Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Interesting; this is news to me, but it makes sense (not the cheating or the sexting, but that it leads to infidelity). I guess I'm still a neophite, or not even that, given I don't TEXT, much less sext!
Quote:

Anthony Weiner, take note: according to a new study about cyberinfidelity, sexting with people you meet online is a really poor substitute for sex. New research shows that the majority of people who first cheat online end up cheating with their Internet lovers in real life.

Evolving technology means that people find paramours in very different ways than they used to. In fact, the popularity of the Internet and the anonymity it affords has catapulted it to No. 1 on the list of top places to go looking for love. Assuming you don't commit a Wiener-like flub and send a mass tweet of your jersey-clad groin to all your Twitter followers, digital romance has the potential to be quite discreet. Just ask the nearly 10 million anonymous members of Ashley Madison, which bills itself as the world's leading married dating service. Its tagline? "Life is short. Have an affair."

Researchers at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, got permission from Ashley Madison to offer users the opportunity to participate in a survey as they were about to log off the dating site. In three months, researchers got 8,800 hits. Of those, they zeroed in on 5,187 adults who answered questions about Internet use, sexual behaviors and attitudes about online sexual behaviors, with a focus on cheating.

Here's what they learned: women are more likely than men to sext. More than two-thirds of the participants had cheated online while committed to someone else; more than three-quarters had cheated in real life. More than 66% said they had met someone in real life for a hook-up after first meeting them online; this finding applied to 83% of the women, according to the research, which is published online in the journal Sexuality & Culture.

So much for family values, observes Diane Kholos Wysocki, professor of sociology at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

"The real question for me is what's happening in our relationships," says Kholos Wysocki. "I think everyone starts out in love and plans to live happily ever after. But then life happens. We have children, we have bills, we have drama, the toilet seat's left up, everyone's tired, and the two things I hear from people that are lost are communication and sexual passion."

Online dalliances are free of all that tiresome baggage. "Survey respondents said cyberspace infidelity is quick, they feel appreciated, it's easy, it's a fantasy world," says Kholos Wysocki.

Online dalliances have become so popular for the exact same reason that online shopping has boomed: it's so much easier to find exactly what you want by typing your specs into a search field and clicking "go" than by sifting through the social jungle.

"You can't go to your friends and say, By the way, can I wear pink panties and will you spank me?" says Kholos Wysocki. "A man will not ask his wife that because the risk is too high. It's easier to go to someone who is already into that than take the risk of going to someone you are living with."

It's not news that many people prefer to live virtual lives nowadays, communicating via Facebook instead of socializing with friends and texting rather than calling. But computers can go only so far when it comes to the need for physical contact. Regardless of age, survey respondents indicated they would rather cheat in person than online. "You crave the touch," says Kholos Wysocki.

If my husband wanted to wear pink panties and get spanked I'd say something like "well ... okay, lets give it a go then". It can't hurt to try it and I'd rather he gets it from me than from someone else.
Did I just say that on the Internet? :) (silly face)

It seems even folks famous for catching predators can get caught in their own real-world infidelity...

That's the great thing about being openly Poly.
Long as you're honest about it, and keep to your agreements, nobody cares!

We have a friend like that Frem, he makes sure his girlfriends know he'll be rutting with other women and if they don't mind then they date him/stay with him. I personally find that groty but it isn't my job to tell you what you can and can't do. It sounds like you tell women so they know and so its all out in the open, I think that's important.

America loves a winner!

Even Jimmy Carter lusted in his heart.

How is that in any way commenting on the subject of the thread ?

Your petty response and ignoring of the topic has me wondering why you even bothered to post anything at all.

*snicker*
Oddly enough, Rioma, it's actually quite rare for matters to progress that far, even an overnighter and cookin em breakfast in the mornin doesn't mean nothin happened - but it does amuse me to let people assume it, sure - and yeah verily that attitude annoys the shit out of other Polys who for reasons fully beyond my comprehension still cling in some fashion to moralities they claim to have rejected.

Most folk, I think, are too focused on their more primitive instincts when dealing with the opposite, or same, sex depending on preference, and in their efforts to get into some pants, seem to completely miss the person wearing them - that ain't me, never was, never will be, I'm more interested in WHO YOU ARE, than any of that gamesmanship, and having none of the usual strings attached leaves more allowance for that.

Although I will say there's women (usually somewhat insecure ones) who become quite enraged when the usual womanly-wiles fail completely, because it makes them question their abilities, and robs them of their power over others - that's caused an ugly incident or two, not the least of which was one trying to provoke a fight so she could bring charges, but bouncing her fist off my jaw in front of forty-some witnesses at a convention kinda put the kibosh on any attempt to blame me for it - although admittedly laughing at her was needlessly provocative and malicious, intentionally so, but what would one have me do ?
(That provoked her to complete frenzy, and required a couple would-be peacemakers to drag her off somewhere to cool down)

One subset of those I really dislike are what I call trophy-hunters - you get em in both genders, and they treat getting in someones pants like a big game hunt, almost exclusively targeting folk already in a relationship, and once they get their "mark", they lose all interest - I've seen many a relationship wrecked that way, and then the damn fool who fell for it cast aside and abandoned, which one could say they kinda deserve, but still it's a nasty thing to do.
Of course I don't have so much moral high ground there, as I am quite fond of leading them on round and round in circles without ever having any intention of letting them in close - although I do tell em up front... which as you know simply provokes them all the more, which is exactly bloody why I do it.

Honestly, I think most of the problem we have socially is a combination of peek-a-boo hypocrisy and the idiotic clinging to a set of inhuman and ridiculous puritan morals which serve no logical purpose in the modern world, which only serves to further bury us in the layers of lies we tell each other, all of which cause conflict and chaos when one party or the other stops playing along and starts questioning them - a pattern of gamesmanship so ridiculous, yet so entrenched, that when I try to be up front and honest with people about this sort of thing it's automatically taken for a sham, and then they get mad when they find out it WASN'T...

People and their hangups, I swear...
