Oh horseshit, they had plenty of chances, they just couldn't seem to find anyone who wasn't even more slimy than whatever scumbag the Dems had on offer, thus causing a race to the bottom, which pisses me off cause without the need to compete there's no reason to raise the bar, no reason to offer any hope - if the dumb fucks of the GOP had ever got their shit together and sent up a potential who wasn't an obvious vulture intending to loot the place, shit on it and flee (like Snyder) maybe there'd be something to talk about, but nope.

In this case it matters little anyways cause by now the actual population of Detroit has figured out that "Government" is at best useless, and at worst malicious, so they get on with a combination of downright ignoring/evading it at every turn and corner and the only adverse affects of it is the bite it takes out of their resources for supposed services it never delivers - one reason there's a huge barter economy down in the neighborhoods, and as the DPD is more predator and threat than any sort of help, the market thus created for neighborhood protection has given rise to community watches and contract security firms willing to make a better deal.

It does however offend me, even way out here, that people wind up having to hire outsiders to actually *DO* the job they supposedly paid the police to, which is why we cut their budget down so hard, retaining enough to be useful in a come-and-clean-up-after kinda way cause damned if I wanna haul cretins down to central booking myself, I got better things to do.

Anyways, the PEOPLE of Detroit are actually getting by somewhat better than they have been via adopting what can only be described as a form of urban agrarian anarchism, so what the hell do they care what the "Government" does, up in their ivory towers issuing decrees everyone ignores ?
