"Majestic"

Truthfully, it wouldn't surprise me if at least a few of you in the Verse have heard this before. My first exposure to it was a Fox cartoon called "American Dad". Though it's a slight against mankind that Firefly only got 1 season when American Dad is still going strong after 9 seasons, it really is a great show if you skip the first 3 crappy seasons that were Politics heavy and predictable.

This song was the Centerpiece for the 150th episode entitled "Lost in Space". After hearing it the first time, I was left in disbelief at the awesomeness of the song. I couldn't believe that a song made for a TV show, let alone a cartoon, was so Epic. I must have gone back on Netflix 5 times to watch that part over and over again....

It turns out one of the co-creators was a huge fan of a little known group called Wax Fang, and when he heard this song he built the entire episode around it. I can't say anything about the rest of their music, as I've still not listend to any of their other songs. As excited as I am that I might have found a new "Favorite Band", I think I'm equally apprehensive that I might Hate the rest of their stuff and the magic might be lost....

What is it about this song that is so great?

I can't figure it out.....

The instrumentation is more than adequite, although nothing is groundbreaking or earth shattering. The lead singer's vocals are closer to Randy Newman than a choir of angels. The only example of "whistling" I can think of in a pop song I liked was The Scorpion's "Wind of Change", and that was Hugely Political, where this song is about nothing of consequence....

Maybe you had to have watched the first 149 episodes of American Dad (suffered through a lot of bad episodes too) to truly get it. I'm hoping that's not true, as I would never suggest anyone watch every episode to "get" this song. This idea wouldn't be a huge stretch of the imagination though since the best episode of the series and the emotional apex of that show were centered around this song. The fact that I can even speak of an "emotional apex" of a cartoon, to me, is proof enough of the power of this song.

To me, the lyrics are perfection. That has to be the anchor upon which all the other ingredients revolve around to create what I feel is the best song I've heard since, at the very least, "We Are Young" by Fun.

If you've listened to it once and enjoyed it, listen to it again and figure out what's missing.....

There Is No Chorus.

I'm serious.

I'm sure a few "and"s and "the"s and other incidentals are repeated, but not a single meaningful word is repeated in the song, ever.

In fact, there are only 10 lines to the song. 10 LINES!

How could a song with so little to say, say so much?

I hope you all enjoy this song too.

There's so much ugliness in the world. When I find something truly beautiful, I tend to cling to it, at least for a while.

I hope you find some enjoyment in your day after listening to this.

BTW... if you are a fan of Wax Fang, tell me I won't be breaking the "magic" by listening to some of their other stuff. Give me a song or two to sample. :)

Forgot to put the Cartoon version of the song....

To build up the suspense, any "kidnapped" alien that was used for slave labor on the ship was given one chance to be returned home. If "The Majestic" determined that his love were true, he would be returned home. If not, he was stripped of his genitalia.

Who was he to know that The Majestic was just a trash eating blob with super-powers that showed the worst in humanity because it was being threatened and manipulated? 90's comedian Sinbad didn't know. By the time this episode aired, he was already "shaved bare". :) and or :(

It's all quite a bit happier than "Like a Stone", which was my favorite song for far too long...
