Well drat. I was hoping they'd link the study that names the actual cause.

According to her research, the vaccine triggers a defense mechanism in some people.

According to the information, the research produces antibodies that activate the blood platelets, i.e. the thrombocytes. This normally only happens in the body when a wound is healing, when the blood coagulates and the wound closes. In some patients, however, such thromboses occurred in the brain.

Further information

The topic is the further strategy for the vaccination campaign. In Lower Saxony, SH and MV AstraZeneca is inoculated again. More corona news in the live ticker. more
Therapy developed

In collaboration with European doctors and the Paul Ehrlich Institute, the Greifswald scientists examined blood samples from those affected and developed a therapy. These results were sent to clinics across Europe yesterday. After the resumption of vaccination with AstraZeneca today, rare brain thromboses could be treated immediately.

The University Medical Center Greifswald has now broken down the likely cause of the blood clots.

According to Andreas Greinacher, he and his team found special antibodies in the blood of those affected, which are directed against the body's own blood platelets.

These cells play an important role in blood clotting.

The antibodies activate the platelets: they clump together, as they normally do to close a wound, and thus form blood clots.

The basic problem is therefore an autoimmune reaction.

In Germany, 13 cases of sinus vein thrombosis

This is what Hillary Clinton had. Thrombosis in deep vein in the brain.

were reported shortly after an AstraZeneca vaccination, all of which were associated with a lack of blood platelets, i.e. a so-called thrombocytopenia.

But, if you don't have enuf platelets, how can you develop blood clots? also seems weird that the blood clots would occur in the brain but not elsewhere.

Oh, one ends up with too few platelets as a result of them clumping wildly before-hand. Generally there's a thing called 'disseminated intravascular coagulation' or DIC for short. And it involves widespread clotting leading to few too platelets and clotting factors leading to uncontrolled bleeding. But this seems to be more limited. As to why the brain ... I don't know. Perhaps it may have something to do with the rather stagnant venous flow out of the brain as opposed to the (partially) muscle-driven venous flow out of limbs. More robust circulation elsewhere might help prevent the clots from lodging.
