appeared in the Herald:

"Back to the future

It turns out that having a network drop the ax on your favorite TV series isn't really a good enough reason to give up on the show.
At least that's what an AMC Aventura theater full of Browncoats -- fans of the 2002 Fox series Firefly -- learned Thursday night during an early screening of Serenity, the movie set six months after the series' final episode.

Writer-director Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel) is trying to create buzz by showing an unfinished version of the film, which he was able to produce only after fans formed a ''Can't stop the signal'' campaign and made the boxed DVD set of all 14 episodes a top seller. In an introduction to the action-packed film, Whedon thanked fans for their support and asked them to spread the word about the movie -- or keep quiet if they didn't like it. Judging from the raucous applause throughout the showing, he has little to worry about.

The movie, which follows a crew of a spaceship 500 years in the future, is expected to land in theaters Sept. 30.

Really bad errors in that article. Can't Stop the Signal Campaign is a Universal thing not a Browncoat thing. Someone should write to the Herald and let them know of their mistakes.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

These aren't critical errors so I say a nice "Thank you" is more in order. Why turn off good publicity?

Edited to add that I decided to do this myself. Just sent a thank you e-mail to the editor for the kind words about our BDM and the Browncoats.

Good idea MSCKaren,
I think I'll do the same.
You know what they say, any publicity is good publicity. While that's not always true (people say lots of things that aren't true) in our case, just mentioning the name of the movie is a good thing. So when the trailer FINALLY hits the small screen people will think, "Oh, this is that movie I read that article about..hmm..looks interesting". And then they'll see it and take all their friends. And our BDHs will become BDMS (big damn movie stars).

I just REALLY wish I could have gone to the screening. It's TORTURE having to wait another 4 months.

PR-are you serious?!? If I don't get tickets for that one, I will cry. Like a cranky two year old at a toy store who didn't get the loud, obnoxious toy they spent 20 minutes begging for.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Agreed MSCKaren. No need to bite the hand that is helping us. We can use all the good press we can get from here on out.

Shiny idea sending the thank you email too MSCKaren. Great to see they already responded.

I just checked my email-no response for me yet, I hope I get a shiny letter, too.

I've written several letters of this sort to various things. At first, it was hard, it felt weird and I felt rather stupid. But it gets easier, you get positive feedback most of the time and, really, I think people LIKE hearing our voices, no matter what it is.

So, yeah to MSCKaren for stepping up to the plate, and yeah to all the other Browncoats out there who are taking positive action.
