FBI agents search University of Michigan students' apartment during investigation involving World of Warcraft scheme

Given Blizzards recent security failures, despite their refusal to admit it, I ain't exactly overflowin with sympathy for them, and this amounts to a corporation using law enforcement resources somewhat improperly - this doesn't have shit to do with so-called-fraud, but rather Blizzard lashing out at the various private servers in an effort to intimidate them, and all the more futile cause despite the ass covering they got the wrong folks, the supposed suspects don't even PLAY World of Warcraft, duh.

They'll still seize the computers, of course, since it's realistically impossible to operate a computer for even a single day without accidently committing several felonies.
(for example, someones copyrighted work used without permission as the background of a website you visited, thus in your cache and making you guilty of a several crimes despite having NO awareness of it.)
So they'll find SOMETHING (even if they have to plant it) to justify the bust and dodge legal liability.

Also, one might consider that this is the work of Sarah-the-bimbo-Berchtold, who replaced Andy when he became something between a laughingstock and a lynching waiting to happen after the set-up, entrapment and murder of a local Imam - and she was responsible in part for the set-up, entrapment and harrassment of the Huttaree, a case which fell apart rather quickly once it became clear that the only folk with criminal intent and behavior were the fucking feds and their plant, so it's not like ole Sarah has any credibility here either, since the stuff she was supposed to be investigating (you know, the corruption, the consent decrees, etc..) slipped right past her no matter how broad-daylight-blatant it was.

Your tax dollars at work, people.

Imagine if this had taken place with Aschroft as A.G.

Wow, they are going after gold farmers? What, with all pedophiles and human traffickers running around? Did they run out of terrorists and credit card scammers to catch?

Yes, Frem, I agree this is tantamount to prostituting the FBI to a corporation. Are they going to go after people who violate Facebook's TOS next? Seize the computer of someone who signed up an account for his 1 year old grandson so he can play Farmville?

Ouch. I still play WoW, but when did Blizzard stop being cool and start being a soulless corporate entity? It's been coming on so gradually it's hard to tell.

I ought to look into new pastures. Shame my friend on WoW doesn't have the internet connection for Mabinogi, that one's fun.

I know, I recently learnt about this on a documentary, I was stunned, come on people. I think its absolutely rediculous to gold farm, but what's more rediculous is the people who pay. WOW is supposed to be a fun pretend online, not a corrupt money making scheme relating to China, that's the last thing we need.

No CTS, they're using the EXCUSE of Gold Farmers to go after the private servers, WOW servers people built themselves cause they were sick of Blizzards bullshit, piss-poor security, and blame the customer attitude - some time after they moved to the all-in-one account system, a lot of folk left because of a serious security flaw exposing not only the customers account info, but thanks to the new battle.net set up, their financial info as well.

Blizzard can NOT admit this, they don't dare, so it's blame the customer, and folks get sick of paying good money and handed off to scammers, to which Blizz than offered an "authenticator" based on a pathetic, already cracked, imitation RSA alogarythm, for a fee, of course - profiting at the customers expense, as well as making it possible to sweep the tremendous liability of their screwup under the rug.

Anyhows, folks started running their own private servers, cutting Blizzard out of the loop, and they're really, really pissed about it - mind you if they REALLY cared about the gold farming, this woulda happened years ago, it's all just an excuse.
