"If people thought the Democrats were just going to roll over and play dead in this election, that's not what we're seeing," Michael McDonald, a George Mason University professor who tracks early voting, told the AP. "They've got to be feeling a little bit better with the numbers that they're seeing."

Among the get-out-the-vote strategies being used by both parties is traditional on-the-ground canvassing along with a heavy use of internet tools -- especially Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, the AP said. In Florida, Democrats sent out an email that announced: "Today is Election Day. No, that's not a typo, because every day between now and November 2 is Election Day."

If they hadn't put up so many whacko candidates, the outcome might be more like you righties have been crowing about and Dems might have been less galvanized to vote. As it is, only time will tell, but obviously SOMETHING is getting them to turn out...

Wife and I just went and voted this morning. We voted straight Democratic ticket, unless there was no Democrat running for that post, in which case we voted for the Green Party candidate, and if there wasn't a Green, we went Libertarian.

Not one single Republican got a vote from either of us.

Which, by the way, he resents all to hell, because he would have LIKED to send a message in his own little way.

Given we're not high on Jerry Brown, who we've had before (despite the fact that he did a lot of good for the state), what does this tell you about Whitman??

And Fiorino over Boxer? My gawd, that's incredible. Another one who wouldn't even be considered were it not for the standards (or lack thereof) running rampant in politics right now.

Obama turned out 37,500 to his Boxer rally...32,500 in person and another 5,000 who couldn't be accommodates watching on TV from an overflow area. In other words, an overflow crowd. Here's hoping. I can't see Californians dumping Boxer even in this climate, she's been too good to us.

But then, the rich love Fiorino. The protest I attended here in Marin for her speaking event, all the people who passed us on their way in (it was a closed event, too...just Republicans) were dressed to the nine's...rich Marinites. We always have to fight the rich every election; hopefully this time we'll win as we usually do.

Ha, the electronic advantage works both ways, people - not that most of these supposed contests aren't decided well in advance, they just have to shovel enough shit to make it credible, and even so there's ways to bend the statistics.

And since once the GOP was no longer in control of those electronic loopholes the Dems chose to INSTANTLY terminate any investigation thereof, and the public let that happen, especially Republicans who were quite damn happy when it gave *their* boys an edge, I can't see anyone having a right to whinge about it now.

Actually, YOU seem to be the one thinking that the GOP is going to run everything. Hence all your talk of a "bloodbath" and of the GOP decimating the Democrats. Which, strictly speaking, a "decimation" would be a net loss of 10% of the seats by the Dems, which is hardly a "bloodbath", is it?

I think the Republicans will likely take the House, although with nowhere near a veto-proof majority, which will be moot anyway, since the Democrats will most likely retain control of the Senate.

I left out "independants" because there is no such word. Come back and talk to me about them when you learn how to spell the word, if you think they're so important. Hell, if you believe independence is such an important concept, learn how to spell that, too. After all, you're not going to hear me running around yelling that I'm an "Annarkist", are you?

Definitely a keeper, I have a strong suspicion it will be one to remind him of later. Also an absurd rationalization for why Dems are voting early in such numbers, when the fact is Dems are actually invigorated TO vote, despite the current wisdom that they’re demoralized and won’t bother to vote. What happened to that one, by the way? It seems to have died a quiet death recently...

When you make asinine statements like that to try desperately to rationalize the facts going against your assertions, you really make yourself look ridiculous. It so clearly says “I have no comeback, no reasonable statement to say in refutation, so I’m going to say something so inane and stupid anyway...”

What is absolutely wonderfully ironic is that if the Tea Party hadn't won so many nominations with such whacko candidates, it might well HAVE been the massive rollover you've been predicting. The GOP shot itself in the foot by not realizing how fired up to "make a statement" the Tea Partiers were.

They didn't care if they won, remember; they said it quite clearly. The whole thing is rigged. Personally, I would like no party to ever have a trifecta. That results in very bad policy being passed without every being debated. Now the democrats have a supermajority trifecta. That has to break, and it should. Anyone remember the Bush years? And how much they sucked? Anyone noticing a similar trend in the Obama years? On the other hand, the way it is, Republicans have essentially stopped everything by being the Party of No, so is that any better? You probably think it is; I don't. The purpose of Congress is to legislate to help the country...it doesn't work more often than it DOES, but some things are necessary, and stopping it completely is assinine--we might as well not HAVE a Congress...tho' maybe you're in favor of that too, I dunno...
