YINYANG

You were busy trying to get yourself lit on fire. It happens.

Well, yeah, I guess it was a bit of a leap - I certainly didn't mean to imply that you wished there weren't any gay people, and I'm sorry that I did. But it still seems backwards to me, because the problem wouldn't be his gayness, but harmful reactions to his gayness. And I can understand not wanting your son to be harmed, but as someone who does have a personal stake in this, one less person being gay doesn't solve homophobia for me or my friends.

I'm sorry if this comes off as another attack on you personally - I don't mean it that way. Just some food for thought.

And you hit the nail on the head. It would be the reaction to his gayness that I would worry about. In a perfect world, I wouldn't have to worry about that, but I don't live in a perfect world.

I think all parents want their kids free from harm and don't want them to be in a position where they has to face bigotry and possible violence. But if it happens, I'm fine with it, and I'll be a tiger mum to anyone who gives him hell.

I admitted a personal feeling here, not something I'd campaign about, nor one I feel particular proud of, but it IS the truth. So I did feel attacked.

I admire you for wanting to protect your son and being so accepting. For me, it's just tiring when people, even well-meaning allies like you, wish for less gay people rather than wishing for less homophobia. And I know that your son's sexuality is a much smaller, easier, and more personally motivating issue than reducing bigotry in the world, so it makes sense why you feel the way you do. I guess I just like it better when people dream bigger. (But, if wishes were horses and all that...)

Hope there's no hard feelings between us.

I don't see the two as being mutually exclusive. I don't wish for less gay people in the world, and I hope for less bigotry. I do see that you take my personal wishes for my son in a somewhat personal way and I think that is about your view of the world rather more than my hopes for my son.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

..Or like you. I'm pretty sure your post IS mean-spirited....but what do I know?... you fucking idiot.-Kaney

Reading comprehension... not your strong point? Did I exclude myself in that statement?

Yep, I'm angry. (Not greedy though!) Funny thing is, assholes like you, crappy and wulfenshit can spout all of the subtly threatening posts you care to, like "I'm gonna open-carry to the nearest coffee-shop and give all those librul wusses and their symps the scare of their life" ... but when it comes YOUR way, you whine like the little baby-bullies you are.

Funny thing is, it took a "librul" like Niki to make YOUR point for you.

The only thing I would change would be the part about climate change. Most conservatives will admit to that since the climate is indeed changing and always has cycled throughout the ages. So you might want to call it global warming for your intentions. But it was a good article.

She actually does mean climate change, it's shorthand for global warming caused climate change. Some of the modeling among the environmental scientist community suggests that "global warming" could actually cause some places to become COLDER. One of the phenomena that might cause this is a complete shut down of the thermohaline circulation.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shutdown_of_thermohaline_circulation

So they changed the name from just global warming to be more accurate. Or as those who completely disbelieve climate change would say, disingenuous. (Me: middle of the road again)

My grandmother is sad that we don't have any faith, but unfortunately the mormon belief system is pretty out there. And I don't look for other belief systems because I'm concerned that might insulate me from the pain and struggles in the world.

NIKI2

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

I'm with Byte on this one. I remember coming home and the LAST thing I wanted to do was get on the internet, for one thing. For another, that took me a bit of time to do (mostly because I don't know off the top of my head what to replace the names with, and had to look for rallies, etc., that were pro-right). It wasn't just dashed off and probably took more than an hour to put together.

I wouldn't ask anyone to spend their time doing anything they don't want to, which is why I volunteered. The sad thing to ME is that Wulf never came back and actually addressed it--the kudos were nice, but he still got the concept of the article wrong, and hasn't come back since. Which is okay, and not that unusual, just a shame he can't follow up on his statement that everyone would be "outraged" and see that nobody WAS.

Worth the time, tho'; was kind of a fun challenge.

My parents were Republicans. Thank gawd I went my own way, tho' to be fair, they weren't ANYTHING like the righties we see here and would have abhorred the Tea Party. I guess you'd call them "moderate Republicans", if there is such a thing (and yes, I know there is, I'm just teasing).

Thanks, Niki - but you kind of just made my point for me.

Wulfie likes to attack all "liberal" - you most especially - as being a bunch of lazy, unmotivated stoners who are unwilling to put in any effort or work. And you've just shown that you're far more willing to put in the work than he was.

Which was my point all along. He suggested that he might rewrite it, because he had such a big problem with it and found it so biased. But he chickened out, and one of his hated "lazy liberals" actually took the challenge and did the work, even going so far as to do research and look up right-wing causes and leaders.

This is why today, you win the internets! :D

(Oh, and before you ask, Wulfie - the reason *I* didn't rewrite it? Because I had no problem with the way it was written the first time. )
