No offense - and PLEASE don't take this the wrong way - but I could *ALMOST* see you pulling something like that, if for no other reason than to show up the cops for the incompetent lazy-asses that they are, and just to get people laughing at them!

But you'd get away with it.

The modern definition of "socialist" is anyone who's winning an argument against a tea-bagger.

DREAMTROVE

This happens every couple of years. I knew a guy who broke into a cops house to burglarize it.

Some people want to be caught.

By the way, Frem, you need to track down Tuesday's episode of Detroit 1-8-7. It almost seems to be about you, in a weird way.

Check hulu.com - they've got it.

Given a certain antagonism and suspicion between me and them, hearkening back to the murder of Ayana Jones cause of "Showtime Effect" inspired by another TV crew, and the follow up and fallout which helped depose chief Evans when he was most needed, I am ever so suspicious now, Mikey...

Yeah, I'll be watchin that Ep in between rounds, might discuss it later.

ETA: Fuck me.. they didn't even have the goddamn decency to change the NAME, bastards.
*sigh*
Yeah, more to speak of later.

Damn your eyes, Mikey, sometimes you're just a little too smart for your own good.
You're also not half as clever as you think you are.

Lemme guess, you watched this, noted some glaring anomolies and loose ends, then made a few logical deductions and figured if you rang my curiosity bell all subtle like, I might be inclined to fill in the blanks for you, ya prick.

Which, I guess I will, but with one adage - remember what curiosity DOES to cats, old friend.
And that you more or less asked for this.

In a word - Ouch.

Ok yeah, this story is essentially true, in all the respects that matter.

But the devil is, as always, in the details.
So fine, you'll get the WHOLE story, including the shit they glossed over.

Firstoff - there was no dialogue on the 911 call, because the car wasn't just bumped off the road, it was in fact crashed and disabled, Maria dialed 911 and pitched the cellphone to the floor to draw her weapon, but she only got one shot off, probably just reflex, as by then the punk (who's name they did change, a respect they didn't grant Maria) had already started filling her full of holes.

Secondly - they gloss over some of their own nastier conduct, like how they broke the dope dealers fingers to get him to talk, or that the one girls breakdown (which was in fact, entirely real, rather than the implied fakeout shown) was caused by one of them grabbing her by the hair and telling her she was going to fry for murder one, right there in public, and the *reason* they held that little conversation in a public place is cause they knew no one liked them, and they were hoping that someone would come forward with some bullshit story they could use as an excuse to drag them off and really put the squeeze on them, as well as an act of pure malice against them for not "cooperating" (i.e. confessing).
Then there's the beating they inflicted on the punks sister to get HER to talk, on top of the one he dished out, since they could blame all the damage on him - and they DID charge her, AND took her kids away and dumped em into the meat grinder of the foster care system - she herself didn't make it to the end of her sentence due to pre-existing health problems and complications, and she didn't try too hard neither, just kinda gave up, once all her efforts came to naught like that.

Of course, a show like this has to kiss up to the cops, or else there won't be a show - plus the realities of the situation are a little TOO ugly for television.
The real shoveljob comes towards of the end...

Wondering about the Janitor, I guess ?
Especially since the two girls are oh-so-obviously a pair of our bullygirls (Ex-DeeVees who stayed on)- something the cops woulda figured out as soon as they ran background since they were ex-foster care fodder, had no "family" and yet somehow could afford college.

No way they could mention that one on TV, he found "Religion" of the Romney-Sembler-Lichfield stripe, and was a "facilitator" who was gonna help the punk stuff the kid into a "Good Christian Home" (and you KNOW what I mean by that.) until the heat died down, since the punk knew the cops were on him, and as well said Janitor was suspected of involvement in a few campus disappearances as well.

They did haul the girls in, but the one who had a breakdown previously went completely catatonic on them, total meltdown, and she never recovered from it - no one but the cops (who ain't talkin) know the specifics, but she had a lot of bruises and lacerations when they handed her over to MDCH (The psych people) since she apparently "resisted arrest" - the girl was a former closet-kid, and you can imagine her reaction to the idea being shoved into a tiny windowless room, but since the Detroit PD doesn't record interrogations on video/audio like they should, prolly cause of how they conduct them, nobody really knows for sure what happened, sure as shit SHE wasn't talkin.

The other one did hand out a bitch-down to the cops (against policy no less, since they're supposed to demand a lawyer and STFU), only they met a stone wall when they tried to hand it back cause she then did follow policy, and in the end they chose to hang it on the catatonic one and heavily "suggest" she get the hell out of dodge, which she did quite immediately upon her release.

They didn't never catch the punk either, he headed south in a hurry when it started to come apart, and fate caught up to him in the aspect of inattentive driving while fatigued and intoxicated, so whatever justice is gonna come to him ain't ours to deliver no more.

As for the kid, she and most her files disappeared right out of protective custody in broad daylight, from a crowded building, like she was never even there, so rather than admit this they bumped the case over to NCMEC and washed their hands of it completely.

I don't think there was a bad intent here, it's quite a compelling tale about not only how the system does sometimes fail, but the related forces and machinations which go on beneath the fabric of society, outside of the law, and the tough moral questions which go along with that.
Of course, they had to clean up and edit the story to make it palatable/acceptable television, so certain liberties had to be taken, obviously - still I don't see it as a shot at us, far from it in fact, since they paint us in a very sympathetic light and strongly suggest we should be left alone to do what we do, without digging too deep into that aspect of it, although they did find an actor who looked remarkably like Clarissa to play the social worker - Clarissa and Roberta (the ex-nun) were both social workers in fact, but these days they're sippin tea in whatever afterlife they wound up in and likely imploring the powers that be to have a little mercy on the right hand of justice when he finally gets there.
(Justice is properly depicted holding the scales in her left hand, care to guess what's in her right ?)

So on second thought they prolly left Marias real first name in there as a tribute, an honor, rather than insult, and so I will take it as such.
When it comes to a mess like this, nobody is innocent, except for the kids, and they don't remain so because of what we do to them.

Oh, and on a lighter note, in my younger, wilder days I might well HAVE "done something like that", only I woulda left the money, stolen the donuts, and swapped their security cam video with one of those lameass tea party propaganda tapes, to help focus the inevitable ire in a useful (not to mention hilarious) direction.

I mean, it's like getting a pair of tens, you just GOTTA split em and double down on each, on a hand like that!

It cheered me up a little thinking there really MIGHT be some kind of "underground railroad" for some of these kids, which would put them in GOOD hands, instead of just into whatever foster home is available...

And I figured this one would be in your wheelhouse, since that's basically a big part of what you do, who you are...

What I *liked* about the ep was that it showed that you really only need a few people in the right places - a cop who actually cares, a social worker who feels the same, a good family who wants to help, not to just get paid...

All in all, I like the show - it's not The Wire, not by a long shot, and it does always tend to show the cops in the best light, but it shows them wrestling with their decisions, and sometimes making the wrong ones.

And I figured you might appreciate their nod to your cause and your area a bit, if only to acknowledge that somebody really does notice, and you and yours really DO make a difference.

Oh I do, but it kinda concerns me that they knew quite a bit more than I expected they did, but not as much as all that, for while I am sure Ralphie wouldn't mind trying to run me down for brownie points with his puppetmaster Worthy...

The only place he could go for any kind of leads, is the last place on earth him and his hosebeast of a girlfriend are welcome, cause Evans is mightily pissed with him for some pretty obvious and justifiable reasons - although he rather rejected our overtures, mostly cause he wants to retire, but also in part cause he's just way too much a cop to ever be a decent crook.
