Y'know, there's a really tasteless joke in there about Asians and driving, but I'm zipping my lip...

On the one hand, they're just cars, and nobody died, so that's a win. On the other hand, it saddens me to see any Ferrari crashed. There is a mystique about them, and virtually every Ferrari appreciates in value - even those horribly shitty Magnum P.I. 308s that you used to be able to pick up for ten grand. Now you'll be lucky to find one for five times that, even though a run-of-the-mill Camaro could beat 'em in their day.

What is it about folks who own sports cars that most of em can't DRIVE worth a shit ?
I mean, seriously, it's all ego-fluff to em or something cause damned if I've seen any that can actually make USE of it's superior capabilities, those that have any, cause as you note some of them so-called-supercars ain't too impressive.

Even the ones that are usually lack creature comforts, most notorious is a lack of power steering and a teensy steering wheel, which means they're a right BITCH to park, which is the other reason besides scratches and dings you see em parked way the hell away from anything else, bleh.

Out of all the cars we got to play with during that sports car driving course I took, it was the Lotus Turbo Esprit that won my heart, not only could it hang with the big bad boys on the track, it had ALL the little creature comforts which made driving a pleasure instead of a chore, but even so, by choice if I could have anything...
I'd opt for some gigantic hulk of mopar heavy metal - in all honesty compared to modern performance standards they're in truth a bit lacking, but there was a certain hideous majesty to them, monuments to a bygone era.

From what I've seen, it's not so much can't drive, as aren't nearly as capable as they think, and they tend to think the car's superior abilities can bail them out if they get in too deep, or can defy the laws of physics. Within two months of the vaunted Lotus Elise (a tiny car with a tiny Toyota engine, but weighing nearly nothing and blessed with near-perfect weight distribution) coming to these shores, we'd had reports of no fewer than three of them going upside-down out on 2222, Austin's version of Mulholland Drive. In every case, the driver had overcooked the tires, gone into a sharp bend WAAAAY too fast, and gotten out of shape and gone off the road and over the edge.

They DO have amazing capabilities, but flight isn't among them. :)

Oh I'd have to say it is... it's the LANDING that's a bitch.

I should talk *snort* having completely demolished the suspension of one car during a full contact moto event, some nimrod bumped me onto a ramp and when it came down it punched both front struts up through the mounts with a sound a lot like the one a wrecking ball makes when it hits a dumpster, didn't finish the race but I got that bastard, managed to T-bone him to the wall before the tires blew.

Anyhows, folks are like that with SUVs as well, first off not all of em are 4WD and most that pretend to be are ACTUALLY AWD which isn't quite the same, plus the unholy weight and mass of the blasted things is a factor, and them antilock brakes do NOT give it magical abilities in regards to stopping power either...

All that said, the Elise is a baaaaad little mofo, innit ?
Keep yer damn cubic inches, give me power-to-weight!

PS. Wanna bet the dumb fucks were using stock tires ?

It is incredible, but for the money, I'd take a Lotus 7 (or any of its derivatives) any day. 100hp and 800 lbs = giant-killer on a twisty road.

Yeeearghh, speakin of people who CAN'T DRIVE...
Quote:

Washtenaw County dispatchers counted 79 crashes on the roads, including two involving school buses and several involving multiple vehicles. Michigan State Police dealt with 14 just on Washtenaw County freeways, said Sgt. Mark Thompson at the Brighton post. Fortunately, none of the crashes involved serious injuries.

About an inch of snow fell overnight in the Ann Arbor area.

ONE INCH... ONE, in MICHIGAN, and these morons can't cope ?
Seriously, WTF is wrong with these people ?

And that also sets off another of my pet peeves, schools not closing cause they don't wanna interrupt the programming, cause they don't wanna be INCONVENIENCED, and gawd forbid the kids have a day off to play in the snow - so they risk their very lives on icy roads ?
Where the hell are peoples priorities, I ask you, and yet if you hold the kid out for their safety they'll have a hissy at you....

Also, speakin of tires Mikey - I've noticed that many so-called supercars come with completely inadequade tires on them, either cause the distributor went cheap or the dealer switched them out figuring no one would notice, and generally those "performance" tires give 60% or less of the rated performance anyways, most of em - besides which when you're talkin about harder rubber like that you don't wanna play games on cold, new tires anyways, you wear em in and warm em up and THEN get all wacky, but when did good sense ever seem to be in large supply behind the wheel.

All the gewgaws in the world, your AWD and Antilock brakes and all that bru-hah, ain't gonna budge the fucking laws of physics no matter what the adverts tell ya, and I guess some folk got a hard lesson in this fact recently.

Just a suggestion, if you can't freakin drive, when it snows - DON'T!

I said that I would never come to this section again but I couldn't help myself when I saw the headline, I have only this to say... WHAT THEY'VE DONE SHOULD BE A MORTAL SIN!! MORTAL SIN!!

As for the Lotus 7, it's a little too little (funny) for my taste.
