If he were not known as a world famous drummer musician. Could have also made it as a covers band singer. Hawkins said that his drumming was chiefly influenced by classic rock drummers, including Phil Collins of Genesis, Stewart Copeland of The Police, Budgie of Siouxsie and the Banshees, Roger Taylor of Queen, Stephen Perkins of Jane's Addiction, Ringo Starr of the Beatles, Jim Gordon of Derek and the Dominos, and Neil Peart of Rush. Also good enough to play piano, guitar.

I always liked the Foo Fighters.

50 is young man. That's a damn shame to hear.

Didn't know who he was or about Foo Fighters, but I looked him/them up

What a shame.

Multi-talented musician, amazing stage presence, gigawatt smile.

Way too young to die.

Well Dave Grohl was the drummer from Nirvana and later was the lead guitarist and singer for the Foo Fighters, and I'm sure you've heard of Nirvana.

The first big hit Foo Fighters had was when I was in high school.

This is a Call was released before Big Me, but I don't think anybody took them seriously until the "Footos" video came out. At least I don't remember it that way around me.

Lost a lot of the big rock stars from my high school days already. :(

Not knowing anything about him or the group, it was (IMHO) that gigawatt smile that made him stand out from most other performers. He really looked like he was ENJOYING what he was doing.

But I guess he wasn't as happy as he looked. They found 10 psychoactive substances in his bloodstream including antidepressants, marijuana, and anti-anxiety drugs.

Not that those were cause of death. The problem with those screening tests is that they're incredibly sensitive: you can eat a poppyseed roll and test positive for opioids a week later, or be in a room where someone is smoking marijuana and test positive for THC days later, or take a decongestant and test positive for speed days later. (One of my friends at work, the guy who just passed away, used to do toxicology tests for Rancho Los Amigos).

So they would have to do quantitative analyses for all of those substance to see if they were at therapeutic or toxic levels, and that requires a lot more time and QC.

Still, it's a shame that he seemed to need to tweak his mood so deeply. Someone should have told him "Man, you e got a wife and kids and enough money to live in for the rest of your life. Take a break. Chill out. Don't let this become your life."

One possibly is that he died of Covid. They should test for that, too. Unless he had the arteries of an 89-year-old (which they will look at on autopsy. Plaque and blood clots are clearly visible) it doesn't seem reasonable that a 50-year old in good shape should die of a heart attack.

If he had a problem, I'm sure a lot of people told him that. Unless you've ever struggled with addiction, you really couldn't possibly understand it. Really, once you've gone down that path I don't even believe there's any way that you can ever get over old addictions without substituting them with lesser addictions. Trent Reznor of NIN talked about his struggles with heroin and when he'd come out of it and sober up he drank obscene amounts of coffee to fill that void.

Once you start filling your life with substances, there really is no coming back from it. Having a family and seeming to everyone else around you like you've got it made isn't going to change that. All you can really do is try to replace your old and harmful addictions with smaller and more manageable ones that aren't destructive to yourself and the people you care about.

The world pretty much sucks right now too, and has for a few years. Who knows how easily it could be to trigger somebody into falling back into those really bad addictions even if they've gone years without relapsing into them.

Such a small possibility that it's not even worth discussing.

Maybe. But my impression of drug addictions is that people usually get addicted to one thing (alcohol, crack, fentanyl), or essentially the same thing (oxycodone, heroin) and occasionally to speedballs (speed + heroin) but not to a whole pharmacy of things. Sound like he was consciously self-medicating for anxiety and depression. But, like I said, I could be wrong.
