It has been some 40 years since the last time this has happened (and almost didn't, no thanks to The Cooch) but Virginia is in the hands of Democrats.
The Governor, Lt. Governor, AG and both Senators - Dems.

Cucinelli, who lost his run for Gov, did his damndest though. He, and other Republicans tried to change the voter recount rules and regs for the provisional ballots. That would place a republican in the AG seat of Virginia. Only one small problem, they tried to change just prior the recount...........oh, how very Republican of you.

The Cooch seems to have a stranglehold on the whole Conflict of Interest thing. First, bribes regarding the current Governor, then bribes he himself accepted, then him holding onto the AG's seat while he ran for Governor (not done since WWII), even though he was asked to step down by state democrats. But the most damning piece of political intrigue came when he tried to have the Board of Elections change, in mid-election, the rules and regs surrounding voter recount. Plus the fact that he was raising money for the republican candidate running for the AG's office.

That takes BALLS! They tried to change the rule overnight!

And they still FAILED, despite the Democratic candidate being someone people could barely even stand, and what does THAT tell you about the GOP ?

When folks would take a blatantly corrupt, untrustworthy, downright sleazy Democrat over a Republican no matter what ?

Says to me the mask has slipped, and folks have seen these monsterous cretins for what they truly are, at least in part, cause if they ever saw through to the rotten core, there wouldn't be enough trees and lampposts in the whole country for what would, and quite justifiably, happen soon after.

Take every evil known to man, throw in a few besides for good measure, and then shit on the results, and you might come vaguely close to what the GOP is, and always has been, since the days they were known as Tories, then Federalists.

Well, first of all, they DID change the rules overnight. http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?tid=56709

And they haven't failed YET. Looks to me like the count is still going on, despite Herring having declared victory, and either candidate can call for a recount... and you know they will!

I hope he does win, it would be a nice irony after the Repubs pulled their little trick to try and game the election.

Tho' I have to add the caveat that Dems have done their bit to deserve the title "monsterous cretins" as well...like making the mayor's office virtually ceremonial after a Republican was elected. In my opinion, Republicans are worse, but only by a matter of degrees.

Okay, now they've failed officially: "Herring wins Virginia attorney general race, elections board announces", http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/virginia-politics/herring-wins-vir
ginia-attorney-general-race-elections-board-announces/2013/11/25/7b661082-55e7-11e3-835d-e7173847c7cc_story.html

It remains to be seen whether Obenshain calls for a recount or not.

It shows to go ya, Frem, that dirty tricks are not solely in the grasp of the GOP. But one thing is certain, they (GOP) have exposed themselves
like at no other time.

You're right, people have gotten a peek to what's behind the curtain and the Wizard has no clothes. I had heard that the Dem was a bit of a
sleazebag, but the people - including just about every woman in the state I imagine - just didn't want to take their chances with the American Taliban.

And with Ted Cruz and company leading the charge, well, I don't hold out
hope for a GOP comeback. Those turds are about to get their comeuppance.
I can't understand how they thought a shutdown was going to be well received, imagine they have effectively slapped veterans in the face with
their shenanigans. The ironical part is, the very thing that they used to gain prominence and power, government, they're out to destroy. Personally,
my take is that once they gain access, they will dump on their T-Party
people, much like Shrub did to the evangelicals back in 2000.

Sigh, well, it's official: "Virginia attorney general race heads to recount", http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2013/11/27/virginia-attorn
ey-general-recount-obenshain-herring/3766131
/

So Virginia hasn't "won" yet, and it'll be mid-December before the recount is certified.

I'm afraid I don't feel nearly so optimistic about people having "woken up" to the idiocy of the Tea Party...certainly there are signs, Cuccinelli's loss among them, but I'm afraid we still have a long ways to go. JMHO.

On the other hand, if Herring is successful,
Quote:

If Herring's victory is upheld by the recount court, Democrats will hold all five statewide offices in Virginia — including both U.S. Senate seats — for the first time since 1970.

Go Virginia...

Okay, NOW Virginia is for Lovers and Democrats!
Quote:

GOPer Obenshain To Concede Virginia Attorney General Recount

Obenshain plans to concede on Wednesday, as a recount of the race nears its end. Obenshain had been trailing state Sen. Mark Herring (D) in initial estimates of the recount.

Herring narrowly beat Obenshain in the November election. Herring's margin of victory was small enough that under Virginia law Obenshain could request a recount.

A Herring victory means that Democrats will have swept the top three political positions in the state. Terry McAuliffe (D) was elected governor and state Sen. Ralph Northam (D) was elected lieutenant governor.

GO VIRGINIA!!!
