Yanno, for a system supposedly devoted to education, it's amazing how the public education system manages to very determinedly never learn a damn thing.

Big Brother at Wyoming schools? Legislature considers filming teachers.

I don't really buy the notion that it's gonna be focused at the teachers either - no more than I bought Lower Merions explainations and excuses, whether intended to be or not, this WILL wind up focused on the students, used maliciously...
And it'll be Robbins vs LMSD all over again.

Hell, we're ALREADY putting together the legal briefs, cause we're that sure it's gonna come down to it, and just as an aside, notice what letter rests next to these voyeurs who are so keen to enter and sponsor such bills ?
As if that were any fuckin surprise...

Here's a crazy idea. You wanna observe/evaluate a teachers performance? Go sit in the fracken class! Read the lesson plans you require they submit in advance! Review students grades in comparison with standardized test scores and their performance in other classes.

All the administrator has to do is get off his/her ass, make a few observations (not just 1), and maybe take a couple of notes. Then they don't have to deal with the ethics, laws, and politics involved with video taping minors.

During my student teaching I was observed three times by my supervising professor. The first time the class dynamic changed, the other two, not so much. The kids knew what was going on, his presence wasn't so distracting.

And if they are concerned about an administrator changing the classroom dynamic, what do they expect will happen when the students know they are on camera?

Agreed, this idea is a new low for stupid, money wasting ... ness. What do they think they'll acomplish, and yeah, you're not supposed to videotape minors without parents' permission, I say all the parents should refuse. Of course, this shouldn't even be talked about, let alone done. In the words of my lil' brother the brilliant philosopher, Path--etic.

Agreed. They want to start assembling that criminal record early, and get kids used to surveillance societ. But they probably also want to catch teachers teaching subversive information.

Remember the push a few years back to have teachers armed in the classroom? I can't imagine a way that *that* could go wrong : evil:

Whoa! I didn't think of that!

Catch the good teachers and drive them out. Of course.

Even stupider...

Kids who skip school are tracked by GPS
http://www.ocregister.com/news/school-288730-students-program.html
Quote:

The GPS devices cost $300-$400 each. Overall, the six-week program costs about $8 per day for each student, or $18,000.

The program is paid for by a state grant. Students who routinely skip school are prime candidates to join gangs, police say.

Because schools lose about $35 per day for each absent student, the program can pay for itself and more if students return to class consistently, Miller said.

And THAT, is what it's REALLY about - follow the money, as usual.

The asshats making the devices get paid, the school gets paid, if the parent gets fined local gov gets paid... and the student loses an essential freedom and gets conditioned to the police state - for the scumbags, that one's pure win.

And when I say essential freedom, I mean the freedom to say NO! - because THAT one is essential, and important, from the very moment of self-realization, no matter whether they've hit "the magic number" or not... by removing the ability to refuse or dissent, society that mainlines them into many kinds of victimhood.

And besides that, you have any *IDEA* how badly someone like me (even when I was that age) could screw with them regarding something like this ?
And that's gonna happen, oh yes indeedy it is...
