Dictator Hussein Obama orders SWAT raids student loan defaults

SWAT team busts into house over student loan default

Posted on 06.8.11
By Sahil Kapur

Acting on orders from the U.S. Department of Education, a S.W.A.T. team broke into a California home Tuesday at 6 a.m. and roughed up a man — reportedly because of his estranged wife’s defaulted student loans. She wasn’t there. [UPDATE below: Officials confirmed the raid on the house but deny that the search warrant was related to student loans.]

Yet, Kenneth Wright of the city of Stockton was grabbed by the neck by handcuffed before he and his three young children were put in a police car as the officers searched his house, he told ABC News10. He said he was in his underwear the whole time.

“They busted down my door for this. It wasn’t even me,” Wright told the local news station. “All I want is an apology for me and my kids and for them to get me a new door.”

Local police were reportedly not involved in the incident.

Watch this video from ABC News10, broadcast June 7, 2011.

UPDATE: ABC News10 reports in an updated story:

“A U.S. government official confirmed for News10 Wednesday morning federal agents with the Office of the Inspector General (OIG), not local S.W.A.T., served the search warrant. The official would not say specifically why the raid took place. He did say the search was not related to student loans in default.”

Now, it’s about starting the world. I sent an email to President Obama saying, ‘You are a fucking traitor,’ using those words… ‘You’re a traitor, you allowed foreign boots on our soil telling our military — in this case the coastguard – what they can and could not do, and telling us, the citizens of the United States, what we could or could not do’.”

Its rediculous how expensive and oppressive student loans have gotten. I'm so very thankful for my Ford Family Foundation scholarship, huzzah for them! I'm excedingly fortunate but so many others aren't and end up owing obscene amounts of money. The whole thing is "stupidly" and I wish someone who makes laws would step up to teh plate and do something about it. I don't really know what could be done but this is getting way out of hand.

A large part of the problem, Riona, is that it's not even about education, but rather a social classism of the same sort that once required military officiers to "buy" their commissions, in order to prove they came from a moneyed/elite family and keep the peons out.

College and it's debt has over time evolved into much the same thing, and the value of the education received for that pretty piece of paper is, IMHO, negligable.

I don't have that piece of paper - does it make me a dimwit, hmm ?

How did you win a grant from the Ford Foundation?

Hi PN, In OR, all students in their senior year of high school are given a pamphlet called OSAAC which has lots of scholarships listed and you just mark all that would apply to you, write two essays and send it back to your school and they send copies of your essays to all the scholarships that are applicable to you. Apparently the folks at Ford fancied me, saw potential in me to be something significant someday (here's hoping) and interviewed me, then I was accepted as a Ford Scholar and did the conferences etc. like we were supposed to do each summer, had college paid for etc. Its a fantastic program, 100 students are chosen each year in OR. Note the Ford Family Foundation isn't related to the car company. I'm honored that they chose me to participate. I went to an inexpensive college, the one in my city, so they didn't have to pay nearly as much for me to go as they did for the students who chose fancy private universities.

This talk of how expensive student loans have become, even though Obama has basically taken over the loan business, is besides the point.

We have the Dept of Education, issuing an order to raid a private home, making use of armed officers, going after not drug dealers, bank robbers or suspected terrorists, but one woman who defaulted on her student loan ???

Kenneth Wright sat in the back of a squad car, handcuffed, for over 6 hours. His crime ? Did he resist arrest ? Did he have illegal guns or drugs in his house ? Pornography ? Nope, none of those.

He committed no crime. Armed federal agents with the Office of the Inspector General just felt like doing it.

If the government calls in a SWAT team because of a few dollars owed for student loans, what do you think they’ll do if you do not obey the Obamacare law to the letter?

You guys know I'm always in favor of police SWAT teams busting down doors and kicking ass in the name of justice...but even I have to shake my head at this one. Student loans? I know the govt is exempt from Fair Debt Collection laws...but when I used to do collections for my City utility and tax departments I still abided by the Fair Debt rules.

Next we'll be ordering drone strikes on jaywalkers and deploying Seal Team 6 to serve court summons.

I had the pell grant, hope scholarship and a music
Scholarship, not realizing at the time there would soon be no hope in music (teaching). Everything at the university was so ridiculously expensive. 1 book should not cost multiple 100's of dollars. Then they're like 'that's okay you can use financial aid and sell it back' but you het pennies for selling the book back to them and then they sell it again for 100's. I still had to take out student loans which are costing me a little over 250 a month. Still, I have it better than a lot of other folks who had to take out more loans. Also, my university was one of the less expensive in the state that had a well respected music department.

My answer to stuff like that, Happy ?

Sure, you gotta play the cards you're dealt - but in a rigged game, only a sucker plays them honestly.

One of my little side-things is aquiring those textbooks for very little, and putting them in the hands of college students who'd otherwise have trouble affording them.

While one *could* consider that to be altruistic, my motives regarding that and much else are a bit less pure, since it's more about sticking pins in a system I feel is corrupt than actually helping folk - although that is a nice bonus, it is, since it encourages them to put faith in their fellow humans rather than corrupt systems.

What, you didn't know studying music would lead to exciting opportunities in the fast food and service industry?

I guess you looked around you and saw all those people putting their music, art, and theater degrees to good use...

You should have studied Philosophy so you could ponder the great mysteries of the universe like 'why don't I have a job' or 'why didn't I study something I could use'.

Lol, that was why I did not major in music performance I
Thought music Ed was a safe major at the time on account of there being a band director shortage. The economy tanked and they started firing directors, or waiting for them to retire and having 1 director work 2 or 3 schools.

Now I do behavioral therapy for autistic children (I've even incorporated music into the therapy). Before finding this gig I got desperate and did apply for Joe jobs (such as exciting food service opportunities) but they wouldn't hire because they thought I would leave them to fill a band directing position that didn't exist. This therapy job is alrigt though. Also, if'n I accumulate enough experience I can take a few classes, become a BCBA and greatly increase my pay. I'm already making a little more than a staring teacher, minus the benefits and summers off.

I have student loans. I've had to work out a payment plan for them.

Does this mean that my school can order the police to arrest me if I miss a payment?

I think this is wrong.

But Happy, I imagine your education experience for your degree is helping you, at least some, with your current position, organizing what you want to do with the kiddos, things like that. I'm thankful to have a job where my degree and minor are relevent. But sometimes companies just want to see that you have a degree, it shows that you can commit to something, even if it specifically isn't relevent to the job itself.

Twice in PN's article it says quite clearly that the raid WAS NOT related in any way to student loans. Also that it was carried out by the Office of the Inspector General, not the Department of Education.

Strange that so few of you seem educated enough to glean those things from the article.

Carried out by Inspector General. The order CAME from the Dept. of Education.

And the officers told Mr Wright that they were there specifically for the matter of the unpaid student loans.

Figure even you could google that, Kwickie.

Thing is Mikey, many of the comments and supposed explainations are coming across as retroactive ass-covering and don't pass the sniff test.

Looks to me (so far, mind you) like this was a push to see what they could get away with, and getting pulled up as short as they did was wholly unexpected, given how much bullshit people have tolerated so far, yanno ?

So I question it still, hell yes.
