New numbers posted today on the Treasury Department website show the National Debt has increased by more than $3 trillion since President Obama took office.

The National Debt stood at $10.626 trillion the day Mr. Obama was inaugurated. The Bureau of Public Debt reported today that the National Debt had hit an all time high of $13.665 trillion.

The Debt increased $4.9 trillion during President Bush's two terms. The Administration has projected the National Debt will soar in Mr. Obama's fourth year in office to nearly $16.5-trillion in 2012. That's more than 100 percent of the value of the nation's economy and $5.9-trillion above what it was his first day on the job.

Mr. Obama frequently lays blame for soaring federal deficits on his predecessor.

"By the time I got into office we already had a $1.3 trillion deficit and we had exploded the national debt," he said last month during one of his backyard chats with Americans.

Just last Friday, the Treasury Department portrayed it as good news when it reported that the federal deficit in the fiscal year that ended September 30th was $1.294 trillion. That's less than the $1.416 trillion deficit accrued in 2009 - the largest federal deficit ever recorded. It was also less than the $1.556 trillion that had been initially projected for 2010.

The soaring deficit and Debt is one of the reasons Mr. Obama is adamantly opposed to extending tax cuts for Americans earning over $250,000 a year.

The ten year cost would total $700-billion and Mr. Obama says it would needlessly add to the deficit and Debt.

"And then we've got to pay interest to China or whoever else is willing to buy our debt," he repeatedly argued in recent weeks.

President Obama and Congress await recommendations on ways to reduce federal deficits from the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform.

The 18-member panel will report December 1st - after the midterm election.

The Commission, chaired by Democrat Erskine Bowles and Republican Alan Simpson, was established by Mr. Obama to provide recommendations on how to "put the budget into primary balance, meaning that the federal government will pay for all of its programmatic obligations."

The federal budget was last in balance from 1998 to 2001.

Or they could stop the corporate welfare of feeding the war machine to build toys that have no logical USE in todays military environment.

Seriously, the days of open field, gotterdammerung, pitched battles went out the door in WWII, and they've been wasteful, idiotic and tactically futile since the goddamned Somme.

I mean, who was the last country we fought in the past decade that even HAD a fuckin air force, or a navy ?

We could cut that spending in HALF with no ill effects, and still have enough to fund every idiotic social development plan Obama could ever want, even the ones that make some kinda sense!

We do, really, seriously, NEED to do something about our crumbling infrastructure, but I would suggest doing it at the state level to reduce corruption, and that's as easy as kickin back a percentage of what the Fed takes, innit now ?

Seriously. Boats are holes surrounded by water into which one pours money. If we put money into fixing our roads it will promote commerce, promoting jobs, employed people will pay taxes, govt gets money. Or maybe education, grow a smarter workforce that will make more money and pay more taxes.

NOOOO!!!11!!!1 BUILD MOAR BOATS AND PLANES!!1!1!!!11

At least when we put all that money into NASA we were doing science. We were learning something.

Wow. Rare common ground, it would seem. A self-proclaimed conservative who believes in cutting military spending, increasing infrastructure spending, AND better education opportunities!

I may faint...

lol, that common ground is not quite as rare as we think I 'spect. I agree with the conservative ideals of less gov't spending, intervention, taxing and the like. I think we could comfortably accomplish all of that while improving our infrastructure without the gorram rampant military spending. Apparently conservative spending does not apply to the military, something I have never understood.

I have nothing but respect for the military, my sis is a marine as are several of my friends. Also, they are at least employing folk. But seriously, does anyone look at that budget in the same way they critique the education or infrastructure spending? I know the money ain't all going in the soldier's pockets.

HappyTrader - also don't forget about the huge amount of cash pissed down a rathole to fund the alphabet goons who are supposed to protect us, but have never once in their entire history managed to do it, yet find endless opportunities to harrass, victimize, and exploit the very populace they're supposed to be protecting, on top of which how the hell can our representatives vote our interests with the sumbitches if no one is ALLOWED TO KNOW about the shit they do - and mostly cause if anyone did, they'd be forbidden to do it, like the FBI and Carnivore/Omnivore, not that it stopped em, and it was illegal as hell and in defiance of THREE SEPERATE Congressional orders regarding it's funding, construction, and use, respectively - the Patriot Act might have retroactively legalized it, but it's the principle of the thing here, they can't seem to ever do jack diddly shit that they are supposed to, and yet have all the time and money in the world to fuck with their so called protectees ?

If not, yanno, WORSE - cause ask where Ramzi Youssef and the rest of KSM's goons in 1993 GOT that fuckin bomb they blew the shit out of the WTC basement with in the first freakin place ?

Not to mention every so-called "terror plot" these days is a bunch of completely incompetent asshats who couldn't have pulled it off on their best day even with an expert holding their little hands, put up to the shit by an agent of one of those alphabet agencies as an excuse to keep up the booga booga and secure funding...

NONE of this is theory, all documented fact, and yet we keep pouring BILLIONS down the shitter to fund folks who cannot, will not, do their job - yet do the exact opposite to the degree where they have to invent MORE agencies just to defend the supposed protectees from the supposed protectors ??

Fuck. That. Noise.

They don't do the job - THEY DON'T GET PAID.
Sounds like a plan to me, how bout you ?

Far as it goes, they were SO ineffective, even back in the 1980's, that JCOS had to roll up their own intel on the side just to have any goddamn clue, none of whom ever got half the money or credit they deserved, especially the HUMINT folk who put their ass on the line for solid, real intel that was mostly ignored and dismissed when it became politically expedient to believe or shill something else.

So fuck em all, start taking a chainsaw to their budget, I say.

"Truth overcomes all bonds!"

The fact is that those who lend seek power over those who borrow, and so they encourage the borrowers to make bad decisions so that they will borrow more. It's the same nonsense they're pulling on people who buy cars, houses, cell phones, or anyone carrying a credit card. And congress is filled with morons. They're picked for their stupidity. TPTB don't want smart servants in govt, they want idiots in govt. surrounded by smart advisors giving them bad advice.

Well, I never did, but then, I'm not one to ascribe religious power to politicians. That's pretty much the sole province of the neocons and wingnuts.

But thanks for proving yet again that you are incapable of being anything but a moronic and vile piece of offal.

And worth noting that you couldn't actually dispute what I said, and had to fall back on calling names. Because, as always, you are devoid of any actual thought or reasoning. You don't even make it difficult to laugh at your sorry ass.

The debt increased by over $4 trillion just with the Bush tax cuts.

Not one Tea Party member has addressed that.
