"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Short answer? "WE" aren't. Not until YOU get it through your head that there ARE people on "the other side" whom are worthy of your support, your contributions, and your vote.

The ACLU will fight the TSA, the warrantless wiretaps, and just about everything else that's happened since 9/11 to erode civil liberties, but you'll never support a single thing they do, because YOU view them as "libs/progs" and therefore Nazis/Commies, so they must be your enemy.

See, there are some things I'll support Ron Paul on, and I can even see times when I might vote for the guy, but you would NEVER give a modicum of support to someone like Alan Grayson or Russ Feingold or Bernie Sanders, because no matter what they were supporting or opposing, and no matter how much their interests and positions might align with your own, all YOU can see is the "D" beside their name. And for you, that's all it takes to guarantee your partisan opposition.

So don't look for any "stopping" of the TSA anytime soon. Or ever. You still haven't accepted the fact that the entire REASON they've made the pat-down "option" so invasive and humiliating is purely IN ORDER TO HUMILIATE YOU, so you'll know better than to ever do THAT again next time, right? Next time, you'll meekly comply with the RapeScanner, because it's the less-invasive alternative.

And if by some chance there WERE a backlash against the TSA which gained some ground, there would be yet another (probably failed) suicide attack on an airliner to scare the populace into meek compliance yet again.

And you'd do nothing, except blame Obama, of course.

Wulf, there really is a reason many of us were opposed to such bureaucracies being formed in the first place. Actually, there are several. For one, once formed, such a bureau owes it to its people to stay alive and keep running, so it's a virtual promise to keep sucking money out of the federal teat. For another, anything which gives the government more power while taking that power from the people, is also guaranteed a long unhealthy life.

Your threats of terrorism don't make the TSA weaker; they don't bolster your case. Your promises to take up arms only makes their case for them. The only way you get rid of the TSA is to de-fund the program (good luck, since it's in every one of the 50 states, and even your beloved "states' rights" pukes aren't going to walk away from that money and power) or prove its ineffectiveness. Problem is, if you prove it to be ineffectual, they come back to Congress demanding MORE money and power so they can "do it right" next time.

Good luck with all that. Unfortunately, you can't unring a bell. You can only hope to muffle the reverberations a bit. This bell has been rung, and now you've decided you don't like the sound.

It will stop when we give up this nonsense war on terrorism.

Which will be... never.

I doubt we'll ever stop the TSA and will have to be satisfied with searching it thoroughly when it tries to board a plane.

While you stole near all my thunder there, Mikey, that one comment I may take issue with...

Occasionally, you can - especially if you manage to do it in a sneaky way when no one is looking, not only did we shove that ludicrous "assault rifle ban" (which really had crap to do with any of those three words) off the table like an empty beer can while no one was really payin attention, remember also that the Telephone Line Tax of 1898 also got "unrung" while the attention of the public and legislators was elsewhere.

So you just have to wait for the short-term-thinking, ooh-shiny, cat-bastards to be distracted by the next mouse, then sneak up on their toy and steal it out from under them while they ain't payin attention.

Ain't EASY, but it can be done.

Speaking of ooh-shiny, imma get a Fibre-Optic tree, no ornaments for the cats to destroy and damn me if the stupid thing didn't have me so paralytically fascinated that Wendy had to start kickin me when she realized I'd been standing there for ten damn minutes.. just... watching... the shiny... ooohhhh...

Yeah imma get me one.

I'm sure they'll find some OTHER excuse for the inevitable bump in skin cancer sometime in the future, and I'll once again be shouted down for making this connection... *sigh*.
