Long before Al Queda, there were other terrorists in the world. Didn't think that the Irish/British conflict was still ongoing.

MI5 has warned senior Government figures that an attack by Irish terror groups is “highly likely” on the day of the royal wedding.

The intelligence service believes a bomb attack may occur in Belfast or Londonderry in a bid to disrupt the celebrations.

It is thought resurgent dissident republican groups – which include the Real IRA, the Oglaigh na hEireann and “the IRA” – are not ready to launch an attack on London.

But latest intelligence reports from MI5 to the Home Office suggest an attack could take place elsewhere on Friday.

A source said: “Recent intelligence points to a terror attack in Northern Ireland on the day of the wedding. This is a very real threat and described as being highly likely.

“It is not believed the groups yet have the capability to launch an attack on London, which on Friday would cause chaos.

“However an attack would send out a clear message that there is a gathering and substantial threat from dissident republican groups in Northern Ireland and Ireland.”

On Friday the dissident group styling itself “the IRA” issued a statement claiming responsibility for the murder of PC Ronan Kerr in Omagh this month.

MI5 understands that the group, which has also vowed to embark on a bombing campaign, includes veteran paramilitary figures who have the know-how to carry out such attacks. Dissident groups have recently deployed command-wire explosive devices, van-mounted weaponry, car bombs and vehicle booby traps. Several suspected terrorists are thought to be under surveillance by MI5.

Oh jeez, bombing.

After the British government has dumped on the Irish for centuries, I do feel some sympathy for revolutionaries... But targeting your own people is fairly pointless if you're wanting to represent their best interests. Kinda takes away from the ol' credibility.

As for the wedding, I barely feel more than disdain for all the stuffy tradition and materialism of normal ones, let alone a multiple month royal wedding ORDEAL.

Well you need to remember that Northern Ireland and Ireland are different countries, and that traditionally Catholics and Protestants in that area barely considered themselves as the same species, let alone country men.

Especially considering how the English protestants came over, genocided them and took their lands and began replacing the native Irish. So Irish protestants are generally either seen as descendants or sympathizers.

But still. You call yourself Irish, you speak the accent, then not altogether wise bombing other self-identifying Irish. kinda looks bad to the outside world.

Pffth, sometimes the cruelest thing you can DO to your foes is leave them unmolested.

This is one of those cases - and I am heartily suspicious of said supposed intel cause of how often "convenient" data like that is false.

Best thing to do here... is nothing.

Why? There is no motivation at all that I can see, and MI5 has been running IRA attacks themselves for some time. If I were the royal family I would investigate this post haste to prevent any chance of an inside job. The neocons have made it very clear that they want the royal family gone.

Also, any Irish republican has to know that the Irish republic is going to be in much better shape if Will and Kate have absolute power than if the UK is a democracy, because the royal couple are themselves pretty progressive sorts.

Interesting. So little of the Northern Ireland stuff makes the news in the US anymore. And when I listen to RTE online (the Republic's public radio) IRA stuff is rarely mentioned in current events news. I doubt anything will happen tomorrow. But I'd think that, northern Ireland or not, security would be really strong for the event and all its surroundings.

Byte, you're absolutely right, this isn't a religeous conflict at all at its roots. The Anglo-Irish (descendents of British colonists) happen to identify as Protestant and the people descending from those that were cruelly treated by them happen to be Catholic, that's what the real problem is. I hate you Cromwell.

I personally am a Nationalist, I'd love to see the whole of the island of Eire reunited as a single nation. But I believe that what the people want is what needs to happen, not what I personally want. So if a majority of people in the north want things to remain as they are then it needs to remain thusly. What I may want isn't the point.

But the last i've known on British politics, the "Royal family" has no power, it's the Parleament that has the power.

At least that's putting the blame squarely where it belongs.

It's possible that Ulster is freer than the old free state at the moment though, it's a matter of the EU and that debt. Ireland is now under the indirect control of Frankfurt, through the Brussels puppets, like the rest of the EU, and the most recent change is a ban on Stem Cell research. There are also things in the works like no blocks on foreign ownership, immigration, economic manipulation allowed, no independent armies, and a one child policy.

Parliament has no power. The power rests in Tony Blair, a modern day Oliver Cromwell himself, he has usurped the throne. Refusing to make himself king, he still rules the British Isles.

I have hope that, perhaps with some help from Cameron, power can be restored for Will and Kate to inherit it.

Nations are ruled by currency, not policy. That's why Ireland is ruled from Frankfort, and the US is ruled from New York, and not DC. The sterling belongs historically to the monarch. In Britain's case, for a while, it's been the Rothschilds, as Royal advisors.

Amazing. I would say you're a bit behind the times, except that I'm pretty sure you're convinced that, even tho' he's no longer PM and Cameron IS, Blair is somehow still running the whole country. Wow.

I certainly HOPE power isn't restored to the monarchy! Monarchies don't have all that great a track record weilding power; I'm quite happy to have it remain a Parliamentarian Monarchy, and I think Britain is, too. The monarchy is important to Britain and I hope it never dies (so we yanks can enjoy it vicariously!), but power back in their hands!?! Yikes!

As to irish terror attack, thank gawd THAT particular conspiracy theory can be laid to rest; it went off without a hitch, and that's nice.

It must be nice where you live. Everything as it is printed in the paper. No one with actual power would ever hide it, would they?

Ever stop and ask yourself who controls the US Dollar? When did that change? How does that effect US policy?

Seriously, what does it matter which politician is in power and what policies are voted for if the central bank is deciding which gets funding?

I'm not of course speculating, this was all news when it happened, not conspiracy theory, it's just that no one understood what it meant. Blair made a number of changes to the GBP transferring power to a new FSA which intentionally reregulated markets allowing issue of the pound through mortgages, control of interest rates, etc. to be transferred away from traditional control and placed under de facto control of the square mile which did what any sensible agency would do

Ah well, QE no longer means what it used to, there's a new queen in the UK: Blair also transferred interest rate power

All of which has led a mortgage debacle and debt like it has here. Cameron has been trying to undo it, but it's not easy:

Yes, it was a bit of a strange post, but DT has often had some especially odd things to say about both the UK and Australia, for that matter, and no amount of evidence will shift him from his rather unique views.
