The chief exorcist in the Vatican, a Father Gabriele Amorth, was recently quoted (The Telegraph, Mar 11, 2010 and Times Online, March 11, 2010) as exclaiming, "The Devil is in the Vatican."

Sex abuse scandals in the Roman Catholic Church are proof of this deviltry, said Father Amorth, 85, who has been the Vatican’s chief exorcist for over 35 years. According to Amorth, satanic possession has taken place even inside the confines of the Vatican, aided and abetted by "cardinals who do not believe in Jesus and bishops who are linked to the Demon."

He added: "When one speaks of ‘the smoke of Satan’ (a phrase coined by Pope Paul VI in 1972 in the holy rooms), it is all true—including these latest stories of violence and pedophilia."

"Here one sees the rot," said the exorcist. What an amazing confession, made by a man who is said to have dealt with over 70,000 cases of possession.

ETA: And yet, while they can't be bothered to clean house of their own dirty laundry, heaven help you if you are female and show one once of self respect, kindness, or progressivism.

Roberta may be gone on to her final reward, and she cast aside her habit years before that, but the AD Sisters are "good people" even if I disagree with them theologically, and have managed many times to overcome our mutual antagonism rooted in that disagreement to fight side by side for youth rights, and human rights.

And yet the damned (pun oh so fully intended) Vatican thinks it's worth the time to stage a full investigation of them behaving like actual human beings, when their priests behaving like monsters isn't worth a shrug ?

My opinion, for what it's worth, is that Rat-boy oughta get what Formosus got, starting NOW.

And yeah, that's not exactly an unbiased opinion, but still, it'd be gratifying to see someone, ANYONE, called to heel for the abuses done by that belief system, including but not limited to mistreatment of children, which you may recall at one time was thrown back in the faces of people like me as mere conspiracy theory and urban legend.. FOR OVER A DECADE.

It shouldn't take several more to have justice done, and I am pretty sure their divinity of choice - if he's anything like they pretend (or I suspect, being Maltheist) - is gonna have some unpleasant surprises for em when they pass through the veil.

But yanno, I'd like to get a bite in first, just sayin.

Oh, and since I mentioned Roberta, and she'd have found it hilarious, the original incident that sparked her crisis of faith was being left to swing in the breeze by members of her own faith when she poked her nose into some human trafficking in Ohio, only to have assistance come from the most unlikely of sources - which ended up with her holding my little popgun while I broke open some doors and escorted from the building a half dozen damn fools who fell for the promise of a new life, only to get something rather different than they expected.

Now there's an image for you, a nun with my little colt, back to back with a sorcerer holding a tire iron.

My comment to it was "put your faith in your lord, but put sam colt in your hand, lady!"

She took me up on it too, applied for CCW that Monday, although her trouble reconciling that with the rest of her faith led to her leaving it officially, but never in spirit - hell of a lady, she was.

She'd have found that downright hi-larious, she would.

Report details 'staggering' church sex abuse in Maryland

More than 150 Catholic priests and others associated with the Archdiocese of Baltimore sexually abused over 600 children and often escaped accountability, according to a long-awaited state report released Wednesday that revealed the scope of abuse spanning 80 years and accused church leaders of decades of coverups.

The report paints a damning picture of the archdiocese, which is the oldest Roman Catholic diocese in the country and spans much of Maryland. Some parishes, schools and congregations had more than one abuser at the same time — including St. Mark Parish in Catonsville, which had 11 abusers living and working there between 1964 and 2004. One deacon admitted to molesting over 100 children. Another priest was allowed to feign hepatitis treatment and make other excuses to avoid facing abuse allegations.

The Maryland Attorney General’s Office released the findings of their yearslong investigation during Holy Week — considered the most sacred time of year in Christianity ahead of Easter Sunday — and said the number of victims is likely far higher. The report was redacted to protect confidential grand jury materials, meaning the identities of some accused clergy were removed.

“The staggering pervasiveness of the abuse itself underscores the culpability of the Church hierarchy,” the report said. “The sheer number of abusers and victims, the depravity of the abusers’ conduct, and the frequency with which known abusers were given the opportunity to continue preying upon children are astonishing.”
