"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Okay, I'm a lefty. No surprise to anyone here. I listen to Norman Goldman's radio show on occasion. He strives to be the left-wing version of Limbaugh, it seems, badgering right-wingers and saying outrageous things to try to get ratings. Sometimes it's humorous, but yesterday's show crossed a line (I heard it today via podcast) when he said of Herman Cain, "If HE makes it to Washington, *I'M* going to get a gun!"

Sorry, but I don't appreciate it coming from the right, and I don't appreciate it coming from the left.

Oddly, I can't find a peep about it anywhere, but I fired off an e-mail to Norman letting him know he'd lost an ally by stepping over a line from tasteless but inoffensive to downright unacceptable.

I don't like Herman Cain. I don't like his politics or his policies. But goddam it, I'm not going to be joking about "getting a gun" because I disagree with him about political issues or ideological ones.

It's wrong when it comes from either side.

Kinda makes me glad I never listen to such jerks in the first place, not since Morton Downey Jr. (that being where Rush more or less jacked his schtick from anyways) who actually was kinda entertaining because unlike todays pundits he and most of those watching did not, whatever, in any way, take that bullshit seriously.

Nowadays, eeeughh - and as each side moves further to extremes and becomes ever more vicious, ever more hateful, you can almost hear the knives being sharpened, sure.

Like I say, you can't save people from themselves, and ya shouldn't oughta try...

But I've little moral high ground on that one, since egging it on in hopes they WILL someday slaughter most of each other isn't real nice either - in my defense though, I feel the sooner that happens and the quicker it's over, the less collateral damage there's gonna be, since it seems all but inevitable.

On that note, I'd pay good money to see some of these extreme wingnuts from both sides in a cage match.

What's that charming trope? "Even evil has standards" lol. I'm just playing. I agree with you and am glad to hear that even when caught up in the political game, you have standards that apply to both sides.

You are a credit to your party.

((Just in case my tone of voice doesn't translate through the interwebs, though I am poking a little fun, I mean this to be a compliment))

All Rush said was he hoped Obama's policies fail. And they have.

Who is this clown again ? Norman someone? Never heard of him. Hardly the 'Limbaugh of the Left', if no one's heard of him.

But typical, from the Left.

Randi Rhodes, Alec Baldwin, ... and others on the Left have uttered remarks about killing conservatives.

I suspect this will get him 30 seconds of the fame, he so desperately wants.

Rap, he didn't say he *was*

BTW, I don't know this Norm guys is, a quick look at his home page didn't show me what his agenda is, it looks like he wants a kind of tea party appeal for left-activism, and like so many of these personalities, he wants to be in the middle of the cult. I just wanted to note a "least virile mixed metaphor" award:

Yeah, who needs a message of hard work, freedom and self determination. How dare a black person, of all people, try to promote that, huh Kwickie ?

Herman Cain is black ?
Huh, didn't know that - don't see how it matters though, since he's not a serious enough candidate for folks to care, could be that whole credibility problem with the party he's attached to....

Frem: I do that a lot. I thought one of my friends who was half Chinese was Latina for YEARS.

She just thought I was nuts... For unrelated reasons, but when she found out that kinda just confirmed it for her.

I guess what talkshow hosts, whether political talkshows or other talkshows, say doesn't really bother me one way or the other. Sure there are a few things that are over the line, but I don't really pay much attention to the political ones saying mean things, that just seems to be par for the course.

*shrug*
Given that I mostly get perceived as female online, and how stuff like race, culture, gender... don't really MATTER in most of the conversations I'd have anyway, who really cares - if you respect the personhood of the being you're talking to, unless you're a total dick, why would it at all change someones opinion of someone else, why should it ?

I say once more, the solution to all the phony ass barriers we erect between ourselves for no better reason than the power games of the elites setting us up for divide and conquer isn't programs or awareness campaigns....

It's APATHY.

Simple as that.

True. And I'm pretty oblivious in general, and basically just try to treat everyone I meet equally. Me thinking she was latina made not one speck of difference how I would've treated her if I knew she was chinese... Though it did suddenly make a lot more sense why she was giving me red chinese new years pouches in February all through high school. After I figured that out, I started giving her news years pouches too, it only seemed fair.

>_> Hey, I'm thick, I readily admit it. You're talking to the person who saw Serenity, liked it but forgot about it, played a few games from the Serenity RPG, saw the movie AGAIN, then didn't put it together it was all related until I finally saw the series. Sometimes, I'm really, really dumb.

Though, I also live in Salt Lake City, and I can't say everyone is as colourblind as I am. Lots of anti-chicano sentiment, and when I was going to my high school someone spray painted racial slurs about our black principal all over the lockers one time.

Byte, I wouldn't say you're oblivious - you just have more important shit to worry about than someone else's color/race/ethnicity.

Would that we were all so "thick", if that's the case...

I got a response back from a staffer who told me that what he MEANT was that he would be getting a gun to shoot HIMSELF if Cain got into the White House. I pointed out that they really should go back and listen, because nothing he said conveyed that intent, and he should apologize and retract his statement, rather than try to clarify it. I haven't heard anything further.

Yes, clarification would be nice if that's true, but not expected. I never listen to talk radio, gave it up decades ago because most of it is so absurd and so ridiculously over-the-top partisan on both sides that it's not worth listening to.

*Off topic and I appologize*

Hi Kwicko!
Last year someone posted a rock song about Serenity and I don't remember which topic it was under, but I think that it wasn't posted under "general discussions"

Reason I ask you is I think you said you liked it too...and I've spent 4 hours plodding through old threads and youtube vids...

If you just happen to know what I'm talking about, tell me. Dear God, don't go looking for it if ya don't...

If anyone else in here remembers, that would be great! Thanx!

I knwo you've been around long enough to remember when the internet was a sausagefest and Girl On kThe Internet syndrome was rampant. But things change (what with girls brains being more towards the verbal and guy brains more towards the math, when computers shifted from overgrown calculators to a communication machine, I think the balance switch the other way.

I guess the real question is: Did Wulfie ever offer to take you in a manly fashion?
