One of 14 states that allows some form of medical marijuana, Colorado has seen a burst of business activity around the sale and distribution of grass.

Arizona:

By a narrow margin, Arizona voters have given their OK to legalized medical marijuana for people with chronic or debilitating diseases.

The decision makes Arizona the 15th state to approve a medical marijuana law. California was the first in 1996, and 13 other states and Washington, D.C., have followed suit.

Didn't pass here this year, but there's always next time.

I'm eligible and used to get it for my bipolarity. But California got cute and added a $150 tax to obtain an "official okey-dokey", and I can't afford that on top of the price of the dope, so I've done without for over a year. Just means going back to my old dealer when I can save up the dough, which I assume most people will...they should have made the tax cheaper, they just lose revenue this way.

Problem with this is that the cops and feds seem to have the idea that "the law" only applies to us little people...

Case in point, local Sherrif Bouchard didn't like the legalities, didn't like the dispensaries, and so after an entrapment scheme with "fake" cards, went and rounded em all up anyways.

So what DO you do, when the law changes, and the cops/feds decide they don't like that and won't play ball, hmmm ?

FYI: Those "fakes" were printed with the same machine the real ones are, so there's no bloody way in hell anyone other than a forensic expert could tell the damn difference, and most of THEM wouldn't be able to tell...

So how exactly, were the folk at the dispensaries supposed to figure it out ?
Answer: They weren't - it was a fucking setup from the get-go.

CANTTAKESKY

Go Colorado and Arizona. Hopefully, one day, MJ will go the way of alcohol and cigarettes. Legal and taxed to death. (Not that I like taxes, but I'd rather tax it than say, food.)

I do think those who are indigent and with certain medical conditions should be able to get it tax-free. I say certain medical conditions because I'm thinking of cancer patients, as opposed to say someone with "depression." (I don't mean depression, but "depression." Wink, wink.)

I agree, CTTS, about the indigent. And I don't think anyone but those with SEVERE illnesses should get it free. It actually helps my bipolarity, but is bad for some others with bipolarity, like Choey, so for anything but severe pain, glaucoma, etc., we should pay for it ourselves.

CA is doing the "tax but make it legal" thing, but given they only make it "legal" year by year, their idea of tax being that $150, it just means that those of us who can't afford it (the majority) just go back to getting it illegally...the tax structure needs to be more reasonable, whether for medical marijuana or just making it legal for all.
