I can't believe they're this up front about it!

Settlement plans east of Jerusalem – decried by the US and Europeans – were meant to punish Palestinians and satisfy domestic political pressure in Israel, Ambassador Michael Oren says.

Israel’s recent decision to proceed with plans for settlement construction in a hypersensitive strip of occupied land east of Jerusalem was meant as a signal to Palestinian leaders that Israel will not let provocative actions go unpunished, the Israeli ambassador to Washington said Tuesday.

Speaking at a Monitor-hosted lunch with reporters, Ambassador Michael Oren placed the announcement of plans for settlement construction in the so-called “E1” tract of land in the context of the Palestinians’ successful bid Nov. 29 for enhanced United Nations status.

“We felt if the Palestinians were taking unilateral action in the UN, we had to also send the message that we could take unilateral actions,” he said. http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/monitor_breakfast/2012/1211/Isra

Once again, they break any agreement they make before the ink is even dry.
And as usual, taking land and resources in their genocidal intent to push the Palestinians into the sea.

And imma refrain from further comment, at this time.

Hello,

Unilateral action, eh?

As far as I'm concerned, they can be utterly and completely unilateral. No U.S. aid or support while this nonsense goes on. Make it clear we consider the Palestinian situation an internal matter in which we will not intervene. (Unless they want to recognize palestine as an independent, sovereign state with full rights thereof and withdraw all forces and control from that territory.)

Unilateral sounds darn good to me.

Necessary reprisal and punishment for Palestine deciding to unilaterally... seek recognition from the UN as a state. By unilaterally driving them off their lands by military force and heavy machinery and construction. That's not disproportionate at all.

I notice that if Israel was still trying to do the things Palestine is, like get recognized as a state in the UN if not by their neighbors, and someone was opposing them, the sheer amount of whining would be deafening.

Hypocrites.

Anthony, a belief I've long held. Without us feeding them money, arms, support, etc., I'd like to believe they wouldn't feel so free to behave the way they do. The time when we should support them has long since passed, in my opinion.

Tit for tat got us where we are today. If we want to be grownups, we need to resist the ugliness. If we each did, this would be a better reflection on Firefly and a more welcome place. I will try.
