Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

The truth about violence at Occupy

In Oakland, the camp coincided with a significant drop in crime. But that wasn't the story we were told

... Now here’s something astonishing. While the camp was in existence, crime went down 19 percent in Oakland, a statistic the city was careful to conceal. “It may be counter to our statement that the Occupy movement is negatively impacting crime in Oakland,” the police chief wrote to the mayor in an email that local news station KTVU later obtained and released to little fanfare. Pay attention: Occupy was so powerful a force for nonviolence that it was already solving Oakland’s chronic crime and violence problems just by giving people hope and meals and solidarity and conversation.

I'm sure Rappy and his Mutt will be along any second to explain how this is just impossible, or meaningless. If a single crime occurs while Occupy is protesting, THAT is their fault, directly. If crime drops a huge amount while Occupy is protesting, that means nothing, just a statistical fluke.

Neat how their brains twist this stuff, huh?

Which is, effectively, how it works.

From parenting, to crime prevention, to the alleviation of social ills uncountable, time and time again the evidence has proven THIS IS WHAT WORKS.

You know what doesn't ?
Violence, Force, Hate.

Declaring "war" on this or that, or them or those, is nothing, all it does is feed the beast, give it an excuse to exist, and frankly a lot of people who do so damn well know it and do so intentionally for personal gain.
If there's a better definition of "evil" than that, I dunno what it is, or perhaps, insanity, but the difference I think, is whether one does so ignorantly or in the full knowledge of their actions.

Every ounce of anything ripped from the teeth of the war machine, in whatever form it takes, is a victory for humanity.

Cause that's what this, what ALL this is.
Humanity versus Insanity.
The insanity of believing if one can just apply ENOUGH force, ENOUGH violence, ENOUGH hate, they can "win" without having to share this world, without having to get along with others, without having to mitigate their vile behavior.

From the tiniest stupid nitpick, to the threat of world war three - THIS, is what it is, what it has ALWAYS been, and always will be so long as we fail to comprehend exactly what the problem is.

Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. Every little increase in human freedom has been fought over ferociously between those who want us to know more and be wiser and stronger, and those who want us to obey and be humble and submit.”

Every time you reach out, one must think - am I doing so to lift someone up, or am I doing so to smash them down, and if so, why ?

Cause it's a CHOICE, people, never think it isn't.

NIKI2

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Thanx for that, Kiki, I didn't know it either. And the reasons make sense; there's a LOT of homelessness in Oakland, probably more than any other city in the Bay Area. It makes a certain amount of sense that someone caring and giving them some sustenance would lessen their acting out, and it doesn't surprise me in the least that it's not getting play in the MSM...as I've said before, the right is quite adept at their efforts to tar anyone they don't like, and the MSM mostly reports what it's fed. Good old KTVU--they're one of the few left with a good investigative unit working locally.

I notice the guys hollering about Occupy being so horrible haven't chimed in, and somehow I don't expect them to. Shame, it would be nice if...

Well, why finish the sentence, not worth the typing time. Sigh...
