Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

I'm still waiting for his reply. But I don't expect him to be back here either, discussing his initial claims.

Now you want us to go into great detail discounting an email that has no more credibility than "Saddam had WMD"?? Sorry, I played that game with rappy too many times, but I stopped even pretending to respond to him and I won't play that game with you. If you think the article has something genuine to say, then you prove it to us. Dig up the congressional history, who proposed what, who filibustered, "who voted for what and when" instead of expecting us to respond to a childish email. If YOU come up with a cogent point, I'm sure you'll get cogent responses.

But if you have to wave this stupid rag around just to say I WIN I WIN then you've truly descended to rappy-land.

Indeed. This is along the same lines as the old saw about "Dodd & Frank CAUSED the financial collapse of the whole world!" Yeah, somehow they managed to do that in a few short months when they got the chairs of the House and Senate Finance Committees. I've been asking, literally for years, for someone to point out the exact piece of legislation, the exact clause, section, article, that Dodd & Frank put into the 1977 Affordable Housing Act that collapsed the entire financial industry in less than a year.

And every single time I've ever asked, I've been answered with...

... crickets.

Two days, and still nothing on this one.

I wonder why...

Mitt Romney, introducing his running mate: "Join me in welcoming the next President of the United States, Paul Ryan!"

Rappy's response? "You're lying, gullible ( believing in some BS you heard on msnbc ) or hard of hearing."

I read it all, but what's the point of responding to you when you don't know the basics of how your government works?

No, Dear.

It's YOUR assumption.

ALL I've been saying is that when the President's party doesn't have control of one or both Houses of Congress, the opposition can obstruct or prevent legislation that the President and his party want to get passed. This applies equally to Bush and the 110th Congress, and Obama and the 112th Congress. That's it. No more. No less.

If you want to go off on wild-assed rants because your prejudices and preconceptions, I surely can't stop you, but you're trying to argue against a point I never tried to make.

And as some have been saying, as was shown with the 111th Congress, even when the president's party DOES "have control of one or both houses of Congress", the opposition can obstruct or prevent legislation that the president and his party want to pass.

Well it's not my government, but after spending two minutes on google I'd say I understand it better than you. You refer to instances of Bush's vetoes being overridden as part of your argument for how the democrats in congress had 'total control'. What you don't seem to realise is that the Democrats didn't have the 2/3 majority needed for these overrides, and therefore it was a combination of Democrats and Republicans who voted to override the vetoes. So that's hardly an example of total Democratic control, is it?

The reality of the Democrats' 'total control' is that they couldn't pass bills unless either the president or congressional Republicans helped them.

It's not personal. It's just war.

And this is the thread you posted with none of the 'all I've been saying' part ...

So, you now refuse to stand behind your original post? Good. At least you've learned something.

Well, at least you've gotten Geezer to finally admit that the e-mail he received was total bunk. We all knew it from the beginning, but it's taken him quite a while to talk himself into our way of thinking!
