There is no doubt she can sing notes. Lead artists have had an ego for centuries...for a while they were simply performers, they might have been in the lead part of a marching band as an army went to war or they played for a King and if the King didn't like it then maybe their head got chopped off. Now days ordinary musicians are elevated to levels, they become worshiped on tv and media, they are often shameless people, it is all manufactured or pushed and promoted by some record company 4 record companies own all the music and above them some big investment group from the Queen of England's trust investment or Saudis, you have Sony, Vivendi, EMi, NBC Universal...they eventually buy up all the indie companies, or above them along come Goldman Sachs of the EU or Blackrock or Vanguard. Not all is artificial, yet it is almost completely fake ...but ...even in pop some have humility 'Peter Gabriel' for example is a name that could play, he was not the best, Not one of the greatest of all time but he took the music serious enough not to make a clown show of it and he worked hard on his technique and sound, Peter Gabriel from Genesis can play.
Peter Gabriel really did some wacked out crazy psy progressive stuff but- he sounded even in some of his more trippy numbers he sounded far better than Lizzo.

I know her from I guess media online outrage, she started play the instruments of all famous historical people, they give her some special flute from hundreds of years ago, a story came out from Mainstream media that she's the best, that said Yes – they claim she's a 'flute expert' like a concert player or trained flautist....when you've been around people who play wind instruments you sort of get to know quick who can play and who can not...now admittedly I only listened to a few seconds of her playing but I guess it was enough but not as bad as say Madonna bringing a guitar on the stage for the first time. I think I heard she was trained 'University of Texas' or 'College of Houston' but she 'Dropped Out. With flute or even a simple Penny Whistle or Baroque Recorder, people should know their stuff you do have 'greatest' one ones loved by people who listened to Classic, Pop, Rock or Jazz or 'World Folk Music' the names like Jean-Pierre Rampal, Collin Tilton, Gheorghe Zamfir, Jasmine Choi, Severino Gazzelloni, Marcel Moyse, Ian Anderson, Hideki Togi, Katherine Bryan, Jeanne Baxtresser, James Galway, Emmanuel Pahud, Herbie Mann, Peter Gabriel, Ray Thomas, David Muse, Severino Gazzelloni, ...the people who would write amazing composition and not play so much like 'Mozart', Debussy, Debussy or Guistav Holstz spelling? an age before digital music and vinyl and CD and computers where people with perfect pitch would hear an entire score in their heads...the other greats Jorge Pardo, Marcel Moyse, Robert Dick... another big thing is to watch people play outside their comfort zone watch a jazz person play Classic or a Classical go Jazzy, or highlights from when they have to play outside of their instrument a Flute ply Paganini's Violin or Mozart's Piano. There is good play but there is something either very wrong with her ears or her technique, She spends more energy into dressing up, her nails either prevent her from pushing down the buttons that cover hole or she can't cover the holes with her fingers this makes a raspy non-note, its fine if you play bum 'jazz' notes . she is very 'breathy', on Asian instruments she simply sound bad, no tone, but its not a full hole so the embouchure technique is probably totally different for a Shakuhachi or Blowing edge on an ancient Chinese instrument, a similar but also totally different music but maybe that's something about her health and being such a fatass, she could be good but is the clownshow that matters.

Put on a freakshow! Her bigass thing now is taking out James Madison's Crystal Flute or Thomas Jefferson maybe getting a few notes out of them, eventually she might have a heart attack on stage and break the historical instruments.

Lizzo is not the worst, she does have ability as a player, you can hear she can truly play but there is something missing and she could play better if she worked on it but she is more interested in the freak clownshow, doing stupid things on stage for more clicks and more tickets.

The thing about today is kids listen to so much plastic music it might have been the first time they actually heard a Flute, it might be in a video game the latest Zelda, John Murphy's Mad Flute or note so Flute, maybe they hear it played in a Marching Band at School or some NFL Football game or parade, outside of I guess Lord of the Rings or something but they even want to ruin that with Lesbian Black islamo transexuals forced into the latest show. I guess people might know maybe a line or Motiff in some Natiev American flute in a movie or maybe a Scottish Air or Jig or My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean, maybe classical pieces like the Rossini William Tell Overture, Nutcracker Suite, stars and Stripes Forever or they probably know Flight of the Bumblebee from X-Factor or America's Got Talent or one of those shows...maybe... but I don't know what the kids of the West and Gen-Z listen to anymore, I think we have lost our connection to the natural way music was made and played in the past and I guess hearing a real instrument played instead of a backing track is probably a good thing.

Music is about sales, like selling as much sweet candy chocolate and selling as much fried chicken as possible. If music had standards even the standards of the stoner hippie progressive bands of the 60s and 70s I actually think she would have trouble getting cast in a role suddenly available auditioning for a band, or even those 80s and 90s sounds, Ann Wilson from Heart could solo well, Peter Gabriel did make great tone, this this was before the era of digital fx everywhere, backing tracks and fake plastic auto-tune. She is not a bad player but not very good either and can not rank amongst the great.

Well I learned something new today. I didn't even know she played anything. I didn't even know what you meant by she could "play" decent until further down in your post where you first mention the flute thing.

I just assumed she was another rap artist or something.

I remember where I first heard of her now. She was in an episode of one of the Star Wars TV shows on Disney+ in an episode with Jack Black, who is just as out of place in that universe as she was. Maybe it was The Mandelorian?

Playing instruments isn't a dead art or anything. It just doesn't ever achieve "pop" status anymore and doesn't rake in the big bucks. It's the same reason that most black kids play basketball all the time with dreams of being an NBA player one day and they're not all out on the track training to be Olympic sprinters. Though only a few would ever make it in either one, there's a whole lot of money if you make it in the NBA and a long life of sacrifice ahead of you for very little monetary payout if you become an Olympian. Especially if you don't end up being a gold medal winning Olympian after all those years of training.

You almost need to have a gimmick with instruments if you want to become a known entity too. And being good looking is a requirement as well.

I don't think she ever got rich, but Lindsey Stirling was pretty well known online for a while around 10 years ago. Not only did she learn to play the violin, but she learned to dance around like a pixie while she was doing it.

I don't think anybody except for rich people who went to see philharmonic orchestras on the regular would have ever known her name if it weren't for the dancing while playing gimmick.

Well, this thread has gone way off-track, but while I don't believe in "shaming" people for being morbidly obese (IT DOESN'T WORK TO MAKE THEM LOSE WEIGHT) I don't see the sense in "celebrating" it either: It's not good for the perosn and not good for society to promote that behavior either.

Speaking of fat musicians - my favorite is "Izzy" aka Israel Ka?ano?i Kamakawiwo?ole.

Unfortunately he died at 48; had he lost weight he might have continued to make heartfelt music for many more years.

It's far too easy to get fat in the USA, and (aside from some Polynesian Islands, where people seem to have some sort of 'fat gene') the USA is the fattest nation in the world. I chalk it up to high stress, isolation or even outright dangerous neighborhoods, a culture the promotes inactivity, and CHEAP JUNK FOOD. But it can be managed the way eating disorders are managed: not by 'celebrating' it but pesistent nudges from family and friends to make better choices.
