Though I just can't bring myself to ever live completely off grid and be virtually homeless, and with my recent chronic illnesses that will never be cured it has become an impossibility, I did the next best thing way before it was cool.

I did what I needed to do to say goodbye to the rat-race by my early 30's.

I might be smarter than your average Bear, but I didn't get any degrees. I feel zero pity for anybody in college "educated" households making over 6 figures a year in America that are living paycheck to paycheck in BidenflationLand. Even with the higher prices on everything, I'm living on far less than $10k per year.

Stop buying shit you don't need. Figure it out.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

It's called "homesteading" and it's nothing new. It's achievable until you get sick, or old, or both. Or heavily pregnant, and there are complications of childbirth.

BTW, people who claim to be independeent... really aren't. Unless you smelt your own iron, forge and smith your own axes, spades, saws, and nails, spin your own thread and weave your own cloth, fell your own trees and saw your own wood, drill your own oil and make your own engines, melt sand to make your own window glass, fabricate your own chips and wind your own transformers etc... at SOME point you need some of that filthy lucre to start your homesteading project. And you'll probably need SOME of that filthy lucre to sustain your homestead.

Maybe you get it by selling things to your neigbors for example. You may be free of government but you'll never be independent of society.

Don't get me wrong: I think people should be as self-reliant as possible. I see a lot of young people with too much energy and not enough to do waste their time on turf wars or social media while living on Popeye's or egg-a-muffin. Grow some vegetables, raise some chickens, learn small engine repair or how to make moonshine or handyman skills or bake bread... anything you can do to be more self-reliant.

Yup.

My step-dad once told me "no man is an island".

The Amish had pretty much figured it out. But that's a whole community of skilled people who do nothing much but work all day, every day. And I don't know much about the Amish community, but I'd be really surprised if they were even self-sufficent themselves in 2023 anymore.

Remember CHAZ? That was humorous watching a bunch of dumb white kids take over a city mile and think they were going to "live off the land". The best was when they put dirt on cardboard on top of the concrete and thought they were going to grow their own vegetables to supplement the daily intake of Papa Johns they were eating by begging college educated white people to send them money on Go Fund Me.

This is also why the true PTB don't ever want to escalate to all out nuclear war. They need slaves to do all the work for them. They just don't need 8 Billion of them, so they're looking into alternative methods like releasing 2 Billion mosquitos that have the malaria "vaccine" in them. Surprise, surprise when we end up getting cases of malaria popping up after that was released.

That was just a trial run for something much more dubious.

It kind of sucks that after about 30 years of never being bit by a mosquito, something in my blood/skin has changed and now I get mosquito bites again.

Yeah, the guy in the video...

Commercially -sawn planks and industrially-produced chicken wire, and corrugated metal roof. A plastic chicken waterer. I'll bet they have a resin or stainless cistern for rainwater.

And golfing? Making videos? Selling the idea of homesteading because it's rewarding and satisfying? That guy, he has something serious cash behind him. Homesteading is hard work. Hell, all I have is a suburban plot and I couldn't possibly keep up with turning it into a mini-farm.

I dunno, maybe he makes his $$ selling videos on homesteading.

That's the thing right there, innit?

The mere fact that the guy has a youtube channel and uploads videos about being completely off the grid contradicts itself to the core.

Unless you're insanely skilled in many different disciplines and you've got others who are going to work with you to make it happen, you're never going to be able to live completely off-grid... Especially without money.

Land ownership is a thing. You can't just go in the middle of a forest somewhere and set up a house for yourself without owning that land. I mean, you could, but that's not very good planning for the future and your own piece of mind when you know in the back of your head that at any moment in time somebody could bulldoze all your work and have 100% legal authority to do it.
