Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

To give us a break from our incessant arguing about politics, as Mike's kitty did, I offer my own. When we take the dogs out, Tashi (or "Tashi The Walking Stomach" as he is oft referred to) knows when we get home, I will immediately feed them breakfast. This excites him greatly, as food is pretty much the focus of his life. So as we approach home, he begins typical husky vocalizing...everything from low groanish sounds (threats and demands) to high-pitched whining (pleading), the essence of all being "Goddman it, get us home FASTER!"

Once home, they both race into the house...Kochyok to take a piss out back (as she never pisses elsewhere if she can help it--unless she's standing in water!), Tashi to begin what we call his "Breakfast Dance". He attacks Kochyok the minute she gets back inside, and doesn't stop until he spots me standing in the kitchen doorway with their food bowls. I finally caught it on camera, and thought it might bring a giggle or two:

Generally Kochyok is the "aggressor" when it comes to play, and virtually FORCES Tash to play with her when she feels like it. When it comes to the Breakfast Dance, she tolerates his insanity and only has to do the slightest thing to encourage him.

The utilization of his body, by the way, is typical husky. They "throw" their butts around a LOT when playing, so it's not just Tash's usual dumbness that causes it. That's his excuse and he's sticking to it!

Oh, and since we're being all heartwarming here...

I did mention how awesome Vic and the Ypsilanti fire dept are a couple times already, right ?

Firefighters deliver baby in bathtub

A baby didn't want to wait until mom got to the hospital.

Fire crews dispatched to the 8600 block of Spinnaker Way on a call for medical assistance around 6 p.m. Wednesday delivered a baby boy within three minutes of arriving, Ypsilanti Township firefighter Mike Helisek said.

When Helisek and his partner, Mark Kochan, got to the apartment, the mother, a 36-year-old Ypsilanti Township woman, was in labor in the bathtub.

The woman, whose due date was Nov. 11, had gone to the doctor earlier in the day and was told she wasn't expected to deliver anytime soon.

The baby boy had other plans.

"That baby was coming whether we were there or not," said Helisek.

After going to the doctor's earlier in the day, the woman reportedly went out shopping and did a lot of walking around. When she came home, she didn't feel well so she got into the tub to take a bath, Helisek said. That's when labor started and 911 was called.

The healthy baby was delivered and Huron Valley Ambulance was on the scene minutes later to transport mother and child to University of Michigan Hospital as a precaution.

The baby's father, grandparents and 9-year-old sister were on hand in the apartment for the birth, said Helisek.

So add baby delivery to rescuing kittens, ducks, and doing a supremely excellent job on chemical spills.

Gonna hafta find something "heroic" to get the dept this xmas, I think, just cause they so deserve it.

You should see him when I hold up the food dish, then He-Who-Does-NOT-Jump (except to get on the bed because there is no other way) actually does a couple of leaps before sitting down to wait for the food to be put in front of him and the "word" to be given. This is one of the laziest dog's I've ever known...except when it comes to food!

That is one very special fire department the city should recognize them or something...often! Too bad they're not all like that!

It's not that unusual, I think, for cops and firefighters to deliver babies (what IS it with these stupid people that they don't go to the hospital in time?!?!); we just had one across the Bay:
Quote:

OAKLAND — (CBS SF) — A panicking father-to-be flagged down Oakland police officers at a gas station on Golf Links Road, Friday night. His wife was in labor.

Officers looked inside the man’s car and saw woman in the late stages of labor. The officers summoned medical help, but the baby arrived before the paramedics. The officers successfully delivered the baby — a 7 pound 9 ounce baby boy.

The mother and baby were transported to a local hospital. The officers went to check on the new family later and reported all were doing well.

Tit for tat got us where we are today. If we want to be grownups, we need to resist the ugliness. If we each did, this would be a better reflection on Firefly and a more welcome place. I will try.
